I was listening to Eddie Trunk's show on the Boneyard tonight and he had some interesting stuff to say about Diamond Dave. He said that he (Trunk) was in Las Vegas 2 weekends ago and heard from a reliable source that a promoter was trying to get a Vegas show going with Dave, Vince Neil and another singer (i can't remember for the life of me who) all sharing the same backing band. The plan would be for each singer to do about 6 songs and then all come back at the end to perform together. He went on to say that one of the singers involved had actually had discussions but he wouldn't say who. He hinted that it wasn't Roth because Roth is still laying low in hopes of Van Halen doing something. He said that he couldn't see Roth pursuing anything until he is out of Van Halen so as not to piss Eddie off, and since he has still been quiet, one can only assume that he is in Van Halen.
He didn't say it, but it would make the most sense that Vince would have had the discussions considering he owns his own night club in Vegas. He didn't report on who the backing band would supposedly be. I was hoping someone else may have heard this so i can find out who that 3rd singer was that was floated.
Trunk also played Women in Love and commented on how it is still as fresh today as it was then. He said that very few artists' music hold up over the test of time like Led Zep, but that Van Halen does, especially the first few albums. This kind of surprised me considering I always kind of thought Trunk was on Sammy's jock a lot.
Anyway, thought it was at least noteworthy.

The Rat Pack Redux?

:gulp:

Can't see DLR being the slightest bit interested in that.....

The size of Dave's ego prevents other lead singers from sharing the stage. Seriously, when has anyone ever seen Dave share a stage with any singer?

Vegas? Dave's been there done that....

Translation: Eddie Trunk was fluffing Bobby Blotzer's pork in a maintenance closet for "inside" information. As ignorant as he is, he attached Daves name to the rumoured project to generate buzz...

(Ever wonder why he calls the show "The Boneyard"?)

Damn, i was hoping someone else may have heard this shit. If it is something that was "floated" as was reported, i'm glad Dave is not responding. Even if he were to get the boot from the Bros Dysfunctional, he would be better off recording a new album and going out solo. The previous Vegas gig somewhat tarnished his image so i agree he definitely doesn't need to go down that road again. It's just bugging me as to who the third singer was they mentioned....couldn't have been Stephen Pearcy because Ratt is coming out with a new album and tour. It damn sure wasn't Hagar. I can't think of who would somewhat fit that same mold. Can you imagine how long it would take Dave to smack the shit out of Vince off stage? Vince grew up idolizing Dave but i can see them getting sideways real quick.

Let's see...Dave (Moe) Roth, Vince Neil and a player to be named later? Yep, we pretty much know how this will work out...

Brett Michaels?

This has to be one of the most stupid unlikely rumors about Roth I've ever heard and like a lot of people here I've heard a sackful over the years... :)

I don't believe it for a second.

The whole Vegas schtick was one of Dave's biggest career missteps and flops.

DLR may be a headstrong and compulsive, but he's not stupid...

Yeah, I don't think Dave will go anywhere near another Vegas show. The problem was he wasn't David Lee Roth for those shows. He totally changed his persona. After a lifetime of building up the perfect character, he suddenly tried to reinvent himself.

Dave jammed with Top Jimmy at the Cathay De Grande, a grubby basement club in North Hollywood in 1981. I think maybe a few times - but definitely not many.

I have a pic of them onstage together, which is not often seen. I'll post it if I can find it.

I'll have to take a listen.

I record Trunk's show on The Boneyard...the best programed four hours on the Boneyard since the merger took The Yard's nuts...fucking Sirius repetition and narrow playlists now.

Like posted...I know Trunk had talked a week ago about hanging with Neil during the super bowl in Vegas...I would think that is where it is coming from.

If you hear the show, post who that 3rd singer was supposed to be. Obviously, this isn't something that is going to happen but i think it is plausible that some promoter or casino came up with the idea. Making it fly, however, is an entirely different thing. There are always going to be people with money who come up with lame ideas that never materialize. I wouldn't even doubt that it is something that Vegas club owner Vince Neil put out there just to stir some shit up. Then again, he has a new solo album coming out so you wouldn't really think he would have any interest in something like this unless his band was going to be the backing band.

Sesh guessed it...Brett Michaels.

No way should Roth go on stage and share the same band as those other two IMO.

Trunk is a Sammy fan...but he always pays respect to the six pack. He was bang on too when he commented about the genius of those first albums...and how they stand up to anything put out today.

Does the 2002 Tour with Sammy Hagar count? In all fairness, Dave didn't even like Sammy, but he does consider Vince Neil a friend. I could see them doing a one off show together just singing cover tunes and jamming or something like that, albeit as more of a spur of the moment type of thing. Not sure who the third singer would possibly be, though.

But, with no official word about the status of Van Halen, we can only assume that what Eddie assumes about DLR is true and laying low so as not to ruffle Ed's feathers. As DLR mentioned in his Crazy From The Heat book, Ed DOES have selective amnesia.

I was listening to the Boneyard last night and Eddie Trunk said that he called Van Halen's management in an attempt to get Eddie on "That Metal Show" for VH1. He says he was told no and that Van Halen wouldn't be doing anything in the press for the foreseeable future. This leads me to the following thought:

Wake The Hell Up ED !!!!!!!!!!!

What the fuck! God that upsets me. Such a fucking waste. I feel so cheated by being a fan of this band. Throw us a bone for Christs sake Eddie. I'd even take a raw tape of you noodling while Dave burps the alphabet in the background.

I tried to call in to the show a couple of times last night to ask him if he had called Dave's management and tried to get him on the show. I never could get through but i am going to keep trying. Seems kind of obvious that Trunk is more of an Edward Van Halen fan than he is of any of the singers but if he truly wanted to get the scoop and Edward said no, then why wouldn't you call Roth and see if he would? If Dave said no, then that at least it would give you the idea that Van Halen is probably still a go at some point.
