Odd how Bono sings so incredibly flat when not in the studio these days.

You mean from that video? Um, it was 1987 and an unmixed, raw piece of leaked footage that never made it to the "Rattle and Hum" film...

There's a few complete shows from the 87 tour out there in cyberspace. All pro-shot for the film. Including some of the shows with Bono's arm in a sling (injured early in the tour. Maybe in Nick's home town, if I remember correctly)

That's the one where he gets into a shouting match with a fan and repeatedly drops the F-bomb, I forget why. I have most of the Sun Devil Stadium show somewhere. But, say what you want about the film Rattle and Hum, but from a technical standpoint, I've never heard a better job of live recording and the old VHS tape sounds at least as good as anything ever heard recorded. The DVD version is a complete blowjob however and I've seen better quality porn soundtracks and the CD versions of the soundtrack don't come close to some direct digital recordings I made from the VHS...

No, I mean anytime. Bono's one-dimensional voice grates my nerves. Always has. Never cared for U2's bourgeois style corporate rock and/or Bono's self embarrassing, egotistical pseudo-political stage ramblings much less his Eddie Van Halen reference quirks.

Well, tell that to the guy with a gun to your head forcing you to listen to U2 albums...

1:45 "I was wrong" That simple lyric and melody popped in my head while in the shower recently. I had to listen to several songs off Under A Blood Red Sky EP to find it. At first I was thinking who would sing a lyric like that? Not a HM/hard rock band. I thought of Lindsey Buckingham of F Mac (see "I'm So Afraid") but realized it was Bono. Nowadays he bugs me but back then (pre-Joshua Tree) U2 were quite fresh.

You know, I think that was the album that Bono was in some airport, and two "young girls" apparently made off with his suitcase that was full of all of the lyrics for October. He had to pretty much make up stuff on the spot in the studio or rely on his memory. "Gloria" was written after he listened to a tape of Gregorian Monastic chants.

Recently, the suitcase was found in someone's attic by their son. Contrary to the belief at the time, it was an honest mistake and the ladies had no idea who U2 or Bono were. It was returned with the original, unused lyrics last year...

The opening act for that LA show was a country band called "The Dalton Brothers".....

                      LMFAO!!

I never saw that shit!! Of course, they cut everything remotely humorous out of Rattle and Hum (with the exception of the interview) and make U2 look like a bunch of humorless tight asses when in fact they've done some pretty funny shiite...

FORD, you have the Remasters? Are they worth it? I almost bought the The Joshua Tree special edition for like $50...

I don't have the Remasters, but I've heard them. Have to admit, I was less than impressed with how they treated the "bonus" material. They finally release some of the early singles that were never available in the US before (on the "Boy" bonus disc) which is, in theory, a good thing. But since I DID have these singles, I could tell that these new releases were heavily overdubbed. The version of "Out of Control" from the original U2 Three EP in 1979 (released only in Ireland) has an entirely new drum track, and I'm pretty sure Adam's bass part has been touched up a bit too.

That's fucked up. It's one thing to pull some unfinished tapes out of a vault and slap a new track or two on it, like the Stones did with the Tattoo You album. But it's entirely different to take an officially released song, one that many fans have waited almost 30 years to hear, and alter its form.

Just one step above what Sharon did to Ozzy's albums with Randy, when you think about it. Except U2 is at least the same band they were in 1979.

Never liked them But the Super Bowl 1/2 time show they did was impressive.

I thought they were interesting and doing something different but now I'm tired of them. Especially since our bands singer can sound like Bono and play like The Edge. Our band has done a ton of U2 songs and if I have to play bass on the Street Have No Name again I'm going to put a bullet in my head.
