    What is this Encore business?

well who knows but here it is anyway....

Alex Van Halen leaks name of new Van Halen album, ‘Encore’

Alex Van Halen is, no doubt, excited about the upcoming Van Halen album.

Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen leaked the name of Van Halen’s new album, which would be their first new studio album in since the 1998 Van Halen III and their first in more than a quarter of a century with original frontman David Lee Roth. (The last Roth-era album was 1984, which has sold over 10 million copies).

    The name? Encore.

“For years, people have been wanting to hear classic Van Halen,” said Alex, the older brother of guitarist Eddie Van Halen. “With Dave back in the mix, we tried to think of an appropriate name. Encore just seemed right.”

Other names the band considered were 2010 (due to its propensity towards numerical names), Yes, He 812 (a spoof of the Hagar-era album OU812), We’re Back! and Van Halen IV.

Alex added the band will head back into the studio later in the summer once Eddie returns from his honeymoon with Janie Liszewski.

“Ed has literally thousands of tapes of unreleased guitar riffs and songs, so with Dave’s vocals, we expect it shouldn’t take long to get the album made,” Alex added.

The album, of course, will feature Alex’s nephew and Eddie’s son Wolfgang on bass. It may also feature a bonus track of the guitar riff used in Back to the Future when Marty McFly–dressed as an alien–wakes his own father from a deep sleep.

Alex, an ordained minister who will officiate in the marriage of Eddie and Janie in June, said the album will be out in 2010.

Van Halen to fire a Van Halen band member

If you’re a Van Halen fan who’s missed that “pint-sized, Jack Daniels-drinking bass player”, there’s good news.

As Van Halen begins work on Encore, their first studio album since 1997, they will now do so with a new but familiar lineup.

Janie Liszewski, soon-to-be Mrs. Edward Van Halen and the band’s publicist, said market research indicates the Van Halen fans want the original band together.

This would mean replacing her soon-to-be stepson Wolfgang Van Halen on bass with original Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony.

“Contracturally, there are problems since Mr. Sobolewski (Anthony’s real last name) is currently under contract with Sammy Hagar in the band Chickenfoot,” Van Halen said in a statement. “But the Van Halen fans have spoken: they want Mikey.”

Anthony was replaced a few years ago by Eddie’s son Wolfgang after a reported falling out with the band’s co-founder and guitarist.

Wolfgang added: “Of course, I’m disappointed. But I’d like to see Dad and Uncle Al (Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen) and Dave (lead singer David Lee Roth) release a new album. It’s been too long.”

Liszewski reiterated the lineup change has nothing to do with Wolfgang’s youth or bass playing. “He’s a completely capable musician who has skills beyond his years. This is just what the fans want,” she explained.

Hey, like many of you I'm numb to everything until the material's in my hands. But what I can tell you is that last year when I first posted the song Take Savara with Dave and Jeff Falkowski, what we didn't know was there were more songs that Dave did with the NYC guitarist that weren't posted and who knows if they'll ever see the light of day. However, JF was contacted and confirmed that they did more recordings together.
so, there's that. Jeff Falkowski .com

    Encore

    Hmmm, I kinda like that.

As for MA back in the band? Sounds like internet rumor to tickle my pussy with a feather. TEASE!

As for any VH news...I'll believe it when I see it, hear it, and can hold it in my greasy little fist.

I can't help thinking "Encore" does not jibe with the continuity of the previous 6 VH discs.

There was a running storyline from each title, and to me "encore" is like saying "best of" but - of what?

When DLR announces the title, that's when we'll know that's what the title really is. And he hasn't said anything yet.

DLR doesn't say much about anything, he doesn't have to and that's the one thing as frontman you'd expect him to give us. If it came from Alex - even if this is a hoax - it would have been first from Fearless Leader Diamond Dave.

I think we are all in agreement, we'll believe it when we see it. Or, even is Dave makes an appearance. He's like a groundhog. If he comes up and sees his shadow, we'll have to wait six more weeks for any news.

I was ready to believe the album title part, until I got to the part about Wolfie being fired and Mikey coming back, because "research shows its what the fans wanted".

Research showed the fans wanted Van HALEN in 1996, but all we got was 2 songs. The only figures that might change Eddie's mind are the box office receipts from the 2007-08 tour vs Velveetapalooza 2004 or the VDIII tour in 1998. And that was all about Dave being back, not Mr. Sobolewski.

                            . . . so true so true. doesn't sound like him. doesn't have the dave pizzaz . . .

. . . listening to van halen 1 i got to thinking about the genius of edward van halen's guitar playing and i started thinking something that is perhaps blasphemous libel. it occured to me that it was totally impossible for one man -- even one gifted man like ed van halen -- to come up with all the magnificent guitar parts he came up with for the album. so i think the way they must have done it is like this: templeman had a production team that included a group of hotshot guitar players who came up with melodies and parts, riffs and solo ideas that he picked from and had eddie play for the recording like a puppetmaster . . .

. . . it's the only way to explain how one album could be that jampacked with so much brilliance. on the other hand if eddie actually did compose all that material on his own . . . wow, what mindblowing genius!!!

                            . . . doesn't seem possible though . . .

Spoken how? By buying $150 tickets, selling out every venue they played, and making it the most successful tour of their careers? What's Mike gonna add? They want to sell out in 2 hours instead of 2 1/2?
