Van Halen @ Olho Nu (Edward Van Halen guitars, a prototype by Gibson) (http://www.olho.nu/van-halen/gear/evh_gibson_evh-prototype_81685642.htm)

By the way, this is a great Van Halen site for infomation.

The guitar looks pretty cool. Gibson sent him this after he parted ways with Kramer. It must have gotten some stamp of approval: check out his signature. That trem almost looks like an early Kahler of sorts, to boot... That neck pickup looks like a P-90. Not that Ed would think about using it...

I don't know. What do you guys think? Would you buy this is they sold it?

I would not buy it.
But I'm a bassist

I think it looks a lot like a Kramer that Ed would have used during his 5150 heyday. My favorite guitar that Ed used was actually the 5150 guitar.

But anyway. It looks pretty neat. It's basically bare meat and bones for a guitar, like Ed would approve of.

I'm sick of Edward and his stupid fucking guitars. At this point, pick up anything off the shelf and play it, you striped poser biatch.

I'm gonna disagree with that... when's the last time you saw EVH playing a guitar with a rosewood/ebony fingerboard? Seriously, that guitar is ugly. Why would Gibson try to make a Kramer knock-off? That's just dumb.

Apparently it comes with a Dave Roth stand to prop it up...

Doesn't Gibson still own Kramer anyway? :umm:

My favorite line. ".....and has no particular design or finish; that would have been decided if Edward had joined the team"

Not much of a prototype. Here you go Ed, it'll be a signature model, but there's no particular design or finish. You know, it's like Seinfeld. It's a show about nothing.

He had a lot on his plate in 1985....like losing his mind

Ugly guitar...though it would have been cool to hear him use the P-90

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Ed thinks he's 007 and we are on a need to know and see basis when it comes to anything Mission Van Halen.

The only thing top secret about Ed is Wolfies diet: Wolfie ate Mike, and the other guy is a look alike.

I know they own them now, but did Gibson own Kramer in 1985? I thought this was a semi-recent thing?

They bought out Kramer Guitars in 2004, I think. They were later made by a now-defunct company called MusicYo.

But they didn't own Kramer then.

Sorry, that guitar looks fucking stupid. Not to mention the idiocy of claiming it is a Ed Van Halen model of ANY kind. If I were him and it were sent to me, I would have got out the chainsaw again and turned it into firewood to burn in the fireplace at the Coldwater Canyon house.

I had a similar Gibson back in '89. It was named Q-100.
Exactly the same bodyshape(designed by Larrivee i think), a Dirty Fingers pickup and a tune-o-matic bridge.
It had a Custom Shop Edition-stamp on the back of the headstock just like this.
The guitar wasn't any good at all... a friend of mine has it now but he never uses it...
Whatever! :-)

I believe they bought Kramer in 99, and had Samick make the first batch.

They sold thru Gibson's site musicyo.com, but the necks were shit.

Then they contracted with a guy in Ohio named John Hill who redid the necks, then started building the necks.. and I think Gibson dicked him over so he went to Florida to work for Dean Guitar in their new USA custom shop.

Maybe he'll return to Ohio in the bad economy, and pick up where he left off who knows.

Ed's new wife should start selling striped dildonics.

What's a "dildonic" - something a gay reindeer wears 'round his neck to attract Santa?

uhuhuhhuuhuhuh
