From Blabbermouth.net

BLABBERMOUTH.NET has learned that former CRIMSON GLORY frontman Midnight (real name: John Patrick Jr. McDonald) passed away earlier today (Wednesday, July 8) from "total kidney and liver failure." He was 47 years old.

According to JON OLIVA'S PAIN guitarist Matt LaPorte, who played on some of Midnight's recent solo recordings, the singer spent his final hours surrounded by his mother, brother, daughter as well as members of CRIMSON GLORY, SAVATAGE, and JON OLIVA'S PAIN. His death occurred at 3:45 a.m EST at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida.

"I will miss my partner Midnight — the greatest voice and friend I've ever known," LaPorte told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. He added, "In spite of his demons, [Midnight] was a beautiful soul who constantly changed the lives of those he met and came into contact with."

Midnight sang on CRIMSON GLORY's first three albums — "Crimson Glory" (1986), "Transcendence" (1988) and "Strange and Beautiful" (1991) — before going into self-imposed exile for almost a decade. He eventually rejoined CRIMSON GLORY in 2005 but was dismissed in January 2007 following the revelation that he was arrested in Sarasota, Florida and charged with "DUI [driving under the influence] with .20 [blood-alcohol level] or higher or having a passenger under 18" years of age. Midnight, who gave his occupation as "painter" to the authorities at the time of the arrest, was also cited for driving with a suspended/ cancelled/ revoked license.

Last fall, Midnight announced plans to release a new solo CD called "All Souls Midnight" which was to feature the "Acoustic Crimson" EP (four songs) along with the lost "Midnight Mass" recordings from the late '80s/early '90s plus some other "cool rarities."

Man, this fucking blows. Mid was one of my favorite singers. He was kind of a wackjob, but he had the voice of an angel. His "Midnight Mansion" was actually my introduction to web forums. I had really hoped he would get his shit together and Crimson Glory could give us another "Transcendence." Fucking brilliant album, should've been bigger, but I think their ridiculous, creepy masks held them back from what could have been a fairly decent career.

I'll miss ya, Mid:cry2:

Sounds like he drank himself to death. Not familiar with the guy's music, but it's sad that anyone dies that young from self destruction :(

Yep, drank like a fish. I was "online pals" with him for a couple of years. He was fun, yet very weird. I actually quit following him right after his DUI arrest (I have a hard time respecting someone who does that.) That aside, he was so talented. He had a lot of demons, so his death at such a young age comes as no surprise.

RIP Mid.

One of my all time favorite tunes

I had only listened to one Crimson Glory song before. I remember being blown away by the vocals, I thought Michael Kiske had put on a mask and was fronting a Metal band again.

And while it is a tragedy to go so young, allow me to say, with a not-so-good-liver (the only part of my body not functioning at 100%, ladies ;), also because of the booze, that if you're gonna die, die wet.

R. I. P., mate. True talent, there. True talent.

Grate to see ya, D. How's life treatin' ya these days?

Cheers! :bottle:

Oi, watch it. Alcohol is no Daemon. It's pretty harmless, in fact. It's people who give it a bad name. Literally.

Because alcohol is NOT a mind-altering substance, as much as people want it to be.

It will, in fact, augment what YOU are. Meaning, if you're prone to laugh and enjoy things as they are, and you have no issues whatsoever, it will only enhance the fun you're having, and you'll find yourself laughing and enjoying life even more.

If you're prone to violence, much as you try to control yourself/hide that fact, every time you drink, you'll pick fights/be an arsehole.

If you're a boring person, guess what happens when you drink.

As much as people WOULD LIKE that it was alcohol's fault, it wasn't. It was their fault. All along.

It seems our very talented young man here had demons of his own. Augmented by the alcohol, of course it couldn't end well. Nonetheless, a great pity.

I may have to start a thread on this. Alcohol, I mean. I think I'll call it "Alcohol & Hypocrisy: a Study on Stupid Humans".

Cheers! :bottle:

What do you mean by this, my good friend? 4 and a half guys? That makes no sense.

Or if you are implying that SparkieD had four, maybe five relationships in her life, well I'm not one to judge - neither are you, by the way - but anyway, it strikes me as a perfectly normal thing.

Maybe you're just pissed off at women in general, 'cause none of them would gibe you the time of day?

Ok, enough fooling around.

Who opened the sewer lid and let this piece of shit Sammy Who crawl out again?

I don't think you need to be show the door, Sammy... you've been kicked out plenty of times before. Proceed to the exit, then.

Cheers! :bottle:

Imapus_Sylicker is right though. Alcohol does two things. Numbs feelings temporarily. And it enlarges your personality. If you're an asshole, you're gonna be a huge asshole drunk. If you're funny & a jokester, you're gonna be hilarious drunk. If you are mean to your dogs or wife normally, you're gonna beat the shit out of them drunk. If you're kinda promiscuous, you're gonna be a slut drunk (these are my fav by the way). It removes inhibitions so people's true selves really come out.

I remember a Bill Cosby piece where he was asking a drunk why he drank so much. The guy said to him "It expands your personality". Bill responded "but what if you're an asshole"? Nail on the head.
