Songs that sound like other songs

I think the first of that new song by Jet, "That Girl's A Genius", sounds like "Simply Irresistible" by Robert Palmer. Another example is "Last Call" by DLR sounds like "Walk This Way".

Van Hagar "Poundcake" & Van Hagar "7th Seal".

It's the same fucking song... just substitute some monks for a drill, and another set of stupid lyrics from the Cheddar Clown.

      How about these Kiss homages:

"Hotter than hell" = "All Right now"
"Let`s put the X in sex" = "Addicted to love"
      "Dreamin`" = "I`m Eighteen"
"Never enough" = "Nothin` but a good time"

Wow, those are all Paul Stanley songs.

      I wonder what that means?

< insert song title here > by Iron Maiden = < insert song title here > by Iron Maiden.

Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Going off on a tangent here, but its in the same vein.
Ever noticed when you hear a new Greenday song, its
          instantly familiar...
This started shitting me, then I listened more closely,
For example you can break up any of their verses into
four parts, and each melody section is from another
popular song.. Chilli peppers do it too, also Offspring....

I wondered why all these "new" releases were instantly
          recognizeable.... Thats your answer..
Not a bad scam, grab 2 beatles tunes, 2 who songs
(whatever) and divide the verses and choruses up into
four parts. Then see which fit together, bingo, new song,
and one that sounds like you have known it for years.
          Because YOU FUCKING HAVE !

Stand by me, Every Breathe you take, Lonely Boy,
            Speedy Gonzales !!
            A, F#m, D, E

This is a drunken guess, after 12 bar blues this
would have to be the most used chord progression...

I bet if you think about it you could add many more
            to this list..

Who is going to open the pandoras box of 12 bar blues ???

The aforementioned Last Call by DLR and Aerosmith's Walk This Way.

Also, Great White's Pscycho City and Ozzy's No More Tears (chorus only).

Lots of Nickelback, but there was those two tunes
that you could play side by side and it was the same song...

Just cant find the linky at the momento...

The pisser about this being that the producers of Ghostbusters approached Huey Lewis about using "I Want A New Drug" for the film. Lewis declined the offer, so they turned to Ray Parker Jr, who created the theme by pretty much ripping off "Drug" note for note. Lewis filed a lawsuit which stretched on for a few years, finally winning and stripping Parker of a substantial amount of money.

There are a few artists that should sue Van Hagar for the same type of uncredited appropriations. For instance, the main riff for "Best Of Both Worlds" from 5150 sounds suspiciously like Kool And The Gang's "Celebration", while the insipid "Black And Blue" from OU812 curiously repeats AC/DC's "Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" to the point of absurdity.
