Bootleg Of The Year: NIN - Portland, OR Rose Garden 12/7/08

Like any capture of visual or auditory art, it helps to have superior subject matter to begin with.

There was some statements made publicly in January of this year by Trent Reznor concerning this and two other shows. He has always been positive-minded about people recording his shows, and a shitload of people (gee I wonder who? wink-wink) brought their hi-def camcorders to 3 different stops on the Light The Sky Tour (Victoria, B.C., Portland, Sacramento).

Trent's production on the last tour was mind-blowing to say the least. Groundbreaking technology, using lasers and infra-red technology to trigger visuals on translucent 60-foot long screens (3 of them), one at stage front, one at mid stage, one at stage rear.

Seems his plans to film an end-of-tour performance for DVD release were fucked up by a certain record label, so 'someone' took matters into his own hands. Trent WAS originally going to use James Cameron's crew to film concert footage in 3D and release it to theaters.

    Here is his statement:

"I made two critical mistakes," Reznor wrote while explaining why he had to spike the project. "One was to approach a certain record company that owns some of the song rights about producing/funding. The second was to allow said company to f--- around as usual for months before saying 'Um... no.' We then achieved the impossible by finding alternate production/funding but the timetable is too rushed to get it filmed comfortably with the remaining time left on the tour."
    Read about the footage here:

Here is some HD youtube footage:

Terrible Lie (from Portland, OR 12/7/08)

Naturally you can download other tunes (if not the entire show) from this concert on youtube.

Here is where you could download raw footage (the original post in the NIN forums). Not sure if the raw HD vid is still there, but the files were HUGE 400 gigs overall):

Whoever put together ( ) this DVD bootleg did an amazing job of editing all the HD footage together, and the audio is an immaculate soundboard recording.

I just got this DVD the other day from a bootleg connection I have, and am watching it right now. This is one of the most amazing performances AND DVDs of same I have ever seen.

Trent is a superior COMPOSER, and has always been driven to provide the best he can for his fans....not just in album production, but in bleeding-edge concert experiences.

I saw the Gnashville stop on this tour on Halloween night 2008. Fucking amazing. Of course there is a shitload of standard video footage of that show on youtube as well.

I realize not everyone here is into "industrial" type rock, but in my opinion, he is a COMPOSER (as I said before), not just a "songwriter" or "musician".

He truly lives by the lyric (which could easily be seen as being directed to said assfuck record label):

Head like a hole, black as your soul, I'd rather die, than give you control
Bow down before the one you serve, you're going to get what you deserve

So....even though the show was in December of 2008, I say this is my favorite for bootleg DVD of the year 2009. Absolutely astonishing in scope, and worth WAY more than what I paid for it (nothing).

Too bad the record label prevented him from filming this show in 3-D. That would have been astonishingly badass!

IF you can get your hands on this DVD and are into NIN (or even if you are not) it is worth seeing.

    Thus endeth the review.

    Hmmm, than's hot.
To put it simply, we need to worry a lot less about how to communicate our actions and much more about what our actions communicate.

I didn't follow much of the Ghosts I-IV; downloaded it, but there was supposed to be alot more material done with guitarist Adrian Belew.

I thought some of those tones were epic! Belew is STILL awesome..
