Okay, what little I know of the game I still enjoy it. So my question is this: I keep on hearing "Wildcat" or "Wildcat" offense. Just what is that?

Football?

So Many Sports Are Called Football.

I love NFL, honestly, secondly to AFL
(and if you watched the comparisons you would
agree) AFL (Oz Rules, no padding, helmuts, insanity, now thats football
and we actually kick to score more than throw to score, so football
is a better term for our game).

Having said all that, you know what is the bestest thing I love about your
Football ? The endless stoppages and timeouts. Its like the whole of
America has their turkey synched in with the foootball, you pig out,
sit on the couch, start getting into it, the tryptophan kicks in and in
one of the inevitble long timeouts filled with sponsors advertisements
kicks in and the domino "crashing out effect" takes place...
I love it, its unique to America and I wouldnt change it for the world.

Back here in OZ I struggle to run, grab a beer, have a piss as a major
play (like a score) would have happened in that time...

This is not a diss. In fact I think US football kills the english counterpart
Rugby in every way. I've been forced into Being a cowboys and
Volunteers fan... (Married into it) I still cant believe the cowboys fudged that easiest
of field goals two years back to win the game.... Like it was a 2 yard pass back to
the kicker and they just ballsed it up bigtime.... For the record, by this time
I was the only human still fighting the tryptophan and watching...
I actually thought the cowboys had it in the bag... All around me was snoring
cowboy supporters ?? :lmao: you would never see that here, to be fair we dont
have those long ass stoppages and timeouts..

DTM, I reckon you would have beena good (AFL) footy player..
Like a forward crumber who can snap those fast goals of
pack spillages...

Im surprised the AFL dont recruit more dudes from NZ ???
We now recruit from, NZ. fiji, somoa, Ireland, and obviously Oz...
I guess its all about the $$$, the latest AFL team has recruited
a top rugby league player ???

I guess its gonna happen eventually. Maybe you are getting a bit old now
though, you looked like a good wirey type forward...

Basically, they hike the ball to a fullback instead of the quarterback.

Thats funny man:biggrin:, but kristy thats not what they are trying to do
(assuming we are talkin NFL here

Each team has 4 goes at moving the ball forward.
Where the ball lands or the tackle was laid, the
pack/scrum is setup.
You have to to throw and contact one of your forward (offensive)
players before he is tackled by over 10 yards to earn a new scrum
without tackle loss count (remember the four)
If the play is within 10 yards and they fuck up, then they are
fucked up as they lose one of the tackle counts (four) they have
up their sleeves...

If the attacking team manage to penetrate (actually find another of their
men) beyond ten yards, praise the lord !! the scrum happens but they dont
lose a tackle count..
So you can see. its in their best interest to throw the ball as far as possible
to a receiver on the same team...
Now when the tackle count is used up, expect a field goal (not worth as much
as a touchdown) or a long bomb to the oppositions fullback or defence...

Hows that guys from an Aussie ??? In a concise form...

Ok, Im a closet sports fan of all codes !!!

the other versions to try and give you a condensed version of
how it works, so which football do you seek ??

I love how your video refs can cause a 20 minute break for sponsors !
Its classic, I can see how the old tradition of thanksgiving and crashing on
the lounge came about........ And I hope I experience it this trip....
I reckon its funny how when someone wakes up, then another, its
like, "who won ??" qwick hit the reverse on the TIVO..... With all due
respect I love that, its a really nice family comfort thing...

kwame k

We do Sunday Funday here......8 or 9 of us get together, drink bloody Mary's for the early games and basically drink all day.....those 20 min commercial breaks are great for getting snacks, pee breaks and refills.

Yeah, that's true, Mark.

Wasn't always the case though.

And I honestly don't understand why Aussie football doesn't do better here.

It is pretty vicious. I love the Aussie refs signals!

BTW.....ever watch any UFC fights?:)

Basically, they hike the ball to a fullback instead of the quarterback.

Yeah...basically the QB and a RB line up deep behind center, rather than the traditional way when the QB lines up with his hands on the centers' ass. Then, the ball can be launched behind the line of scrimmage directly to the RB or the QB, giving the QB the option to throw, run with it, or hand off to the RB. When direct snaps to the RB happen, it's usually to fool the defense, since usually it goes to the QB.

Usually the quarterback for the wildcat formation is not the starting quarterback for the team - they usually line that guy out at wide receiver as a decoy. Teams usually put a running threat/ athlete at quarterback for this formation. Usually it is the punt returner or their best wide receiver. 9 times out of 10 the person that is snapped the ball is going to keep it and run with it. This proves true whether it be Mark Ingram at Bama or Michael Vick at Philadelphia. The actual surprise out of this formation is when the quarterback does throw because that person is not a regular quarterback.

I love Australian rules football. I used to get stoned and laugh at those dudes in the top hats that come out beside the goal posts and motion for a score.

Sorry Kristy I missed this post last night ??

Thats awesome :)

My wife of five years (American) is now a total Australian Rules Freak.
I love it ! She knows all the rules and the Aussie sayings you scream out
at the game. She chose her UNI in the US (UT) because of the football
team and stadium there.. I never pushed her into it, she sat and watched
a few games and suddenly was right into it... If you have seen the pics
of our baby here, you will see she is already dressing him up in our teams
colours.... lol....

I reciprocally enjoy your version of football too. Probably more the colllege
stuff. But a good NFL game rocks. It absolutely kills the english rugby
derivatives that 2 states in Australia play, and all of NZ,
but I guess the kiwis are well known to be the south sea Poms !!

Just for you DTM !!

Kristy

Probably more the college stuff. But a good NFL game rocks.

That's where I'd disagree with you. I LOVE college football (although I will never understand all that BCS crap). There's just something about being in the crisp autumn air at a college game. The NFL is to full of over-paid prima-donnas and there are just some gawd-awful teams - Cleveland, St Louis, Oakland - that just bore me to tears to watch.

Kristy

So I suspect he's got his mother's looks?

Panamark
12-12-2009, 01:54 AM
Eyes are hauntingly the same as Mom!

Rest of him, pretty much me.. (In my opinion anyway)
If you compare my baby pics with him, you would see it,
except I have dark blue eyes..

I love his Mom's features in him, as you know I think Mary
Frances is possibly the most beautiful woman on earth.
(How the hell did I get her ??) So the more bits he gets from Mom
the better I say...

But I think he is a nice blend now of the two of us....
His hands for example, check em out, he could rip a tree out the gorund !! lol
(Proud Dad if nobody noticed)

I had given up on this ever happening to me ???
Then something cosmic disagrees with you....
How can we argue ??
