Eagles re-sign QB Jeff Garcia for depth behind Donovan McNabb

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jeff Garcia (FSY) is back with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Eagles coach Andy Reid on Monday confirmed the team has signed Garcia, a 10-year veteran who played for Philadelphia in 2006 and went 6-2 in eight starts — including the playoffs — while McNabb was injured. The team needed a backup quarterback in case McNabb, who suffered a broken rib in Philadelphia's 38-10 win over Carolina in the season opener, is not able to play this week against the New Orleans Saints.

McNABB'S STATUS UNCERTAIN: Starting QB 'pretty sore'

Third-year pro Kevin Kolb (FSY) filled in for McNabb and will start this week if McNabb is out, Reid said.

"We're lucky Jeff was available," Reid said. "He's someone who knows this offense and has been very successful in this offense. He can be a positive influence on Kevin Kolb."

Garcia, who was signed by Oakland in the offseason to push JaMarcus Russell (FSY) and serve as a mentor to the former No. 1 overall draft pick, was released by the Raiders on Sept. 5 after playing little in the preseason.

Garcia played well in his previous stint with the Eagles three seasons ago, throwing 11 touchdown passes against two interceptions in eight starts.

Philadelphia's other quarterback, Michael Vick (FSY), is not eligible because he was suspended for the first two regular-season games as the last part of the NFL's penalty for his role in a dogfighting ring.

They never should have let him go the first time around.

He ignited the Eagles BIG TIME a few seasons ago, and then they showed him the door.

Welcome back, Jeff!

Makes me think that Kolb is gonna get cut (or maybe Reid is hoping he gets pummeled by someone on the Saint D so he can stash him away on IR ?).
Vick will be #3 and given just enough work so a trade can be shopped at the end of the season.
McNabb will be number one and Garcia is a solid back-up... the only knock on Garcia is that he is never satisfied with the back-up role... but you can't deny the guy can play and he can win... and his wife is fucking hot!

It's hard to get a read on what their plans are for Kolb. When he was first signed the prevailing notion was that McNabb was on his way out to pasture and Kolb was the future.

Now it seems like Kolb is an afterthought.

As for Garcia, I agree that he doesn't necessarily like the backup role. But I think he was comfortable with where he was with the Birds a few years ago, and wanted to stay.

It will be interesting to see if he has anything left.

I was shocked when the Panthers went after A.J. Feely... maybe Fox is looking forward to being unemployed soon. He should have called Vinny again!

It could be worse, if you'll recall last year at this time that Jeff George was sniffing around the NFL, looking to make a comeback. With the lack of veteran talent available, it's not that much of a surprise that rookies fresh out of college find themselves as starters the past couple of years.http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/smileys/free-scared-smileys-265.gif (http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/Free-Rolleye-Smileys/)

And much thanks Va, for the opportunity to yet again post an image of this lovely woman, one that I'm certain many will be appreciative of. ;)

LOL!
I was just watching the Jeff George work-out DVD on you tube the other day... he looked like a high school QB... except he was old with a beer belly.

Ah...yes...another hometown whore...

We breed them hot and slutty in the land of the Shoremen...

Now...if I were John Fox...I'd really be worried about Cowher...I don't know that Carolina has the wherewithal to sign him. My bet is that Cowher wouldn't sign with any team...

He's an unadulterated Steelers' fan (picks them every year to win the SB...last year...and this year), and worships the ground that the Rooneys walk on.

My bet is that there are teams that Cowher would never even touch...like any team in the AFC North...or Dallas...for example.

Now Carolina is an unassuming, blue-collar type team. Cowher's second home...and Jerry Richardson is a very good friend of the Rooney's.

It could be the perfect storm here in Carolina...

The question is...do they have the cash?
