Rory Gallagher fantastic slide guitar

Any of you people stateside into Rory? Anybody get to see him when he toured america in the 70/80's?
I know he sold not many records in the states but i wondered if or what inpact he made on people outside of europe.

Guitar World recently had a great article on Rory. Apparently The Stones thought highly of him as a replacement for Mick Taylor.
