I heard this tonite for the first time. I like it. I gotta say it sounds much better in my car, though. Not flashy, but it has a heavy groove.

I had no idea it was Phil Anselmo.

Everyone should check out 'Down'. This is a sideproject that more than marches up to the sum of its parts.

You've got Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown from Pantera, Pepper Keenan from Corrosion of Conformity (one of the more underated bands EVER), Kirk Windstein from Crowbar and Jimmy Bowers from Eyehategod.

Music is a Sabbath-fuelled riffest - heavy, but based firmly on well written songs. Albums also have lighter, more introspective Southern-fried moments.

'Nola' (1995) was a gem of an album - their most aggressive and generally seen to be the strongest, although 'Down II and Bustle in your Hedgerow' (2002) runs it a close second, with a groovier feel and richer production. 'Down III: over the under' was less overtly aggressive (still VERY heavy) and sees Anselmo sing his ass off, the patented screams are much less evident here.

If you like heavy metal, you like this band.

Down is a fucking killer band. Even before they released any music, I knew I'd love them as two of my very favorite musicians, Phil and Pepper, are members. HYS, how did you not immediately recognize Phil's voice?



Check out 'Wiseblood' and 'Delieverence' by Corrosion of Conformity whilst you're at it.


You forgot the following two (which are even better IMO)-'America's Volume Dealer' and 'In the Arms of God.' 'AVD' is in my all time top ten. And if you're diggin' heavy grooves, you gotta check out Kyuss' 'Blues for the Red Sun'-another in my top ten.



If you're a Phil Anselmo fan, check out Superjoint Ritual, if you haven't already. The only thing I can say about the music is that it's HARDCORE.


Yes indeed Superjoint is not for the faint of heart, but another killer band well worth a listen.

I love both of those records too - especially 'ITAOG', which is about as good as heavy music gets, IMO. Whilst AVD is great, it's not typical of COC's sound in the same way that 'Delieverance' is, for example, so I didn't think it was the best place for someone to start. That being said, EVERYONE should own 'The Sleeping Martyr'! :D
