Yeah that was pretty crazy when it first surfaced to the mainstream trading circles in dvd form at jamtothis a few years ago. A lot of hoarders were pretty butt hurt and crying as this was a NFT(not for trade) show. The best was Lou vs Shawn(aka vhlive aka stagefrightlive aka newsjunkie). It was a BTB production.

About a week prior to the upload at JTT I got it in the mail with no return address, just a note saying to share it. Jerry "On Fire" also got one of these dvds and he put it up at JTT. It got pulled from JTT, then put back up.

WOW. That was awesome! Why the hell didn't MTV make a 2 hour documentary and share this back in the day?

I thought that was the whole point, not just "oh we'll put one kid in as a prize" I thought we'd all get to see what goes on when you win this Lost Weekend?

So far back as I recall, this arguement on who's the bad guy for letting this out to the traders' circle goes back to 2002. Finally I get to see it.

What's the big deal? If Viacom were smart, they'd broadcast it in one segment the right way.

To an outsider some of these people appeared to be bizarre like a bunch of social misfit butterfly collectors getting into fistfights over the shade of a dot on a wing or something.

To some it seemed more about the kudos amongst a group hierachy and being a completist than the music itself. Whenever it was starting to spread too much to DDLR I would post a thread saying something like 'Could someone post mp3s of the best Van Halen show from the late 70s, I only want the best one and don't have much disk space?' and then giggle at how annoyed they would get about that on every level. :D

To be fair it looked like Lou was on the right side in this case thread ableit in his usual charming fashion... :)

Never understood why security was holding people back from putting their fucking hands in the air, I'm sure it was part of the way Dave wanted the video shot....

I tell ya though, I never get tired watching that clip when they're jamming ATBL.... The crowd is going nuts, the audio is outstanding, the lighting platform is down to stage level with the huge 1 9 8 4 flashing....

Not too many CVH videos show how big VH was in '84 like that one does.....

Yeah it's an oustanding little clip especially getting to see what it looks and sounds like from their point of view.

The backstage party footage is just a bit weird to look at now. Everyone is so young and just so well..1980s. :)

I would have liked to have seen the version where the would be groupie after getting ignored by Alex at 4:40 then in turn gets ignored by the other three one by one as she gets more and more pissed off with her little friend yapping away furiously to her about how ugly all the other girls are.

Sesh is right on about the backstage party - it is kinda weird. Even when Al comes in nobody really seems to care (I know it's only Al, but no reaction?). No smokin' hot chicks, no donkeys, no drunken midgets, no nothing. Just a bunch of ugly fuckers you wouldn't want to hang out with - oh, and the lead singer from Autograph, whooopppee. I kept expecting to see Dave bust in wearing his Zorro outfit, two hot chicks in tow, slinging Jack all over the place. Looked more like an office Christmas party before anybody got loaded.

Cool video though - especially the shots from the stage.
