OK...so the title and description were hyped up bullshit.

Ed is currently working on.......(drum roll please!)

FIXING A DRUM KIT!!!!!

Ed apparently stopped in to a Grainger store in Burbank to pick up a clamp for a drum kit! Here's a picture of him with some lowlife retail hardware store manager!

http://www.vhnd.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/evhgrainger1.jpg

So there you have it!!!

If anybody gives a rats ass about this, you can find it at the VH News Desk.

Now we can finally close all of the "What's Van Halen's Next Move?" threads (and all similar threads)

We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief, now that we know the state of things!

How do you know he's a lowlife ?
Might be a grate bloke ?

Thanks for the updated pic, Ed looks well..
He looks better than I feel, and I havent thought
that for 15 years..... lol....

Arguably the funniest thing I can ever imagine myself seeing is Eddie Van Halen playing the drum track for Hot For Teacher and Al playing Eruption...

So someone is a lowlife because they work in retail? How many poor fucks lost their 'real' jobs and had to take a lower paying job to support themselves or their families?
I work in a warehouse, so what does that make me?
Van Halen has always struck me as a people's band, the kind of music that gets the working class through their day.
This is a free country, and folks like myself have served so folks like yourself can voice their opinions freely, but that was fucked up knocking somebody just because they are in a lower tax bracket.:fufu:

To all taking offense at the "lowlife" comment....get the sand out of your vaginas and get a sense of humor.

Like it or not, the retail service industry is chock full of 'em, and while the guy pictured above may NOT be one, I was painting with a broad brush.

I'm sure the Grainger guy pictured above is a wonderful, kind human being dedicated to customer service.

But if his face ever shows up on America's Most Wanted (or whatever similar type show you Aussies have, Markie) all of you over-sensitive bastards owe me an apology.

Un-fucking-believable. A post about Eddie's whereabouts and goings on (the first CREDIBLE piece of information on the forums lately by the way), and people pick apart a meaningless offhand comment about a retail sales clerk in Burbank that nobody knows.

All I can say is "wow"...

Try to stay on topic, asshat.

Hey Panamark...take the word "lowlife" out of my original post so ol' tojoro here can pontificate about the actual topic at hand with his glorious 29th post...

We're waiting to see what insight you would have offered had you not felt compelled to come to the defense of the retail service industry.

Please, continue....

Yep, there's also plenty of lowlifes in the upper echelons of industry as well.

Not for nothing...you're really scraping when you have to find some random pic of Ed shopping at Grainger.
Sorry to have gone off topic on your enlightening post, but what was there really to be on topic about?

Apology accepted!

You are really much too sensitive, friend. There's a thread on here somewhere about Valerie Bertinelli's new sitcom with Betty White...your sensibilities may be better suited for that topic.

As for the pic being "random", I wouldn't say that something found on the Van Halen News Desk (Van Halen News Desk (http://www.vhnd.com)) is exactly "random."

Many of the threads that show up here originate from there.

What was there to be "on topic" about you ask? Perhaps you don't have enough time in here to notice, but the place is overrun with random speculation threads about the future of Van Halen, and what everyone thinks is going on. What's Ed doing? What's Dave doing? Is Mikey back in? Who's the next member of Van Halen to market a condiment? What's your "best guess"? etc... ad FUCKING infinitum...

None of it has any basis in any kind of fact. I was simply providing actual, real information about the latest goings on in the world of Eddie. That was the topic....albeit somewhat tongue in cheek.

But you're obviously not very keen on subtlety or sarcasm.

Spot on, dude.

Frying, you normally come across as a grate poster whit a good head on his shoulders, but that comment about the number of Tojoro's post was completely uncalled for.

Thankfully, this forum has very little of the retardedness of the rest of the internet, but every now & again a post pops up about the member number/number of posts.

Let me stress here once & for all, that that kind of behaviour, along with posting FRIST!!!11!! comments, l33tspeak, & a shitload of other retarded behaviour has contributed fiercely to hijack the internet from its original purpose of spreading free porn around the world & turn it into a cesspool of abhorrent stupidity that completely challenges any sane concept of evolution.

I now address every single member of this forum.

Please.

Don't be a retard.

I said I was sorry...you don't seem to be picking up on that, as you continued to be pretty much condescending to me just because I said you were out of line.
Maybe I should of waited til after lunch to post. I work in a warehouse...along with that, I have to work with folks who look down their nose at me because of my position.
I chose my own career path, and this isn't yours or anyone's problem.
It's obvious I didn't set my sights too high in life, and that's tough shit for me, but it doesn't make me or folks in a position like mine any less of a human...just different.

Back to the point of the thread, what sort of clamp would you need on a drum kit that you couldn't find at a music store? OK, it's unlikely Ludwig makes anything that will allow you to clip on a coffee holder or ashtray next to the snare drum, but come on, isn't that what a second floor tom is used for, to rest your drinks and snacks on? http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/smileys/free-confused-smileys-718.gif (http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/facebook-smileys.html)

Dude...I saw your apology...and I accepted it.

Back at ya if you took my comment in my original post as some sort of "attack" on everyone who works in retail or the service industry.

I also think the guy in the picture with Ed looks like Danny Bonaduce after he lost a battle with some black hair dye.

But by no means should that be interpreted as me casting aspersions at all retail clerks or warehouse workers and saying that they all look like a steroid-riddled former child TV star.

Sounds like you work with some assholes who disrespect you, and you saw a comment in my post that made you feel the same way those folks do. Obviously not my intent...I don't know you or your co-workers.

Uncalled for....probably.

Damaging and the worst possible thing that could have been said to someone on here? Not by a long shot.

I was annoyed that someone as "new" as tojoro would step in to a thread that had the first "legitimate" piece of VH news in months (even if it was completely miniscule, retarded, and non-newsworthy) and completely derail it by taking offense to an offhand comment completely unrelated to the topic. He took a silly thread about Eddie buying a stupid clamp for a drum kit and turned it into a diatribe about freedom of speech, his military service, and the plight of the unemployed.

Not that those aren't all worthwhile topics, mind you...but holy FUCK!!! A little deep for a thread about Eddie buying a clamp at a hardware store....dontcha think?

He came in with a chip on his shoulder, looking to mix it up...and he got what he came for.

Honestly, I would think that if you felt compelled to admonish anyone for their behavior, it would be those who throw threads off-topic so they can grind an axe about something they found "personally" offensive.

Instead, you chose to admonish me for swinging back after I got jumped on over a meaningless comment. Look at the thread again and see who started stirring the shit. If, after you're done, you still think it was me...then so be it.

I won't love you any less, Imapus....:umm:

Ya know, you might be on to something there. Having cornered the market on doodads for the guitar and having moved on to the field of shoes, maybe Ed plans to now make his mark in the world of percussion.

"Yeah, these guys at Grainger, they get it."

Surely, the sky is the limit, and I can't wait until Ed decides to set his sights on the Mr. Coffee machine, thus causing a revolution in the world of drip coffee makers. That Dyson guy with his vaccuum cleaner featuring a ball had better stay sharp should EVH decide to further pursue things in the home appliance field.

I couldn't care less if you were wiping the floor with Tojoro, or if it was the other way around. That's the beauty of this place. It's all for one & every man for himself.

And nearly, if not all, regular posters here have proven again & again that they can fend for themselves, and there's only a "gang up" of any sorts when it's to chase away trolls and/or obviously mentally challenged newcomers.

Not to sound like a doof, where Al is his brother and drummer, but as Ed originally started on drums and may or may not be inspired by an idea in the middle of the night, do you think he has a small kit up at 5150 to bash out ideas on, or would it be a drum machine/ protools?

True, there is a myriad of post/thread topics on this site but after all the common ground is,.. We are all more than just a little bit hungry for some music that we all know is "perhaps" a bar or two above what we can find on the shelves these days.

He has a kit there, and used it to record the dismal tracks for that crummy porn film a few years back. You can see him pounding on it in a few brief shots in this clip. (I chose the short version to lessen the pain of watching this, as it's obvious that Ed wasn't exactly in the best state of mind at this time).

File under "for what it's worth", Al has said in interviews that him and Ed try to jam together at least once a day for a couple of hours.

Craig already posted the video from the pron soundtrack and while very basic, Ed can play drums.

Al also stated in an interview around the OU812 period that a track from that album features a drum intro that was one of Ed's beats. The thing is, the beat is merely a segment of a riff from near the end of Sabbath's "War Pigs", played on the kick drum.

while very basic, Ed can play drums.

He needs to play every instrument, in case he just gets pissed off at everyone and starts a one-man band.

I believe that Ed laid down the bass for the shitty tracks that were tacked on to BOBW....leaving Sauce completely out of the mix until the trainwreck tour that followed.

But one thing is for certain...he will never be able to sing lead. A fact proven 100% accurate in 4 little words...

'Tis odd Ed would go to Grainger for some drum gear...but then, when he was a lad, he invented some pretty cool shit out of nothing. It would be cool to see that innovator return.

Unfortunately, "Ed the innovator" is long gone...and has been for years. Any innovations you see from him moving forward will be in the field of marketing.

He's been replaced by "Ed the happy just to be alive" and will do the minimum he needs to do to keep cranking in the $$$$

He's trademarking and marketing everything that's not nailed down, no doubt with the help of his new bride. To me, rollin' that way says "I'm in the twilight of my life/career, and I'm gonna earn my money the easy way."

Car auctions, replica guitars, amps, sneakers, some personal appearances here and there....those are Eddie's money machine these days.

To a degree, he's earned the right to lay back and rake it in at this stage of the game. But by the same token it's always disappointing to see an innovator just roll over and shut down.

Nothing would please me more than to be wrong, and to see VH come blasting back out of the box this year and bottle that lightning one more time.

But the odds are against it. Roth still has the fire and desire....but unfortunately I think he's the only one.

Al also stated in an interview around the OU812 period that a track from that album features a drum intro that was one of Ed's beats. The thing is, the beat is merely a segment of a riff from near the end of Sabbath's "War Pigs", played on the kick drum.

Notice how the EVH brand expanded since Ed got involved with this woman he married. He is an asset to her but to be honest, she managed to clean him up, he looks happy, and we got a tour with Dave. The woman probably married a chain smoker with half a tongue and rotten teeth for money. Fucking Ed is probably like making love to a soggy Marlboro that got retrieved from a public urnal, so she is deffinatly earning her share of what she is getting.

I wonder if he really likes touring? When you spend your life at home, can sleep in, roll up to 5150 and play around on your schedual, being on tour with it's rigorous routine probably gets old quick. Ed hates doing interviews and he seems to like to live in and environment he controls. Being on tour with a tour manager running you around probably makes it a job and it was fun when he was young and hungry but not so much now. He was more into promoting his amps and guitars than tearing it up night after night.

Alex Lifeson of Rush once said he enjoys performing but hates touring. He said all the traveling, sitting around, being away from friends and family gets old quick. He said the process of getting to the gig is the part of touring he hates. The actual gig is fun but the rest of it sucks. Gene Simmons said you can have the nicest tour bus on the planet and after several months of living out of the thing, you will hate it. It gets old. I think a lot of these guys hate living out of a suitcase, doing interviews, sitting around, and being on a rigorous itinerary. It might have been fun in the old days when they were hungry, grabbing ass in every town, being drunk and stoned all the time. When they get older the drugs and boozing have taken their toll, family seems to be more important, the groupies are now 40 somethings that don't compare to the trophy wife they have back home.

I think his tearing it up on stage or lack thereof, was due to him still being a drunk and his wrist/hand injury.

He always claimed he's just a musician.....well, musicians write, record and tour, rinse and repeat. Look at Les Paul.

People may rag on The Stones or Clapton but they are doing exactly what their heroes did. Played till they dropped. The quality of the work may have dropped and the new music isn't as good as the old but they are out there doing it. Gotta respect that.

Oh, I hear what you are saying, brother...you have to have some parameters set for the action to take place. But by the same token, you do not need actors wandering about, bumping into the furniture and waxing poetic at length about the vast whatever that is out there, before they finally drop their clothing and get around to what we all tuned into in the first place. Why must this sort of thing need much of a set up? Play some creepy Halloween music, show a maiden gazing upon a full moon from a balcony, and let the plastic bat hanging from a wire turn into a horny vampire. For shits and giggles, bring in the wolfman to complicate things.

Now hard is that to film? :duh:

Maybe this is a bit of a stretch, but I'll put it out there given the lack of news from the VH camp.
I just read this excerpt from a recent Tony Iommi interview...

On stem-cell treatment on Iommi's hand: "The cartilage between the thumb joints of my right hand, my fret hand, was rubbing, bone to bone. They’ve cured that but the bone’s been pushed back and I’ve been told I may need another operation to pull the bone up. I don’t particularly want to go there because I have a friend, also a guitar player, who had that operation and it all went pear shaped which put me off a bit.’’

Could he be referring to Edward? I might be wrong, but I believe that Iommi mentioned in the past the Ed was the person who influenced him to have this treatment. Could a surgery have fucked up Ed's hand to the point where his playing may have been impacted?

WHAT IS VAN HALEN UP TO NOW?: PART 303:
So I keep getting hammered with e-mails asking "what is Van Halen doing...". Not much it would seem. There is the occasional "new material is being worked on" comment comes from the band, but with no ETA and it seems a chance for the band to team up for a long rumored mega-name dual-headliner tour has evaporated for 2010.
There is no word to suggest that if and when anything new comes to pass that David Lee Roth will be the singer at the helm, but it seems Dave isn't wasting any time sitting around. I'm hearing he has been working on new solo tunes with guitarist John 5 and drummer Greg Bissonette.
Stay tuned...

Huh? Did I miss something? Do we have some sort of inside source???

The sum total of "inside" information about Van Halen has always been a dubious amount. For a while, there was a guy who was somehow related to Hagar (we are talking distant cousins here, a rare seedling on the Hagar family tree that apparently has few, if any branches) that offered some details regarding the recording details of that insipid era, including the dismal tracks created for the unlistenable BOBW set.

Otherwise, you have a pile of rumor and innuendo from people unfortunate enough to have had business dealings with the VH camp from one period or another. The common thread in all of this commentary has been an underlying sense of dismay and bewilderment. Look, if one guy tells you that it is raining, you might have some doubt. If several folks walk by you saying the same thing (and appear to be soaking wet), you might wish to dig out an umbrella, ya know? The thing is, any details usually are stated as iron clad by these observers. In the nebulous atmosphere that the VH braintrust inhabits, by now everyone on the outside knows that the term "iron clad" is only applicable to a mere fragment of time. Like Dave Roth once said, "Here today, gone not tomorrow, but later today".

Yeah, Eddie also played bass on Sammys untitled album that came out some time in between 5150 & OU812. Many instances where extremely talented musicians can play many different instruments. Eddie can play guitar, bass, drums, keyboards...and maybe tuba.

I'd bet anything that there is a very nice drum kit set up at 5150 studios. Even if Alex only came over to practice or record a couple times a month, I doubt he is hauling a kit & setting it up every time. Not like these guys are hurting for money and can't afford multiple sets or have to hit Guitar Center for the 5-piece $99 starter sets.

This was covered earlier in the thread. There indeed is a kit set up at 5150. Besides, common sense would require one to be available at all times, since the Van Halen brothers claim to play together quite often.

You see, this is why one shouldn't attempt to glean new info from that web site. Let's face it, Andrew has made an admirable endeavor to find news from musicians that are well past there "sell by" date. I mean come on, did you ever care about the musical endeavors of the keyboard player from Survivor, even during their heyday around and shortly after Rocky III? Nonetheless, the guy has done a swell job making the aspirations of has-beens appear to be newsworthy. The flaw is in his fact-gathering, which is predicated upon the word of mouth from these individuals, the word of which rarely (if ever) matches their achievement in today's world. It has to do with relevance in the here and now, which most of these artists have little of. Yet the guy takes the word of these people on faith. To compound things, fact checking isn't high on his "to-do" list. This has been proven repeatedly, the most obvious being when he posted an (at the time) four year old rumor at the Links as a bona fide fact. That the thread was unearthed and necroposted by a troll was left out of the "facts" when presented on his web site.

As a result, anything presented as doubt-free information by the guy should be taken with a container of salt. So if you have a source other than Andrew, by all means give it a shot. At this point, being a VH insider means you attended a hot rod sale in Scottsdale, Arizona earlier in the year, or saw the proceedings on the SPEED channel.

Why in the fuck does he ignore the fans and refuse to put out any DVDs of the stuff we all really want to see? Look at how many pro-shot shows Kiss have put out? All remastered video with fucking 5.1 surround sound!

In fact, out of all the world-class, A-list bands out there, spEd is the only cat who refuses to do that! Christ! All the classic bands have done it - Led Zep, The Stones, The Who, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, AC/DC, and on and on and on.

And their fans love them for it!

WTF? Is he such a self-centered bastard who hates his fans so much he will not give them what they want? The fans are what bought him his goddam mansion and sports car collection! The fans are the reason WOLFY IS IN HIS FUCKING LIFE!

If CVH never got beyond minor-league, regional bar-band level, do you think Val would have even thought of maybe wanting to blow his ass? Fack no!

He should be bending over backwards to thank US, the FANS OF THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN for EVERY THING OF VALUE HE HAS IN HIS FUCKING LIFE!

But NOOOooOooOoOOooOoOoOOoo!!!!!

All he wants to do is sit in his fucking mansion in Beverly Swills with trophy wife #2 and his studio, making the yearly press release about how he has a million years worth of fucking material in the can and live the fucking high life, while once in awhile dropping some kind of goddamn cash-grab crap on the public for those morons who still think that if they have an EVH amp or guitar or pick or something, then they can play like him!

Instructional DVD? Neat idea! But again, it is something nice to put under the Christmas tree for that young aspiring and still impressionable guitar player in the family. But that is all! Well, it could be useful for all those people who play in cover bands who perhaps want to know exactly how their fave CVH tune was played....only problem is he can't remember how he did stuff to begin with and has to have Wolfy show him when he is not doing it right!

Sure I am glad they are touring with Dave. Even without bassplayer, it is still something we never ever thought in our wildest dreams would happen.

So IS IT SO GODDAMNED HARD TO GET THE VAN HALEN FAMILY LAWYERS TO BUY UP ALL THE PRO-SHOT CONCERTS IN EXISTENCE AND RELEASE JUST ONE OF THEM?

:lmao:

I somehow dont think we can throw this line of questioning !
Even if its what we feel...

Here...the polite nutshell version:

Is Ed ever going to release any pro-shot shows from 1978-1984 time frame on DVD? That is what the fans want more than anything else.

That plus new music, and I reckon we can all finally relax over this
saga which seems to have been going on most my life ! lol...

I'll throw your polite version at him. I know he is in the middle of getting
married so he may not be dropping in everyday at the moment.

He's a good guy, many of you know him well and just between, you, me
and the gatepost, he has never given me wrong info. Dunno who he
knows but he has been spot on accurate over the last few years.

People soil their diapers way too soon nowadays!

Sad but probably true!

Hey Mark, you are right about the new music thing. Want some of that too. The only other thing I could ask for is impossible. Bring bassplayer back.

Oh well. I am just happy Dave is back. Could be worse.

Brethren and Sistren,

I'll pay someone just to get the original bass player back into the fucking Guitar Hero!!!! Wolfgang wasn't even a cum stain yet when the Edward's sleeveless dice shirt made its debut... fuck!!!!

But I did buy that Frankenstrat Guitar Hero plate for the guitar, will let you know if my playing improves... maybe I should get the Edward signature sneakers too....

That is all.
