Ideas?

Personally, I would love to see Dances With Wolves II

The Trial of Lt. Dunbar on desertion charges, and the killing of the Union Soldiers.

Even after watching the 4 hour Director's Cut, I was ready for more.

Sweet, Tap-Dancing Jesus Christ...NO! http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/smileys/free-ashamed-smileys-721.gif (http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/)

The movie industry can't even execute a decent version of The Wild, Wild West without fucking it up beyond reasonable belief, yet you'd like to see The Warriors remade? It would probably be a comedy, or would feature Mark Walhberg and a crew of too-old actors with perfect teeth. The baseball bat wielding gang would be steroid abusers, and somehow cell-phones would come into play, as well. The film would naturally include a soundtrack of mind-numbingly awful music from rap stars of dubious talent, the Black Eyed Peas, Nickleback and of course the Smashing Pumpkins. :puking-smiley:

Exactly.

I hate remakes, all of them.

And I certainly don't want them in my thread.

But had I said anything, junior would have complained that I was attacking him again.

30 Upcoming Movie Sequels You Didn't Know About

http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/1341...w_about.htm l

Simon Brew

We've spent days of our lives scouring the world for news of sequels that you may not have heard of. And here are 30 films in various states of production...

The domination of sequels in the big summer and winter schedules continues, and if the following - in particular order - is anything to go by, it's going to carry on for many years to come...

The Brazilian Job: the follow up to Paramount’s US remake of The Italian Job is still on the cards, and it’s got a 2009 release date marked. Jason Statham, Mos Def, Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron are attached, as is director F Gary Gray.

I, Robot 2: All we know on this one is that it’s in the scripting stages still, with a potential 2010 release date planned in. No news on Mr Smith's involvement.

I Am Legend 2: Warner’s huge Christmas 2007 hit could also have a follow up, although it’d be interesting to see if Will Smith returned to it. A 2010 release date is also being mooted for this one.

Beverly Hills Cop 4: If Die Hard can still do it at the box office, why can’t Axel Foley? Er, because the third BHC movie was crap, and a flop. Still, it’s not stopped development work going ahead on number four. No further news than that, though.

National Treasure 3: Not a huge surprise, but as the Nic Cage Indiana Jones knock off franchise has proved to be quite a juggernaut, you’ll only have to wait until 2011 for the third film in the series.

Cars 2: We spotted this on AintItCool – is Pixar really looking to make a sequel to its weakest film? Apparently so…

Toy Story 3: This one, after lots of umming and ahhing, appears to be a goer. It won’t, as was speculated, be a straight-to-DVD affair, and Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are both expected back on voicing duties. It’ll be out in 2010.

Jeepers Creepers 3: MGM is running the rule over a potential third instalment in the horror franchise, with director Victor Salva still attached. Hmmm.

Shrek 5: The fourth film was a no-brainer after the tepid third outing made so much cash. But a fifth instalment has also been confirmed. No wonder Shrek is the same colour as an American dollar…

Night at the Museum 2: Ben Stiller is returning for his most commercially successful role outside of the Meet the Parents franchise. We can wait. No news on the proposed Meet The Little Focker, though.

Crank 2: High Voltage: This is more like it. Crank is a guilty pleasure right up there with Snakes on a Plane, and it’s coming back for more. Shooting starts next month, for a 2009 release, and Jason Statham returns as Chev Chelios. As he should.

Transporter 3: Statham again. He’s making this too, and it’s in pre-production. Presumably, he’ll go from Crank 2 straight onto this.

Super Troopers 2: A sequel nobody asked for! Hurray! Expect it in 2010, as it’s in the early writing stages still, we believe.

Silent Hill 2: Sony is looking at a follow up to the crap-but-popular video game adaptation. 2010 is the current slated release date.

The Descent 2: We understand that Neil Marshall won’t be directed this one, which has the, er, working title of The De2cent. He’s attached as Executive Producer, with Jon Harris stepping behind the camera (he edited the first film, as well as the more recent Stardust).

The Grudge 3: Yup, it’s in pre-production now, for release next year. That’ll likely be the scariest thing about it.

Ice Age 3: 1st July 2009. That’s the date you’ll need to avoid if you want to miss the next Ice Age movie. Hopefully it’ll be better than the second one…

Ghost Rider 2: A surprise hit last year, Marvel is developing a follow-up to the Nic Cage comic book flick, and tentatively has 2009 marked for release. No director is thus far attached.

The Untouchables: Capone Rising: A prequel to Brian De Palma’s cracking prohibition thriller of, er, twenty years ago. De Palma is back behind the camera, and the project is in the pre-production stages now.

The Thomas Crown Affair 2: Weird, this. It’s taken them ages to do a sequel, and then they draft in Paul Verhoeven to direct a follow-up to someone else’s film. Pierce Brosnan returns, and filming starts shortly.

The People Under The Stairs 2: No sign of any Wes Craven involvement, though, and release may even be this year. Hmmm. We'd wager DVD will be its home.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor: Er, that’s what they’ve called The Mummy 3, which is out on 1st August. Brendan Fraser and Jet Li star.

Punisher: War Zone: Ray Stevenson becomes the third person to play The Punisher on screen. You’ll be able to find out how he did on 12th September this year.

Starship Troopers 3: Marauder: Casper Van Diem is back, but it’s still going straight to DVD, as the piss-awful second film did. It’s due out later this year.

Pink Panther 2: Oh dear. And I’m a Steve Martin fan. It’s out on 13th February 2009.

Ace Ventura 3: No Jim Carrey though, and no chance of it seeing the inside of a cinema. Head to Blockbuster later in the year if you want to catch it.

War of the Worlds 2: The Next Wave: Another straight to DVD sequel, but this one’s of note because it’s directed by Soul Man/Hitcher star C Thomas Howell. Blimey.

Jurassic Park 4: It’s taken them ages to sort this out, but the latest is that Laura Dern is still attached, and that it’ll be released in 2009. Don’t hold your breath though, as shooting would need to start really very soon...

Scary Movie 5/Saw 5: You could have guessed at these if you didn’t know about them already. Both should see the light before the end of the year. Sadly.

38 Planned Movie Remakes You Didn't Know About

http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/1521...ign=newsletter

The Thing? Fame? Footloose? Akira? Just some of the names being raided once more by a Hollywood system that's fast running out of ideas...

We’ve already pointed out recently 30 sequels that were in the works in the factories of Hollywood – but how about remakes? Cast your eyes over this little lot, and prepare to be depressed…

The Shadow
Presumably this a reboot of the hilarious-but-iffy Alec Baldwin non-franchise of the mid-90s. Sam Raimi is producing, and the project is at the screenplay stage right now. Expect a release no sooner than 2010.

Battle Royale
The brilliant, brilliant, brilliant Asian movie is getting a Western remake. Producer Neal H Moritz is currently attached to the project, which has been optioned but not yet got much further. It didn’t help that New Line was linked with funding the film, and the same New Line got swallowed up by Warner Bros totally the other week.

Starfighter
A planned remake of the 1984 movie The Last Starfighter, which remains popular today. Nick Castle is currently attached to direct the project (he did the original as well, although his biggest hit as director is the 1993 kids’ movie Dennis). We fear this one may get lost in development hell. Hope not.

Continued

The Evil Dead
Sam Raimi is attached to the remake of one of his most loved films, with both he and Bruce Campbell on producing duties. Set for release at some point next year, they’ll have to get their skates on, as there’s no sign of cameras being turned on just yet.

Knight Rider
Forget the recent TV rebooting, the Weinstein Company has the option to produce a feature film, and the original creator of Knight Rider – Glen A Larson – is hard at work on the screenplay. Expect a release around 2010/11. If the new TV version doesn’t kill the franchise stone dead, of course…

Conan The Barbarian
The script is still being written for the remake of one of Arnie’s best-ever roles. It’s a fair bet that Arnie won’t be returning, but Sahara scribes Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer are beavering away on the screenplay. Production may yet start this year, apparently.

Logan’s Run
Uber-producer Joel Silver is pushing this long-mooted remake, which has director Joseph Kosinski attached (whose name is also being linked with the new Tron film). Logan’s Run is believed to be first in line, though, and a 2010 release is being mooted.

Death Wish
Sylvester Stallone is set to step into the role made famous by Charles Bronson in a remake of Michael Winner’s violent original. Stallone is set to write, produce and star, and production is planned to start at some point this year.

The Taking Of Pelham 123
Tony Scott is directing, and Denzel Washington and John Travolta are starring in a remake of the brilliant 1974 Walter Matthau original. David Koepp has written the screenplay, and the film will be released in the Autumn of 2009.

Fahrenheit 451
Frank Darabont – he of Shawshank Redemption and The Mist fame – has been linked with a fresh take on the Ray Bradbury book for a while. It seems he’s getting closer to honing a script too for him to direct, but it’s still not ready, so no idea of release date. Tom Hanks had been mooted to star.

Friday The 13th
Marcus Nispel – director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake – has inked his name on the dotted to helm the remake of the original Friday The 13th movie. It’s a great solution: run out of sequels, start at the beginning! It’s in pre-production now for a 2009 release.

Last House On The Left
A remake of the brutal 70s Wes Craven movie, this time it’s relative-newcomer Dennis Illiadis in the director’s chair. The cast is rumoured to feature Liv Tyler, along with Monica Potter, Garret Dillahunt and Tony Goldwyn. It’s due to start filming next month,

Hellraiser
They’ve given up making sequels, so now they’re remaking the 80s original. No sign of Doug Bradley as Pinhead, but Clive Barker has been involved with the script, and Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury will be making their English language directorial debuts with the project.

Tron
Will it be a sequel? Will it be a remake? Will they call it a ‘reimagining’? All these questions and more are set to be answered, as three decades on, Tron will be heading back to the big screen in 2010.

Clash of the Titans
The 1981 film is being remade, and Stephen Norrington has – after not being seen behind a camera since League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen – agreed to direct. He did the original Blade, too. Lawrence Kasdan has been penning the script, and the film is in pre-production for a 2010 release.

Akira
A live action version of the iconic anime film of the same name, the adaptation is believe to be being handled in two parts, and Leonardo DiCaprio has been linked with the project. It’s still at the scripting stage, although director Ruairi Robinson is attached to helm.

The Birds
How depressing. Hitchcock’s awesome thriller is getting the remake treatment, with Martin ‘Casino Royale’ Campbell rumoured to be directing, and Naomi Watts linked with the project too. It has a release date of July 2009.

Frankenweenie
Tim Burton’s terrific early short film is being brought to the big screen by… Tim Burton! There’s logic there, somewhere. December 2009 is the targeted release time.

A Nightmare On Elm Street
Hurray! That ‘reimagining’ word is being used to describe the now-in-the-pre-production stages new Elm Street movie. Michael Bay produces, but doesn’t direct. Thank goodness.

Westworld
The terrific forerunner to Jurassic Park – also penned by Michael Crichton – Westworld has long been mooted for a remake. Billy Ray, who directed Breach and Shattered Glass, is the latest writer to take a stab at the theme-park-attraction-goes-out-of-control concept.

The Warriors
Director Tony Scott – once he’s finished on The Taking Of Pelham 123 - remains attached to the proposed remake of Walter Hill’s 1979 classic tale of rival gangs on a mission that takes them across a dangerous city. It’s still in the writing stages, and may be held up in development hell for some time yet.

Piranha
Alexandra Aja, who enjoyed success with his remake of The Hills Have Eyes, is directing a potentially 3D version of Joe Dante’s terrific original. A 2009 release date has been eyed up.

Escape From New York
Another John Carpenter classic is getting remade, and Terminator 3 director Jonathan Mostow – with Ken Nolan - is taking a stab at the script. No word if he’s going to direct, but a 2009 release is mooted.

Meatballs
Another 80s comedy getting a remake, Meatballs has – oh dear – Big Momma’s House 2 (not even the original!) director John Whitesell attached to it. And no sign of Bill Murray, either. Never a good thing.

Howard Stern’s Porkys
A remake of Bob Clark’s bawdy early 80s comedy, this is still in the planning stages with US shock-jock lending his name to the project and the title. It’s planned to have it ready for 2009. Expect an array of shitty sequels if it hits.

The Lives Of Others
The stunning German film is getting an American remake, with Anthony Minghella attached to produce, but not direct. It’s only been optioned so far, so 2010 would be the earliest you see it. Our advice? See the original. It’s genuinely stunning.

Short Circuit
Number Five is, er, still alive, with original screenwriters coming back for the reboot of the 80s original. No news of a finished script, director or shooting date, though.

Straw Dogs
Rod Lurie – the man who directed The Contender – is scripting and directing the remake of the Dustin Hoffman-starring original. It’s only been optioned thus far, and so the planned 2009 release date may be optimistic.

1984
Tim Robbins is apparently hunting for the money for a new big screen adaptation of George Orwell’s classic and never-more-relevant novel. He’s not having much luck though, we’re led to believe.

Red Sonja
Roy Thomas (Conan The Destroyer) has been drafted in to write a screenplay for a new Red Sonja film, although don’t expect Arnie to be in it. Nor should you expect it soon.

The Dirty Dozen
Alias veteran Josh Applebaum has the unenviable task of coming up with a suitable script for the remake of the original classic. 2010 is the earliest it’ll be released.

Footloose
Surely not? The 80s musical could be coming back to life if director Kenny Ortega has anything to do with it. That said, given he directed High School Musical and its spin-offs, he’d probably be allowed to do anything he wanted in Hollywood right now. Sigh. Footloose has thus far been optioned, and may go before the camera this year.

Dune
Frank Herbert’s source material is set to be mined again, for a new movie due out in 2010. Peter Berg, who directed the brilliant Friday Night Lights movie, is waving the megaphone, but further details are still sketchy.

The Thing
A remake of the 1982 classic, that’s got Battlestar Galactica producer Ronald D Moore attached to it. That said, it’s being described as a companion rather than a remake. Hmmmm. No word on it going before the cameras yet.

Near Dark
Kathryn Bigelow’s 1987 vampire flick enters the remake chamber, with music video director Samuel Bayer making his debut in the directors’ chair on the film. Cast has yet to be announced, but it appears that Bigelow has had a hand in the screenplay.

The Swarm
This is more like it! Lots of bees! Frank Schaetzing’s book is plundered again for the big screen, with Silence Of The Lambs adapter Ted Tally on scripting duties. No director or cast yet, though.

Fame
Alan Parker’s 1980 musical is being remade by MGM, who originally had a Christmas 2008 release date inked in. Andy Finkman – who directed The Game Plan and She’s The Man – is down to direct, though, and the project will no doubt move forward shortly.

The Witches
Roald Dahl’s book has already been filmed with Anjelica Huston in the leading role, but Guillermo Del Toro is toying with the idea of having a stab himself. No start date has been announced for the project, though.

So many I can't keep up, but a "Mad Max" sequel might be coming up. Originally, Mel Gibson was going to reprise the role. But the 2003 Gulf War made things unsafe in the African shooting location and then Mel's victimization of a Jewish conspiracy finished is off...

Am just tired of remakes. Only a handful actually equalled or bettered the originals.

The new Road Warrior is either going to be a sequel or a prequel...

Dunno about Blade Runner...

See, the cool part about endings to such movies as Blade Runner, or Carpenter's The Thing remake is that the endings weren't resolved in a traditional way, so the viewer is left to draw their own conclusions.

Escape From New York shouldn't be remade...or even re-sequelized...Escape From LA was okay, but if Carpenter himself wasn't able to quite equal his own original, I have little hope anyone else could.

OK - "Mad Max: Fury Road" is definitely interesting...although I'd much rather see Mel Gibson doing it than the last rumored recast, which was Paul Walker in the role...

I don't give a fuck who says what - "Silent Hill" was one of the best video game to movie adaptations that has ever been made. Some of the core ideas were changed, but when it comes to staying true to the thematic elements of the game, it did - creepy, disgusting and no happy ending - in other words, totally Silent Hill. VERY much want a sequel to that.

How about Scott Baio and Willie Ames in "Zapped 3"? :tongue0011:

Hugh Jackson will be the next Max apparently...

I hadn't heard about that...Paul Walker was the last name I'd heard George Miller talking about, but I haven't been following very much...I have to say, though, I honestly think a new, GOOD Mad Max movie would do a lot to help Mel Gibson breathe some life back into his career - even if the movie's a disaster, having a big box office would help some and revisiting established franchises can be done effectively; Sly's done a very good job with the last Rocky and Rambo movies, I thought.

Hugh Jackman would be...I don't know, it's just hard to visualize ANYBODY other than Mel Gibson playing Mad Max, at least for me...

Silverado always cried out for a sequel. The only problem is that all of the original cast are now way too old to reprise their roles! On second thought, age never deterred Arnold, Sly, and Harrison Ford...

Not sequels, but I wish Hollywood turned out a few more quality westerns. The last decent ones were The Quick & The Dead, Tombstone, and Unforgiven.

I'll second that.
Some good war movies that didn't focus on how realistic you
can make the deaths look would be nice.
More story than gory.

Were they to ever revisit that franchise, I can almost fucking guarantee it'll be when Miley Cyrus is in her 20's, taking the Heather Thomas role - Miley will have whored herself out to no end by that point and probably won't have any problem flashing her tits at whatever has a lens...Zac Efron will probably take over Scott Baio's role...music by the Jonas Brothers...

Jeez...well, could Heather Thomas STILL appear topless regardless?

I'd much rather see that than Miley Cyrus and her ittie-bittie-trailer trash titties.

I heard Scorsese/De Niro were working on a "Taxi Driver" sequel.

I`m 50/50 on that one.

The original is one of my favourites and I would like it left alone.

On the other hand, you`d think those two would only do it if they had strong stuff to work wtih.

Can't beleive they made a sequel to Crank.
That fucker was obviously dead .
How about Platoon 2 .
Barnes wasn't dead and hid out until he could escape.
Now he's stalking Charlie Sheens character after he went home.
But he's saved by Elias who wasn't dead either.

I realize that most of the suggestions in this thread were made with tongue firmly in cheek....but, it looks like there is a REAL sequel coming in the "Ghostbusters" franchise.

20 years after we left the boys in the tan jumpsuits, it looks like they've decided to fire up the Ecto-1 and the proton packs one more time....

In September 2008, Columbia Pictures announced that, almost two decades after the last film came out, a new “Ghostbusters” movie is finally in the works. Recently, MTV spoke to Harold Ramis (otherwise known as Dr. Egon Spengler) about the upcoming film and got some exciting news. Most notably, Ramis dished that although the original actors (Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray) will appear in the updated version of the film, their roles will be slightly different.

“We're going to be the sage mentors. There are going to be young Ghostbusters." Ramis said.

With the still unconfirmed news that Judd Apatow (“Knocked Up,” “The 40 year Old Virgin”) has signed on as producer, there’s been a great deal of speculation over the past few months as to whether the "Apatow Pack" (Paul Rudd, Seth Rogan, and Steve Carell) will be cast as the famous ghost hunters and questions about who will fill the director’s chair.

According to MTV, neither Ramis nor original director Ivan Reitman are especially keen to take on the directorial role.

"I'm sure we're all hoping someone else will do it," Ramis told MTV. "It's a lot of work!"

The new screenplay will be penned by writer/producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who are behind “The Office” and the new Ramis -- directed comedy “The Year One” starring Jack Black and Michael Cera.

As for the one "Ghostbuster" who seems to be conspicuously absent from the line-up, Ramis tells MTV not to worry, that Bill Murray is definitely “in.”

"I haven't talked to him about it," Ramis said. "I want to talk to him about it eventually. I think we just need a script, because he's the thorniest of the group."

Ugh...."sage mentors?" This has "epic flop" written all over it if it's not handled exactly right.

Can anybody say "Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Crystal Skull?"

Just cross the streams and blow this up before everybody gets embarrassed....

THE THING is the top of the list for me....though they missed the boat by about 25+ years....

The Thing was my first choice too. Great flick!

Sure it's been many years, but two men survived the ordeal and thew two actors who played them are still alive today.

Could they have survived somehow? The end left me wanting more...

Childs..."How will we make it?"

Snake Plissken..."Maybe we shouldn't."

Childs..."If you're worried about me..."

Snake Plissken..."If we got any surprises for each other I don't think we're in much shape to do anything about it."

Childs..."Well, what do we do?"

Snake Plissken..."Why don't we just wait here for a little while. See what happens."

Well, WTF HAPPENED?!

Dune & Tron? Both awesome movies. If they do remake them I hope they don't fuck it up, but $5 says they do. I have also heard rumors of a Ghostbusters. Might be ok if it's funny.

But my choice would be seeing a 48 Hours sequel. I want to see Eddie Murphy be funny for a change.

Do you mean a third movie? They did a sequel called another 48 hours.
