What a great singer. He upstages Stevie Wonder on this cover.

You tell em ELVIS !

One thing that I absolutely cannot understand is George Michael's
sexual preference for sucking off homeless old wino's who havent
been bathed in years, in dirty old public toilets ????

WTF ???

I mean he is worth millions, owns mansions (even owns John Lennons "Imagine" Piano)
Why wouldnt he hire his fags from some expensive fag service ??

I had to laugh at the last old bum he sucked off.
The old bum said something to the effect of
"Well Im not actually gay, but I knew he was famous" :lmao:

Pedo discussions, Duran Duran, George Michael ??
Is there a pattern emerging here ???

Well, it's like Nick says. The problem isn't George's lack of talent. He's a great singer, but the material is mostly shit. His performance with Queen was great, because it was a great song that wasn't Wham top 40 shit written for George Michael.

Now that said, the rumors that circulated soon after that, that George would do a full tour with Queen, I knew that would never happen. Because he could pull off "Somebody to Love", but there ain't no way in Gay Hell he could have done "Stone Cold Crazy" or "Tie Your Mother Down".

Andy Taylor

I enjoyed that hard to find live EP Michael put out in the early nineties. It included the performances from the Queen show, along with a great version of The Temptations' "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone". Yet I would not call myself a devoted fan of the guy.

Tune in next week for 'The Pet Shop Boys - Unappreciated in their own time....'

:D

I think that most people who've posted agree that George has an outstanding voice, and that his performance with Queen was remarkable.

I would add that 'Older' was a very fine record, and one on which he showed a little soul and feeling. I also respect the fact that for the last 10 years he's largely shunned the 'safe' option of churning out ballads for housewives to buy, instead making the 'funkier' dancey music he wanted to make (essentially killing his career in the states as a result), but those records were in desperate need of songs. As for his early career material, he's hardly an outstanding song writer is he?

As someone who worked in a record shop for 8 years, I can tell you that GM is responisble for a LOT of headaches....

Oh that's right! I forgot you're always right about everything, even things like personal taste. Write a book, so we'll all know how to act, moron.

Real smart idea or an attention whore's need for attention, posting negative shit about the person the site was named for and what brought us all here in the first place.

I know, I know.....you'll have your little witty asides but the fact remains, no matter how much you may disagree and hate the fact......that most of us here have similar tastes in music and love CVH. What pisses you off is that we personally don't like the music you do and that gets under your skin. Why else would you keep doing the things you're doing here, if it wasn't a need for attention or a need to make everyone bend to your point of view.

Seriously, I believe everyone has freewill and if I want freedom to believe anything that I want, I have to extend that to people who have opposing views but........what I don't understand is why you even post here. The majority of us don't fit in with your taste in music or your world view. Why are you even here?

Andy Taylor
04-15-2009, 06:37 PM
Perhaps not the majority. But there's a few. And there's never a chance for discussion because the threads are derailed by the majority.

This is a general music discussion. It would be easy enough to stay out of it if one doesn't like it. So who's trolling here?

Not an issue of trolling, just an honest question. I see you won't answer the question and are put off by the fact that, yes your thread do get derailed.

Ever think that maybe it's done because the majority don't share your musical tastes.

So by your logic I should go join a Back Street Boys forum and demand that everyone there respect my views about classic rock and start threads about VH there. When people start giving me shit, I should be offended and demand everyone there change to my personal opinion.

It's like joining a church and then demanding that they change their beliefs to suit your own. A normal person who just join a church that matched their beliefs.

Do I need to be anything more than a VH fan to post here? Don't think so. That's your question answered.

Don't share tastes. That's no reason to spam the place.

This is not a church and VH is not a belief system. If it's that serious here then that's real sad.

I'm that type of person. I can identify with Roth, Zappa and their kind.
I sometimes feel it's neccessary to challenge the status quo and make things less boring, not by starting a flame war, but by getting an intelligent discussion going. Especially if there's a chance to crucify blatant hypocrisies or tired assumptions. Anything further than that, you'll have to call my therapist. (I don't have one.)

I'm really not following the logic at work here, Andy. You started this thread by offering the observation that Michael "upstages" Stevie Wonder. All the guy did was cover the song. Since Wonder was not present, how could Michael upstage him? And rather than provide any insight about the fellow, you merely post a series of videos. As such, you've offered no fodder for conversation to take place. Now you are complaining that no discussion is taking place, other than insults.

Like I said, I do not get it. If you wish to foment a discussion, perhaps it would be a good idea to initiate one by offering something more than some shop-worn videos, ya know?

Andy, you're a smart enough person and have been around long enough to know that some of the threads you start, you can almost guarantee what the responses will be.
Now I'm not talking about posting in The Front Line, that's a different animal all together and the way we tear each other apart is part of the vibe of that forum.

Was just curious why you'd post stuff and start threads that you'd know what the probable out come would be.

Ok, wrong choice of word.

True I didn't say much, but I just wanted to bring a little attention to the singing...

I am all for freedom of thought, opinion and taste. If I demand that I have the freedom to make the choices I make in life, I can't hold your choices against you, in a way.

I may disagree but I just don't get why you'd post in a forum where you know people don't necessarily express your same views. Wouldn't it be much easier to post in a forum where people share the same tastes as you. You'd get much more positive responses and better conversations.

Perhaps not the majority. But there's a few. And there's never a chance for discussion because the threads are derailed by the majority.

This is a general music discussion. It would be easy enough to stay out of it if one doesn't like it. So who's trolling here?

Shit threads like this get derailed because they're SHIT!

Ok, here it is in a nutshell...

George Michael- good singer

Andy Taylor - whining attention whore/troll

This thread- shit... time to flush!!!

Did you actually search and read some of the threads that people post here? You know to get the vibe of the place, before you decided to join. Seems to me with your personal tastes you'd have passed this place right by.

I know I've looked at places and decided there was nothing their sites had to offer me and if I posted my opinions, I knew I'd either get banned or have to argue with damn near everyone who was a member. Seems like an awful waste of energy.

Jimi's his own man and I am not trying to stick up for him(he sure as fuck doesn't need me for that and I'd probably get in his way) but I agree with him.

George is a great singer, being a Motown lovin' son of Detroit, the guy would of made a great blue eyed soul singer. There were moments that George had that were damn good performances.

Having said that, I really can't think of a song that he did that I like. His covers were good but his own music, I can't really say that I heard a song of his and thought that was a great song.

He was good for a laugh or two. Seems like it was mandatory KP duty, if you will, at DDLR.com for everyone to chime in and give him shit. Some of his Bon Jovi, boy bands shit was just too bizarre for him not to be a made up Alias, IMHO, but like the old saying goes, "Truth is stranger than fiction".

**Late game edit**

WTF, was his obsession with Dave being gay? Even when people conceded that even if Dave was gay what difference did that make about his music, that wasn't good enough for him, like a bi-polar Energizer Bunny, he'd keep going and going........

Jesus to a child, You have been loved and My mother had a brother are all moving songs. All on the same subject matter. He spends more time with drugs so he isn't prolific but I think he's proved his talent with just a few songs.

Dave Hagar fan was actually capable of making a point and of real debate, which was why he was tolerated at DDLR. He may have been a misguided tool in many respects, but he wasn't trolling and I'm pretty sure that although he fed off attention, he believed everything he posted and was a genuine Classic Van Halen fan...

Even so, his presence was fairly short lived at VHL. Considering he often received far rougher treatment at DDLR, it's surprising that he bailed so quickly.

He liked it "rough." :hee: He had to be the center of attention, even though he was actually capable of decently informed posts. Incidentally, he posted here for a very short bit, but I think left when he didn't get flamed for his username and realized few knew of his reputation over at DDLR...

Careless Whisper, Different Corner and a few more should qualify as great song writing.
