SHINEDOWN Singer Says SOUNDGARDEN Reunion Is Coming - June 23, 2009
According to The Pulse of Radio, SHINEDOWN singer Brent Smith spoke with England's Kerrang! magazine at the Download festival two weekends ago about the possibility of a SOUNDGARDEN reunion. Smith said, "There's talk of a reuniting of SOUNDGARDEN in the States soon. I know actually someone specific who told me that, who is actually specifically in their organization. Kinda told me that they're talking about it."

Kerrang!'s interview with Brent Smith can be viewed below.

An inside source told The Pulse of Radio a couple of months ago that a SOUNDGARDEN reunion tour was in the works for the summer of 2010, and that all four members of the band were tentatively interested.

SOUNDGARDEN broke up in 1997 after a five-album, 12-year career. The group was one of the key acts of the Seattle "grunge" scene and one of its biggest exports, along with NIRVANA, PEARL JAM and ALICE IN CHAINS.

Frontman Chris Cornell recorded three albums with AUDIOSLAVE after SOUNDGARDEN's demise and has also embarked on a checkered solo career. Drummer Matt Cameron plays in PEARL JAM, while guitarist Kim Thayil and bass player Ben Shepherd have kept lower profiles.

Cameron, Thayil and Shepherd staged a partial reunion at a recent Tom Morello show in Seattle, playing a handful of SOUNDGARDEN songs with Tad Doyle singing.

This would be very cool. One band that I would LOVE to see live - I was too young the first time around.

Cornell seems to be enjoying his solo career, and I respect his decision to try other forms of music (even if the result was horrible on the last record.)

'Louder Than Love', 'Badmotorfinger', and 'Superunknown' are about as good as music can get, IMO. 'Down On The Upside' had plenty of winners too.

Kim's play's guitar like no-one else, which mean that the bands sounds like no-one else. And Cornell has as good a voice as any singer I can think of.

I was a big fan of their studio output... I never saw them live, but what I have seen of them live (SNL and some bootlegs) appeared a bit underwhelming compared to the bombast of the band's albums.

Damn... I don't have any Soundgarden on my Ipod... surprised I overlooked them... I need to go into the closet tonight and dig those CDs out.

I think my favorite Soundgarden song might just be 'Mind Riot'.

Funny bit of trivia, but 'Superunknown' was released the same day as 'Your Filthy Little Mouth' in the US.

I'd love to see this happen. As binnie said, Cornell's latest solo work sucks...but if Thayil and others are also composing, I believe they'd still be able to put up some good material. Thayil and Shepherd wrote some half goofy, half bad-ass songs, and I mean goofy in a good way. Add some Cornell end-of-the world ballads and voila, you have a grate album.

And I don't like Audioslave anymore, it's a ood thing they broke up. The music has worn out pretty badly, all three albums had some good songs but mostly repeated each other.

Agreed.

The first Audioslave record is good, but nowhere near as good as it should have been. After that, they started to sound like middle of the road radio rock to me - sort of like Hootie and the Blowfish or something.....

'No. 1 Zero' was a great song on the second record, but I struggle to find high points after that.

Won't happen if Cameron is still with Pearl Jam yo ...

Cornell has been lame live from atleast '92 based on the live vids I've seen. He's also clearly out of ideas, first with the extremely generic Audioslave and now recording with Timbaland and thinking he's doing something new and creative. I don't want to see SG release something crappy all because of him.

Would love to see this happen.
But coming from the singer from Shinedown?
That clown looks like a thin Ozzy.
When they opened for Avenged Sevenfold i thought it was Ozzy on stage.

I knew that, too, cause I bought both on the day of release. Me, and three other guys on the planet.

Also, Pearl Jam "Vs." and Rush "Counterparts" came out on the same day. I was in college at the time. They had a midnight sale at the little local record store (not because of Rush, but I bought it anyhow).

I'd like to see this, too, but wonder about Cameron. PJ has a new record coming out in September, followed by a tour. Maybe they can alternate with Eddie Vedder solo records. I think Cameron has been in PJ longer than Soundgarden by now.

Whether it's on the back of a flatbed truck at Lakefair, or headlining Lollapalooza at the Gorge, I'd love to see Soundgarden back again.

I would go to the Soundgarden reunion if it happens, they are a great band that retired way too early.
Down On The Upside remains one of my favorite listens as well as the earlier cds.

I hate grunge, but "Black Hole Sun" is one of the best and most addictive rock songs ever written.

Step 1... getting Cornell on board

SOUNDGARDEN B-Sides Collection, Box Set May See Light Of Day - July 8, 2009
Ex-SOUNDGARDEN singer Chris Cornell has told RollingStone.com that he and his former bandmates have been talking — not about touring or recording, but about the group's legacy. "The only thing that we have talked about is trying to put together an album of B sides and maybe a box set with some unreleased tracks we have," Cornell said. "This is something we first talked about 10 years ago. We all feel it's time to do that, and we have a lot of fans out there, and we have a lot of new fans discovering our music, and I think the catalog and the legacy of the band has been ignored by the record label and previous management, so we decided to get together, and start working towards putting something like that out."

Regarding the possibility of a full-fledged SOUNDGARDEN reunion, Cornell told RollingStone, com, "I've always said nothing is impossible. I never wanted to be one of those people who tries to predict the future. I don't want to know what I will be doing two years, five years from now. I want to be open to anything, but nothing has changed in terms of our attitude toward it. It takes somebody to really stand up and say, 'We should do this, we have to go do this, let's go do this,' and so far, no one has raised their hand to do that. Still, it's not impossible."

Soundgarden Inadvertently Reunites At Area Cinnabon

SEATTLE—Members of the popular 1990s grunge band Soundgarden shocked critics and fans alike Tuesday, appearing together publicly for the first time in more than a decade after accidentally running into one another at the Northgate Mall Cinnabon.

The former bandmates come out for an encore of Chillattas.

The unplanned 15-minute reunion was the result of a number of unrelated events, including lead singer Chris Cornell stopping by the baked-goods franchise to buy a Caramel Pecanbon, drummer Matt Cameron taking a break from shopping at the nearby Banana Republic, bass player Ben Shepherd walking by and noticing his one-time bandmates in the food court, and former guitarist and Cinnabon daytime supervisor Kim Thayil working the 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. shift.

According to those in attendance at the packed fast-food venue, the highlight of the incidental Soundgarden reunion came when the rockers reconciled their differences and teamed up for the first time in years to finish off an order of Cinnabon Stix.

"At first it was pretty awkward and none of them seemed like they were really into it," said Al Helbling, 30, a Northgate Mall Sam Goody employee and Soundgarden fan. "But then the drummer comes in and right after that the bass player comes in, and it was like, 'Yes, Soundgarden is back.' It was so intense."

The former members of Soundgarden, who have not released an album together since 1996's Down On The Upside, reported that it was initially difficult to find common ground, but once they began exchanging ideas and riffing on which sugar-filled dessert they were going to order, the chemistry felt "as strong as ever."

While Shepherd told reporters he enjoyed seeing his old bandmates, he admitted to experiencing some last-minute doubts about going through with the encounter.

"I got all the way there, but then I just didn't know if I could do it," Shepherd said. "I had a huge lunch that day. And Cinnabon, that's some really sugary stuff, even if you have a sweet tooth like me."

Thayil, who joined the band shortly after it was formed in 1984, said some tension arose between himself and former front man Chris Cornell early on in the reunion, after Thayil scolded Cornell for entering the cinnamon-bun snack purveyor without a shirt.

"Honestly, I didn't even recognize Chris at first," Thayil said. "All I saw was this bare-chested guy entering the store, and that's unacceptable in the food-service industry. I hate to be the enforcer, but just because we were in a band together doesn't mean I can allow him to create an unhygienic environment."

The heated situation was quickly settled, however, when Thayil offered Cornell a complimentary 12-oz. CarmeLatta Chill. In turn, the 44-year-old lead singer responded by serenading Thayil with a version of the group's hit song "Black Hole Sun" in which he replaced the titular phrase with the word "Cinnabon." Cornell, former singer for the now-defunct group Audioslave, then stuffed his pockets with napkins, saying he needed them for a later solo project.

The two soon moved to a back table, where they joined Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron, the latter of whom said he was overjoyed to see his old bandmates, since he had to "kill some time" before Pearl Jam practice.

Although Tuesday marked the first time the group has fully reunited, the members of Soundgarden have had a few near-misses in the past 10 years. In August 2000, all four members were seen entering Seattle-area Arby's restaurants, but the reunion never materialized: Cornell and Cameron visited the Meridian Avenue location, while Thayil and Shepherd decided to visit the Michigan Street franchise. The afternoon did, however, mark the largest Temple of the Dog reunion to date, when Cornell and Cameron ran into the rest of the supergroup's members in the restroom.

After the success of the Cinnabon reunion, Soundgarden is reportedly planning a tour of the Sunglass Hut and Piercing Pagoda.
