Guitar legend Les Paul dies at age 94

(AP) – 10 minutes ago

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday. He was 94.

According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.

As an inventor, Paul helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll and multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the "tracks" in the finished recording.

Anyone who plays - or even listens to - any form of music with a guitar in it, owes a lot to Les Paul, for without him, it would have all been acoustic.

What a legend! Very rarely does the music industry get somebody so groundbreaking and innovative...

...I doubt we'll ever see his like again.

Step off.

It belonged in the guitar forum.

Fuck off.

It belongs in House of Music.

Les Paul was a hell of a lot more than just the name he put on Gibson's guitar. His entire life, his innovation, his musicianship and his creations are larger than a "brand name."

Next time, PM a mod and ask them to move the thread that came first if you think it's in the wrong forum. Don't intentionally start a dupe, dumbass.

Wait a minute...the mods think you're a fucktard too.

Never mind.

Think about his contribution to music compared to his contribution to instrument and recording technology. Which do you think was more significant? It has nothing to do with a brand name.

And I didn't know it was a dupe when I started it, obviously. I rely on assholes with no jobs to scour the entire website comparing posts. Nice work.

Only a homo like yourself could start a fight in a memoriam thread. I hope you're proud of yourself, pillowbiter.

His contribution to music and his technological innovation go hand in hand. The reason everybody heard his innovative techniques and technological innovations is because of the music he recorded along with his wife Mary Ford.

Your post came a whopping 36 minutes after the first one in the correct forum. Which shows that the only thing you were worried about was being "first." Attention whore much?

Wow...another genius who whips out the "gay insult." You remind me of another worthless douche nozzle named "Dolemite!" Is that really all you have?

And pointing out it was a dupe thread isn't "starting a fight." You're the one who fired back with "step off", so look in the mirror if you want to place blame, faghag.

Would a mod please close this thread so that the proper Les Paul memorial thread can continue untainted?

Ok, I nearly pissed myself laughing at this feud. It is a close call, but I have to give the nod to The Frying Dutch Pretzel. I was watching some you tube footage and the guy made some great music too. His collaborations with Chet Atkins are top notch and I believe it scored him a Grammy.

RIP.

I read an interview a long time ago in which Billy Idol said that someone had made a mistake; that the King of Rock 'n' Roll is not Elvis, but Les Paul.

Mike Malloy pretty much just said the same thing.

Elvis himself played acoustic guitar (aside from the 68 comeback special) but Scotty Moore wouldn't have sounded the same backing him up without an electric.

Ed's statement:

"Les Paul was a pioneer, an innovator and a dear friend. I am deeply saddened at the news of his passing. I was aware he had age-related health issues, but I did not know the depth or the severity. It was truly an honor to have known him and sit around with him talking guitars. I am especially glad that he, my son Wolfgang and I had a chance to spend some quality time together in the past few years. I will miss him dearly."
