Ah, good ol' Stevie Ray... the last TRUE Guitar Hero...

Even though I'm a huge Malmsteen fan, I consider him to be in a different category entirely. I mean, with people like Eddie V. and Stevie Ray, EVERYONE would listen to them, while with Yngwie & his clones, it's only for us music nerds/geeks.

The best thing about Stevie is that although he could have easily become a wanker, he kept his music "simple - so to speak - enough that everyone could enjoy it... and just to hear him do a few chords is something... I wouldn't say "special", as it were, but there's definitely something in the way he played.

A true loss to music. I own almost all of his albums- am only missing Family Style, but that's only 'coz I haven't found it yet - and I really like how each one is a touch above the previous one... would he've kept it going like that if he lived longer? Gives me the creeps, just thinking about what he could've done... I know The Sky is Crying is my favourite, and that's from "leftovers".

                  Cheers! :bottle:

Was at his last headline gig in Mn. At Riverfest the month before he died. He used 2 of my buddies Marshall stacks that night. My friend worked at Pete's guitar shop in St. Paul and all the big shots bought guitar's from Pete. Sold the guitars to Clapton that he plays on the unplugged dvd. Bob Dylan, Slash, Scorpion's ect.. He went to the US Festival to work for the Scorpions as a tech. He watched The Scorpion's and Van Halen from the side of the stage. Pissed next too Ozzy !! He still has the Stacks in his basement and has never turned them on since that night. We road tripped it to Alpine Valley the next month and saw Stevie the Saturday night before the crash. He was killer. Clapton was good to. Jeff Healey came out also, I was just starting to get into him, what a waste !! Heard about the crash that Monday morning at work, they didn't know if it was him or Clapton for awhile. Make's me sick too think about it to this day.

Well, everybody sure can't play it, so I don't see it as simple by any stretch...

It's just as difficult to figure out a SRV lick as it is an Yngwie lick...

That's why I TRIED to post it between quotes, but forgot to add the closing one, and added "so to speak".

This is one of the finest, most ferocious versions of "Texas Flood" ever captured. It comes from the 1983 home video release Live at the El Mocambo.
