View Full Version : Mounting Bolt-On Necks

There's been abit of discussion in other threads on how exactly one should mount a neck.

Some guys, they just put a #2 phillips bit or screwdriver-shank cutoff from an old one, place the fretboard down on the carpet, put the body on that and just drive the screw into bare neck wood hoping for the best.

Some guys rightly figure this will split the wood, some find out the hard way such as we'd seen Sarge experience thru his one mailorder nightmare.

Some go the extra step to look at the screw then eyeball a drill bit alongside that looks a hair under the shank width (less the thread) and this is the correct thing to do. But there is an order to this I'll demonstrate.
