    Putin Warns US About Socialism

Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin has said the US should take a lesson from the pages of Russian history and not exercise “excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state’s omnipotence”.

“In the 20th century, the Soviet Union made the state’s role absolute,” Putin said during a speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “In the long run, this made the Soviet economy totally uncompetitive. This lesson cost us dearly. I am sure nobody wants to see it repeated.”

Sounding more like Barry Goldwater than the former head of the KGB, Putin said, “Nor should we turn a blind eye to the fact that the spirit of free enterprise, including the principle of personal responsibility of businesspeople, investors, and shareholders for their decisions, is being eroded in the last few months. There is no reason to believe that we can achieve better results by shifting responsibility onto the state.”

Putin also cautioned the US against using military Keynesianism to lift its economy out of recession, saying, “in the longer run, militarization won’t solve the problem but will rather quell it temporarily. What it will do is squeeze huge financial and other resources from the economy instead of finding better and wiser uses for them.” Putin’s comments come in sharp contrast to Russia’s own military buildup and expansion.

Putin also echoed the words of conservative maverick Ron Paul when he said, “we must assess the real situation and write off all hopeless debts and ‘bad’ assets. True, this will be an extremely painful and unpleasant process. Far from everyone can accept such measures, fearing for their capitalization, bonuses, or reputation. However, we would ‘conserve’ and prolong the crisis, unless we clean up our balance sheets.”

“The time for enlightenment has come. We must calmly, and without gloating, assess the root causes of this situation and try to peek into the future.”

If you're getting warned by a former communist, maybe it's time to reflect on the matter.

As Mike Malloy has often mentioned, everyone from Genghis Khan and Alexander the Great to the Brits and the Soviets have ultimately failed in their invasions of Afghanistan, and it's ridiculous to believe the US could do any better than them.

So I guess Putin thinks that fascism goes better with capitalism than socialism?

For nearly a decade, I worked for a German family in the auto parts industry. In that time I had ample opportunity to learn about the failure of socialized medical care. The thrust was basically "Yeah, it's free...and you get what you pay for...". Without the backing of a free enterprise system in place, the various "professionals" (this word was usually said in mocking and derisive terms) in the field rarely aspired to better themselves, let alone provide a decently applied work ethic toward quality. To hear these folks tell it, the idea of quality health care involved essentially going outside the border to other countries, as the state provided "care" was a gamble at best, a horror movie at worst. And let's face it, if your options include going to the U.K. to get your teeth fixed, you pretty much know that you are fucked.

I wonder if the planets need to be in some particular order for myself and Putin to make a bit of sense, and to comprehensively recognize a bigger picture than many of our so called representatives do, and how our economy is hanging by a thread...

I just noticed I posted that in one sentence...please don't grade my paper...

                But back to the topic:

Maybe the only thing Putin is doing here is reading his lines from the script right on cue...

why the fuck would he bother to ponder our economic situation? and then comment on it in a public forum? not only comment, but offer advice? is this a friendly gesture? very odd on putin's part.

If the US goes down, Pooty Poot is going to be staring down China all by himself. And they can actually invade Russia by land or air, if they wanted to.

Old Vlad is ex KGB. He's not stupid.

Arguable but granted. Our recent love for the former soviet socialist states makes him an enemy.....right? I'm sure he is not seething with hatred but this is the kind of effort I would extend to a family member or a best friend.....not a potential enemy. The real question is why does he wish to appear friendly to the US? I smell a can of worms!

The US and Russia were on pretty good terms in the 1990's. Even Chimp & Putin started out that way. Monkeyboy looked into Pooty's eyes and "saw his soul". Since he was KGB, it must have looked a lot like Poppy Bush's CIA soul. Hell, even after the Reichstag II attacks on 9-11-01, Putin offered Chimp the use of Russian bases and airspace to launch an attack on Afghanistan, if it was determined that Bin Laden was hiding out there and/or there were Al Qaeda camps in the area.

Chimp fucked up that relationship - as he did our relationships with most other countries - when he invaded Iraq, based on lies. And Putin knew they were lies, as did the leaders of any other country with any sort of intelligence gathering abilities.

So now Vladdie's looking to patch things up with the US now that Half assed Monkey Boy is history. Can't blame him for that.

Well, you're both authoritarian minded bigots, so we're not so far off, are we?

And since when the fuck is the Russian republic ever considered a model of "capitalism?" Yeah, extreme poverty punctuated by a tiny oligarch class owning everything leading to massive crime, instability, and a return to virtual dictatorship. Count me in!

Putin would be nothing if he weren't flush with his oil and gas money and ability to extort Europe by interrupting supplies of it...
