Me too but don't say that to them.

I did and they weren't too happy... :)

Saw them open for AC/DC at Long Beach Arena in 1990 or 1991. Was so blown away I went right out and bought "Blackout In The Red Room".
Still love their early albums to this day.

'Wasted In America' is a chronically underrated record - 'Blackout...' is hailed as a minor classic, but Love/Hate were more than a one trick pony....

I got WIA soon after BITRR, and like it just as much. They were too good to be a top-level band. They were not lame enough, and did not suck, so they were unable to get to the upper echelons.

The writing was on the wall when the record company asked them for a ballad like Poison and White Lion had #1s with and they came up with 'Don't Fuck With Me(and I won't fuck with you)'.

Genius! :D

The funny thing about that stunt is that no one noticed for hours that he was up there.

He nearly froze to death... :)

Again apparently the record company were mad with them instead of playing it for publicity.

No they don't.

Their most famous song Blackout is maybe one of the least interesting.

They were far more rhythmic than other bands around, alot of their stuff is in unusual time signatures and their arrangements were second to none. There are 3 minute songs on WIA with 9 different sections.

Genius.

Try this

What's horrible about it? No posing or hairspray and they use the same 3 chords Love/Hate use...

Seriously dude, they're a kick ass band. Check out more of their stuff.
If you dig straight ahead kick ass R&R you might like 'em.

Agreed - Warrior Soul an outstanding metal band. Political before Rage Against The Machine made it trendy, and full of fury. 'Salutations From the Ghetto Nation', 'Drugs, God And the New Republic' and 'Last Decade Dead Century' were albums before their time, and there's not a dud on them. If a band that inventive, that passionate and that relentless were to form today, I would need to change my boxers.

Saw Warrior Soul open for Queensryche at Thomas Mack Arena in Vegas Thanksgiving weekend of 1991. Being an arena, sound quality was not that great, and had never heard their stuff.
I recall not being too impressed, but on the other hand, they were not bad, I just did not know any of their stuff.

Never mention those stupid fuckers Rage Against the Machine in a Love / Hate thread, ever again.

We used to spit beer at 'em when they could even beg to do a gig at Coconut Teaszer.

Love/Hate were a peer band that made it to getting a label deal, that made some of us other bands feel like we too could make it.

I'll always remember the whole thing, how they started, how they happened, how they got treated by the label, how they languished and disintegrated.

I love those guys, admire every one of them. Even Householder for trying to fill in for Jon E, admirable guy.. they could have been a national act.

Why didn't they take it to the next level once they got signed?
Why did the bass player continue doing fingerpaint album covers>WTF?
Why didn't Jizzy leave to lead Van Halen, Skid Row, or a zillion other national acts?

Trust me people: I've never seen a band with more charisma in their early days tear up a stage, and I'd seen Van Halen do backyard parties. Something was definately there that didn't translate to national status when they got signed, and it's such a travesty you have no idea if you hadn't seen them in the club days.

At least Jizzy and Skid are...

Quick overview of 2009, Well, this year we played nine shows. The current line-up is Jizzy, skid, darren & Chili. We are really good I think because Jizzy is full on pro and so is Chili our drummer; Darren and I are in the strait world and when we get to go out - it's on, we go for it big time.

Jon E. can only play US gigs...legal issues - and Joey Gold has pussed out on most reunion shows.

I dig Love/Hate. im pleased to see others have heard of them too (genuinly never met another fan). didnt they tour with skid row in the late 80's and blow em off the stage?. I love why do you think they call it dope, funky bass at the start.definately good time music.Wasted in america always made me smile. Happy hour is another one of my fav's.Thats a pretty heavy song, someone should post it ;)

Just one of the tonnes of Sunset Strip bands. I gotta admit that "Blackout" is catchy as fuck but that's pretty much about it. There was the reason they didn't make it.

When I was at Love/Hate shows your parents were listening to fiddle songs about how Lech Wałęsa might one day get them a vote or a record player. :)

Well I wouldn't say The Beatles were just one of a thousand bands in Liverpool in the sixties.

Well but it's not the thing what you'd say about them. The thing is your logic is just plain stupid, if you say I can't talk about the stuff that came out about the time I was born.

Seshmeister
08-08-2010, 06:05 PM
I didn't say you couldn't talk about it I was just coming up with a logical reason why you were so completely wrong. :)

They may not have been the biggest band in the world but the people that did like them often liked them a lot. They had a really strong loyal fan base in both the UK and the West coast. There was a special atmosphere at live shows with crowds going crazy. This did not happen with your typical 'sunset strip' band.

Yeah right... starting shit by calling Love/Hate an average band when, in fact, they were just another L.A. band that never really made it.

You guys are funny.
