Didn't want to start a new thread just for this little tidbit, and we can throw any other random NFL news into it as well. In any event, ESPN is talking about a trade between Washington and Tennessee for the under-producing and unmotivated Albert Haynesworth...

Albert Haynesworth trade in the works?

We were hearing buzz Monday about the Redskins again revisiting the possibility of trading defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth, who has continued to stir frustration in the organization.

ESPN is reporting that the Redskins and Tennessee Titans, Haynesworth's former team, are in trade talks. This is not surprising based on what team sources told us on Saturday about Haynesworth's performance in the preseason finale. People who reviewed film of the game described Haynesworth's play as "awful," saying he showed little effort and did not follow the principles of the 3-4 defensive scheme.

Haynesworth also angered coaches when he did not attend a halftime meeting to discuss defensive adjustments and review photos of the Arizona Cardinals' blocking schemes. In fairness to Haynesworth, one of his teammates said, the two-time all-pro is especially intense during games and has never attended halftime meetings because he prefers to remain focused on his duties. The teammate added that although Haynesworth did not appear especially sharp on film, his performance, in large part, could be attributed to the fact that Haynesworth is a nine-year veteran who participated in 49 of 55 plays during the fourth, and largely meaningless, preseason game.

On Monday, a league source surmised that the Redskins have resumed trade discussions with at least one team because Haynesworth participated in few plays during practice Sunday and Monday as the team began preparations to face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night at FedEx Field. A team source said Haynesworth met with Coach Mike Shanahan in private after practice Monday at Redskins Park.

Shanahan, who has player-personnel control, passed on an opportunity to trade Haynesworth before the draft, a league source said. But Shanahan his reached his limit with the ongoing Haynesworth drama and seems ready to make a move. Owner Daniel Snyder, however, already has paid Haynesworth $32 million for essentially one season of work, and he may want a major say in what happens with Haynesworth.

How likely is it the Haynesworth will be traded? It depends on whether the Titans are willing to offer enough compensation to allay Snyder's concerns about having paid Haynesworth all that money -- which includes a $21-million bonus on April 1 -- and having received so little in return.

I tell people here in Tennessee that the Titans will never win the Super Bowl and this is an example why. Here is a guy who tanked it in Nashville until the last year of his contract then lit everyone up. Then, he left for more money, and was a complete flop in Washington. Pouts during training camp and this is the kind of player the Titans want.

Idiots...

Parcells abdicates Dolphins to Ireland

By Tim Graham

Davie, Florida - The Miami Dolphins have announced Bill Parcells will have a diminished role with the organization moving forward, with general manager Jeff Ireland taking over football operations.

The Dolphins released a two-sentence statement Tuesday afternoon:

Effective immediately, Jeff Ireland will assume full control over all aspects and decisions in regard to the Miami Dolphin football team and support staff. This was the intent of the structure put in place in the past. Bill Parcells will remain with the club on a daily consultant basis.

Tuesday's development might not impact the Dolphins much. Nobody really was sure how much influence Parcells had before, and there's no reason to think he couldn't have just as much in his new role. It depends on how much he wants his voice to be heard and how much Ireland will want to listen.

Parcells was named executive vice president of football operations in late 2007. He has since rebuilt the Dolphins with his philosophies, helping them rebound from 1-15 to AFC East champions a year later.

Parcells has been the Wizard of Oz, pulling strings from behind a curtain. He was rarely seen or heard from since he joined the Dolphins. He addressed the South Florida media twice, at his introductory news conference and again as a contractual sponsorship obligation to Gatorade.

He didn’t travel to road games, but he was present at workouts, watching from a golf cart when the Dolphins practiced outside or pulling up a chair when they were in their practice bubble.

you are in the endzone, with control of the ball, two feet and an ass on the ground, and it isn't a td? bullshit! the fuckers that fly the last five yards to the pilon, touch it with the ball and then it goes out of their hand or bouncing off the turf when they hit is still a td. i understand the refs "complied" with the rule, but it is not a "legit" call? this should be fixed soon, but it won't help detroit have their first road win since 07.

The thing is with Dallas, they seem to perpetually make the same stupid mistakes that end up costing them games, which is very similar to Miami. The Dolphins barely won that game yesterday, against the weakest team in the division. I can't wait for us to play the NFC Vikings next week. :(

That's true. They have maybe the best collection of talent in the league, yet continuously shoot themselves in the foot with stupid penalties and play down to the level of the competition they are playing that week. It all goes back to the coaching, and obviously Wade Phillips didn't have this team prepared to play this week. Resting all of the starters for the last preseason game probably had more than a little to do with it.

According to CNN.com, TV Azteca reporter Ines Sainz was surprised that the Jets are being investigated after her visit:

"I was surprised to wake up on Sunday and have a call from the NFL , saying that they wanted to talk to me about what had happened at the Jets; and I asked… what happened?" Sainz told TV Azteca. "And they said well there is a pretty powerful accusation of harassment and then it was at that point I realized the magnitude of what had happened. "

She knew some of the players were joking with her, and in her own words, "I wasn't offended." Nonetheless, the AWSM (Association for Women in Sports Media) and the NFL are right to investigate. At least, we will surely find out whether the allegations are baseless or not. In the end, though, I think all this really stems from some MoFo writing something on a certain blog based on a beat writer's twitter posts without checking any facts first, even though the writer clarified it soon after that incredible blogger posted his blog.

Here's how it went down, for those of you who until now are lucky enough to be unaware of it. On Saturday, Bart Hubbuch posted on twitter that the DBs were having fun overthrowing the football towards Sainz (a la the Corona commercial). MoFo then posted on his blog that the Jets were "acting like frat-boys" etc. (If you don't know who he is, he is that emeffer with the M.F. initials. The mention of his actual name sickens me.) Hubbuch then responded and clarified it that it was all in good fun, and even Ines was laughing about it. The NFL then decided to look into it.

I'm not saying that she DESERVES it, I'm just saying it's natural for a man to get all lathered up when he sees an attractive woman dressed provocatively as she is in the above photo, and if you factor in that she's in a locker room filled with horny grown men with their testosterone pumping, these kinds of things are bound to happen. It's like dangling a big, juicy, ribeye steak around a hungry dog's head.

As crass and sexist as it sounds, LT is essentially correct. Read some of the headlines concerning NFL players who have brushes with the law. These more often than not take place in so-called gentleman's clubs, where women are pretty much treated as objects. Why would that mentality be any different in a locker room?

Brethren and Sistren,

Men will be men and women will be women. In high testosterone environments, just dress conservatively if you're a women. Nothing wrong with showing off your sexiness, but context is important. There's no need for tits and ass to hang out like that especially in a locker-room environment. At the same time, no need for guys to have their jung swinging around, etc. Just common sense. Doll up for the camera, fine. But don't go into the locker-room like that. (The porn and raping comments a little much, dontcha' think? - That's my Sarah Palin accent...)

That is all.

Brandon Jacobs Throws Helmet Into Stands

INDIANAPOLIS — New York running back Brandon Jacobs apologized for unintentionally throwing his helmet into the stands in the third quarter Sunday night in the Giants' loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Jacobs, who has lost his starting position to Ahmad Bradshaw, apparently tried to throw his helmet down, but instead, it flew into the stands. Security personnel had to retrieve the helmet from the fans while Jacobs appeared to be explaining to coach Tom Coughlin what happened.

"I was frustrated and went to throw it down on the ground, and it got caught on my finger and went into (the stands)," he said. "I apologize for that. It was frustration on my part."

Jacobs had three carries for 8 yards in the first half and had just one rush for no yards in the third period. It was just one of many things that went wrong for the Giants in the 38-14 loss.

Coughlin said he didn't see the incident.

"From what I understand, he lost his poise and did something he shouldn't have done, and if someone was hurt, then we would all feel bad about that," Coughlin said.

Jacobs played sparingly after the incident, but Coughlin said it was because the Giants were behind and in hurry-up mode. Coughlin also said the 6-foot-4, 264-pound Jacobs spent too much time running laterally.

"We've seen too much of that, that east and west stuff," Coughlin said. "Find someplace to go and get up. Get up north."

Broncos Kenny McKinley found dead at home

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead in his home Monday in an apparent suicide.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said authorities were called to McKinley's home in Centennial at 3:35 p.m. local time and found his body in the second-floor master bedroom. He said detectives believe McKinley, 23, was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Robinson said authorities were called by a female friend of McKinley's who discovered the body after returning from an errand with his child. The sheriff declined to say if authorities found a suicide note.

The Broncos are once again faced with the prospect of moving on without a fallen teammate, writes ESPN.com's Bill Williamson. Blog

"It's still part of our investigation and probably nothing we'll talk about right now," he said.

McKinley's death is the latest in a series for tragedies for the Broncos in recent years. Cornerback Darrent Williams was slain in a drive-by shooting on New Year's Day 2007 and three months later backup running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in St. Louis.

"Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley," team owner Pat Bowlen said in a statement. "He was part of the Broncos' family and will be greatly missed by our organization. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny's family and friends."

The Broncos said coach Josh McDaniels would meet with the media on Tuesday.

In a statement, McDaniels said: "Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

McKinley was a second-year pro who was on the team's injured reserve list. He played in eight games as a rookie in 2009 with seven kick returns for 158 yards before going on injured reserve with a left knee injury on Dec. 29.

He recovered and participated in the team's offseason workouts but got hurt again during the first week of training camp and was placed on IR with a different left knee injury on Aug. 5.

McKinley's agent Andrew Bondarowicz told ESPN.com's Bill Williamson that he spoke with the wideout last week but that there were no obvious signs of despair.

"Kenny was a pretty easy-going guy," Bondarowicz said. "I do know that being on the injured reserve was hard on him and it weighed on him ... but there was nothing to suggest anything like this. It's a shock that caught us by surprise."

McKinley was a fifth-round draft choice out of South Carolina in 2009. He attended South Cobb High School in Austell, Ga.

McKinley remains South Carolina's all-time leading receiver with 207 catches for 2,781 yards. He came back to the school earlier this month, watched the Gamecocks beat Georgia 17-6 and visited with his college coach, Steve Spurrier.

"Had a wonderful smile just like he always did," Spurrier said.

The news of McKinley's death spread quickly at the end of South Carolina's practice Monday. Players who normally sprint off the field upbeat walked slowly with their heads down.

"Kenny was certainly one of my all-time favorite players. It's hard to figure out why it happened like this," Spurrier said.

Several Broncos players were attending a fundraiser Monday night in honor of Williams.

Cornerback Champ Bailey and former NFL star John Lynch headlined the wine-tasting VIP event to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver, home of the Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center.

Bailey told The Associated Press last week that it was an opportunity for fans and friends to celebrate the life of the player they called D-Will, especially after so much attention was focused on the trial earlier this year in which Willie Clark, 26, was convicted of first-degree murder of Williams after a confrontation at a nightclub. Clark was sentenced in April to life in prison plus 1,152 years.

"It's time to remember the way D-Will lived and not the way he died," Bailey said last week.

The Broncos, who beat Seattle 31-14 on Sunday, hustled out of their Dove Valley practice facilities Monday night, many of them headed to the charity event unaware of the latest tragedy to befall the franchise.

Players leaving the event said they didn't want to comment on McKinley's death.

At McKinley's home in a subdivision in the southern Denver suburbs, a bouquet of flowers wrapped in purple was propped against the door Monday night.

Braylon Edwards charged with DUI

New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Tuesday morning.

Police in New York City told the New York Post that they arrested Edwards around 5:15 a.m. and that he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16. New York's legal limit it .08.

Edwards was scheduled to be arraigned later Tuesday. He was photographed at a charity event for teammate Jerricho Cotchery's foundation on Monday evening.

He has not made a comment about the arrest.

Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said the team is "disappointed in Braylon's actions" and noted that Edwards is aware of the team's safe ride program.

"We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures," Tannenbaum said in a statement.

Edwards' arrest comes two days after he caught a TD in the Jets' 28-14 win against the Patriots. Edwards was penalized for taunting after the touchdown.

On Monday, coach Rex Ryan said Edwards' penalty was "selfish" and kept him from earning a game ball after the win.

Edwards pleaded no contest in January to a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an incident when he was accused of hitting Edward Givens, a friend of NBA star LeBron James, outside a Cleveland nightclub. The NFL opted not to suspend him for that incident under the league's personal-conduct policy.

The Jets already have one receiver, Santonio Holmes, who is serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on substance abuse.

Saints' Bush breaks leg, to miss six weeks

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush has a broken bone in his right leg and is expected to be sidelined six weeks, a league source told the NFL Network on Tuesday.

Bush was injured while trying to field a punt in the Saints' 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.

"I tried to recover it (the muffed punt) and someone took my leg out," Bush told reporters after the game. "I don't know what happened or how it happened, I just got taken out."

He left Candlestick Park on crutches and said he did not know the extent of the injury.

"I just know it hurts," Bush said. "It's just in the middle (of the leg) but we'll see what happens."

The Saints said they would have no comment on the injury on Tuesday.

The injury comes less than a week after Bush forfeited the Heisman Trophy he won in 2005 while competing for the University of Southern California.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) penalized the school after reports that Bush, in violation of collegiate rules, accepted money and other benefits from marketing agents.

Bush has denied any wrongdoing, saying he returned the trophy given annually to the best player in college football because he wanted to end the controversy.

Michael Vick gets starting nod in Philly

ESPN.com news services

PHILADELPHIA -- Eagles coach Andy Reid says Michael Vick will be the team's starting quarterback

Reid made the decision Tuesday, a day after saying Kevin Kolb would start Sunday at Jacksonville. Kolb missed the last six quarters because of a concussion, and Vick played well in his absence.

The decision to go with Vick over Kolb is a permanent move and is not concussion related, a source told ESPN NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

A senior Eagles official told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio that the decision to start Vick is "just a football decision, he is just playing too well."

Vick threw for 175 yards and one touchdown and ran for 103 yards in the 27-20 season-opening loss to the Packers. He had 284 yards passing and two TDs in a 35-32 win at Detroit on Sunday.

Kolb started two games in his first three seasons before he became the team's No. 1 quarterback after Donovan McNabb was traded to Washington. Kolb struggled in the first half against Green Bay.

Holy crap...remember that joke how NFL really stands for Not For Long? The Bills QB Trent Edwards went from being the starter to the back up and then fired, all in the same week!

Bills release QB Trent Edwards

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Chan Gailey needed to see Ryan Fitzpatrick put some life into Buffalo’s anemic offense just once before deciding Trent Edwards was expendable.

"After the way that Fitz played yesterday, I feel very confident about the direction we’re going," Buffalo’s first-year coach said Monday, a day after the Bills (0-3) were beaten 38-30 by the New England Patriots [team stats]. "Trent did the best he could, and he’s a great young man and I wish him the best."

The Bills waived Edwards in a surprising move Monday, a few weeks after Gailey said he saw "light at the end of the tunnel" with Edwards as his starter.

With Fitzpatrick the starter, Brian Brohm moves into the backup role.

Although the Bills lost Sunday, Fitzpatrick picked up the offense with 247 yards passing and 374 total yards - producing more offense in one game than Edwards managed in his two starts to open the season.

Edwards was in his fourth season after being selected by the team in the third round of the 2007 draft and eventually replaced J.P. Losman midway through his rookie season. He went 14-18 as a starter.

Edwards was benched the day after going 11 of 18 for 102 yards and two interceptions in a 34-7 loss at Green Bay on Sept. 19. He showed little improvement a week after going 18 of 34 for 139 yards and a touchdown in a 15-10 loss to Miami.

It marked the second time he lost the starting job to Fitzpatrick in consecutive seasons.

Gailey wouldn’t place all the credit for the offensive improvement on the quarterback change, but noted the unit was more effective under Fitzpatrick.

"It wasn’t just one thing, but I think that Fitz did go in and play fairly well," Gailey said even though Fitzpatrick threw two interceptions.

Players were caught by surprise, many learning of Edwards’ release as it was broadcast in the locker room on a TV sportscast before team meetings.

"He was our starting quarterback two weeks ago, and something like this happens, it’s got to be a shock to everybody," receiver Roscoe Parrish said. "We have to move on. We can’t dwell on that."

Fitzpatrick was informed of the decision by Gailey, but that didn’t make it any less surprising.

"I think it caught everybody off-guard. Trent’s a well-respected and well-liked guy in the locker room," Fitzpatrick said. "Personally for me, this one’s tough because we spent so much time together. He’ll rebound and move on from this. And we’ve got to move forward."

Edwards was spotted briefly outside the locker room shaking hands with several players. Edwards then went into the nearby equipment room and did not comment on his release.

Edwards’ release marks a sudden reversal for a player who earned Gailey’s confidence by beating out Fitzpatrick and Brohm in an offseason competition. Edwards failed to build on that trust by reverting to his familiar hesitant form which, a year ago, led Bills fans to label him as "Trent-ative" and "Captain Checkdown."

Gailey acknowledged he is open to second-guessing after how quickly Edwards went from starter to being cut.

"I can see where people would look at that and wonder what’s going on," he said. "I felt that as we looked and evaluated everything that we had seen up to this point that this was the direction for the future of our football team."

The Bills plays the New York Jets [team stats] (2-1) on Sunday.

The Bears didn't beat Green Bay last night, Green Bay beat themselves. 17 penalties and a fumble in the last couple of minutes of the game when the Packers were driving for a possible TD or fg to win the game? Instead, the Bears recover the fumble in good field position and drive for the winning field goal, which they were put in position for by a huge pass interference penalty. Pete's Bro, your team shot themselves in the foot last night.

Jaguars WR Osgood OK after attack

Jaguars WR Kassim Osgood had to jump for his life on Monday night when he leapt out of a second-floor window to escape a armed intruder who attacked him and a 19-year-old Jaguars cheerleader, according to police.

Osgood was watching television late Monday night with Mackenzie Rae Putnal when the armed intruder, Putnal's ex-boyfriend, entered wielding a gun. The intruder pistol-whipped Osgood in the head after pulling Putnal by her hair and hitting her with the gun and his fists.

Putnal escaped to her parents' home downstairs and grabbed a gun. Putnal exchanged fire with the intruder but shots from both guns missed.

Osgood jammed a chair under the door and jumped out a window to the lawn below. He ran to a neighbor's house to call police. Osgood sustained minor bruises during the attack and while fleeing.

The Florida Times-Union first reported the incident.

"He's fine," Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said. "I'm aware of it. I really can't comment on that whole deal. He's doing OK."

Osgood is in his first year with the Jaguars after signing as a free agent this past offseason. He has made three Pro Bowls as a special-teams player — all with the Chargers — and has a 24-yard TD catch this season.

I think he is closer to 5 than 10 but that is debatable. As a Cowboys fan, I am a little bias, but he is certainly better than any QB Dallas has had since Aikman. I know that is not saying a lot but there is truly only a handful of QB,s that a would considered trading him for.

I thought Romo had something a couple years ago. He still has a LOT of weapons, but he isn't getting it done. Makes me think he is like Jeff Garcia. He lit it up when he had T.O. Romo lit it up when he had T.O. Maybe something to that.

Dallas needs Jerry Jones out of the locker room and a good take charge coach. Until then, they will be like the Al Davis run Raiders.

Ochocinco's cereal box lists sex line instead of charity

CHICAGO (Reuters) – The telephone number pasted on boxes of cereal named for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco was supposed to be for a charity -- but mistakenly directed callers to a sex line, the player's agent said on Thursday.

"The wrong number was given by the Feed the Children charity," Ochocinco's agent Robert Bailey said. "It's a shame because it's a good cause."

The outspoken Ochocinco said he was confident the mistake -- an 800 area code was substituted for 888 -- would be corrected by PBL Sports, the marketing company behind "Ochocincos" cereal.

A portion of the $5 price of each box goes to the Feed The Children organization, according to PBL's website.

In a tweet, the football player had directed fans to his own website and urged them to order his cereal, adding, "Start your day with a lil suga!!!"

To be fair to Lions fans, it isn't like Detroit is getting blown out in these games. They have been damned competitive in every one. Considering they have been on the road for three of the four, it's all that more impressive.

Yeah, maybe they are starting to turn the corner a little.

You know Detroit is the only team left in the NFC that has never played in the Super Bowl. There was a time when I thought it impossible that teams like Arizona and New Orleans would ever play in the Super Bowl, but there have been Bowl-less teams in the Super Bowl back to back years, so there is hope that Detroit may get there some day soon.

Fourth-and-1, just probably a transition I referred to earlier in the red zone offense there. Just with the play selection, I thought it was a good call. Frankly, was probably a down late. I wish I would’ve called the naked (bootleg) in hindsight on third down. It was all play calling. The way our defense was playing after taking a timeout, it really resulted in getting the field goal in the next series. To me I really think it’s a wash. But, the way our defense was playing, where the ball was at, I thought it was the right decision.

n recent weeks we've discussed the NFL's inane definition of a catch, the awful rule about calling a timeout before a field goal and how the league reprimands too many players for having fun. We've written about bad coaching and even worse officiating. We've criticized the potential 18-game schedule and wondered what life would be like if the NFL has a work-stoppage next year.
Even though it's the most lucrative sports league in the world and we love it more than anything, sometimes it seems like the NFL isn't doing much right. A decision today may either advance that thinking or reverse it, depending on your opinion.

The league announced that Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Marisa Miller will become the new spokesperson for the NFL. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Miller's first responsibility will be to help promote the upcoming San Francisco 49ers-Denver Broncos game in London.
Either you appreciate the fact that the NFL is using a model to promote the sport or you're baffled why the league would choose now -- right in the middle of the Brett Favre scandal -- to announce this move.

Because of that, and the uproar that ensured, Sainz wants to stay away from the locker room. On Thursday at a news conference near Hollywood, she explained her decision:
"I'm not going into the locker rooms anymore. It's not a good place right now for me. I don't want to be in there."
I need to wait one month to work again because I don't want to be the focus. I'm not looking for that kind of publicity. It affects my career and development in the States."
[Video: See more of reporter Ines Sainz]
Sainz's first assignment will be to interview Pittsburgh Steelers players next week. (Interesting choice, given that Ben Roethlisberger(notes) is returning from his own personal issues as well.) Following that, she will return to speak with the Jets, an event which will become a media event in itself.

What the fuck is going on with San Diego? They usually start slow, but the Raiders beat them for the first time in 9 years, and yesterday they fell to the St. Louis Lambs!!

Police: Alcohol, drugs not suspected in crash involving former NFL star linebacker Junior Seau

By Associated Press/Sun Sentinel (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/sns-ap-fbn-junior-seau-crash,0,7623377.story)

12:24 AM EDT, October 19, 2010

CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) — Former NFL star linebacker Junior Seau drove off a seaside cliff and was hospitalized with minor injuries Monday, less than nine hours after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

The 12-time Pro Bowler's white Cadillac SUV was found on the beach about 100 feet below the roadside, said Carlsbad police Lt. Kelly Cain. Cain said it wasn't a sheer cliff but was a significant, rough slope.

Carlsbad police dispatcher Matthew Pinell said late Monday alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash "at this time."

Seau told investigators he drove off the cliff because he fell asleep.

Cain said the lack of skid marks leading up to where the vehicle plunged off the cliff supported Seau's statement.

"If you have somebody fall asleep, that's the kind of exit you will have," Cain told the North County Times.

Murray "Moose" Lee told the newspaper he saw the crash and was standing just north of the spot with no guardrail where the SUV left the road.

"It went whipping right by me," Lee said. "It didn't even look real."

Seau's 25-year-old live-in girlfriend told authorities that Seau assaulted her during an argument Sunday night at his Oceanside home, according to Oceanside police. She appeared to have minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.

Seau, 41, was arrested outside his home about two hours after police arrived. He wasn't home when authorities got there, but they asked him to return when he called his girlfriend.

Seau posted bail and was released from the San Diego County jail in Vista.

"At this point we think he's fine, but we really don't have any comment," said Richard Doan, who answered the cell phone of Bette Hoffman, who works for Seau's foundation. "There are no injuries, but he seems to be a little shaken up."

Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Ohmstede declined to comment on Seau's condition, and it was unclear whether he remained hospitalized Monday night.

Seau was a star linebacker with the University of Southern California before going to the San Diego Chargers with the fifth pick overall in the 1990 draft. He led the Chargers to the Super Bowl following the 1994 season and remained in San Diego until being traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2003.

He left football briefly in August 2006 after 13 seasons with San Diego and three with Miami. He signed with the New England Patriots four days later and started 14 of the 27 games he played for them over two seasons. He retired after the 2007 season, then came out of retirement for the final four games in 2008. Seau played seven regular-season games in 2009, all as a backup, and made 15 tackles.

Good for you, man, but I'm pissed as hell at this team right now! They're ranked like 3rd in the league in offense and 4th in defense, yet they sit a 1-4 because they lead the league in penalties and turnovers. And I'm sorry, but Tony Romo isn't a championship caliber qb, and they will NEVER make it back to the Super Bowl as long as he's the team qb. Tony Romo is nothing more than a second rate Danny White that can't handle pressure situations and plays his worst in big games. I believe the team has the players and talent in place to be Super Bowl contenders, but they have a severe lack of discipline, lackluster, third-rate coaches, and a perennial choke artist qb that nearly always commits turnovers when the game is on the line. Dallas needs to shore up their offensive line, find a mentally tough, decent qb, and a coach that can get this team focused and playing up to their full potential and isn't a laid back, Jerry Jones yes-man hand puppet.

Second, I think with the right coach, Tony Homo can get the job done. Of course, he might be another Jay Cutler clone. I don't believe personel is the issue with this team. I believe it is Wade Phillips. He is a horrible coach. I hope Jerry Jones keeps him!

I understand your frustration. This team is underachieving big time, and I believe it is Wade Phillips fault totally for the lack of discipline. Where I disagree with you, is Tony Romo. I don't think he is the problem at all. He is definitely the best QB Dallas has had since Aikman. All the QB'S the Boys went through during that period, Clint Stoerner, Anthony Wright, Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Drew Henson, Vinny Testeverde, Drew Bledsoe, all made me ill. IMHO there really isn't anyone to replace Romo with, so I'm riding the wave and hoping it gets better. No playoffs this year and HOPEFULLY we will get a real head coach and a new offensive coordinator who knows how to use all the talent we have.

They really are in a shitty position. To play out the string would be unfair to the fans, but at this point there really isn't much to play for other than pride. Wade Phillips Fired

Source: ESPN (http://espn.go.com/blog/sportscenter/post/_/id/91263/wade-phillips-fired)

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones fired coach Wade Phillips on Monday, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Ed Werder.

The move comes less than a year after he was given a two-year contract extension for leading the Cowboys to their first playoff win in over a decade. He will be replaced by offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, the sources said.

The end for Phillips came after a 45-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night extended Dallas' losing streak to five games as the Cowboys -- which began the season with Super Bowl expectations -- fell to 1-7 overall.

Phillips ends his time in Dallas with a 35-23 record, having won two NFC East titles and getting the Cowboys' first playoff victory since 1996. Phillips is 83-65 overall as a head coach.

Jones, who had never fired a coach in-season since purchasing the team in 1989, had said multiple times that Phillips would finish out this season. The owner cited research showing interim coaches are not successful and that was a deterrent for him making the change.

But the Cowboys' five-game slide -- during which they've been outscored 179-107 -- has made things difficult for Jones, who even apologized publicly to fans. In two of the games, Phillips questioned the passion of his team and wasn't sure if he lost them.

Yeah, but look who they were playing and where! The game went exactly the way I expected it to go. I told my brother last night before the start of the 2nd quarter when the game was still scoreless that Dallas was going to lose by at least 20 points, and that it was going to be a blowout once the Packers got going. Was I ever on the money! Then this morning I told him I would be VERY surprised if Wade Phillips didn't get fired today. 2 for 2.

Jones had no choice but to make a change after last week and last night. It was obvious from watching the past couple of games that this team had just quit and wasn't even trying anymore. I groaned when Phillips was hired, and thought he should have been fired two seasons ago after they were blown out by the Eagles in the last game of the season. They had quit the last few games of that season as well. Jason Garrett isn't going to be any better, as he sucks ass as an offensive coordinator. Jones needs to clean house after the season, hire a decent coach after the season, and let the new coach bring in his own staff and let him have a major say in the personnel decisions of the team. Another laid back, yes-man, hand puppet hire like Wade Phillips isn't going to cut it. Dallas needs a hard nosed, disciplinarian type coach that won't take any shit from the players and won't accept less than 100% effort.

HA!

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Cowboys-suffer-domain-name-failure-at-the-worst-?urn=nfl-283761

According to the Dallas Morning News, the team forgot to renew the dallascowboys.com domain, and the site was left blank. The Cowboys' marketing arm, led by one Jerry Jones, Jr., quickly renewed the domain, but that process can take up to two days to go through, and for a website to propagate on a domain - even if it's been there before. The site is up, but up until Tuesday morning, there were people on Twitter reporting that they could still see the "fail" page on certain browsers.
The most alarming aspect of the failure to renew a domain (especially one of this magnitude - only the NFL's official site is a more popular league-approved portal) is the astonishing lack of attention to detail it represents. Domains can be renewed for multiple years at a time, and Network Solutions (or whoever you might establish a domain name with) generally sends multiple e-mail notices as the renewal date draws near to the person listed as the primary website contact. It's a set-it-and-forget-it process that takes about five minutes.
The 1-7 Cowboys team on the field isn't the only one looking for a few wins these days - it's a good bet that the franchise's internet marketing folks have been hearing some unfriendly words this week as well. They're just lucky no rogue Giants, Eagles, or Redskins fans bought the domain and held it hostage, perhaps insisting on Phillips' re-hire as a bargaining chip!

They thought when the season started that they were going to play a home field Super Bowl, and now they are worse than the Browns, Raiders, and Lions! Cowher could probably whip this team into shape and maximize the available talent on the team, but I highly doubt that he will work for someone like Jerry Jones with an ego the size of Texas. I'm pretty sure Cowher will want control of personnel decisions and football operations, and Jerry's ego won't let him take a step back and let someone else make football decisions.

For my fellow Lion fans, some QB information from the Detroit Free Press (http://www.freep.com/section/sports01)

Shaun Hill wore a black cast up to his elbow on his left arm and took all the first-team reps in the open portion of Detroit Lions practice this morning, making it likely he'll start Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills.

Hill has been out since fracturing his left forearm in an Oct. 17 loss to the New York Giants. He used that arm to hand off during practice today and took snaps from the shotgun formation, using both hands to catch the ball.

Drew Stanton worked behind Hill, with starter Matthew Stafford watching from the sidelines because of a separated throwing shoulder, his second of the year.

Guard Stephen Peterman, defensive linemen Cliff Avril and Corey Williams, linebacker Isaiah Ekejiuba and running back Kevin Smith also missed practice today.

Safety C.C. Brown returned after sitting out the Jets game with a knee injury, and cornerback Chris Houston practiced after dislocating his shoulder last week.

http://www.freep.com/article/20101110/SPORTS01/101110047/1049/sports01/Lions-QB-Hill-practices-seems-likely-to-start

Article regarding Stafford

I haven't seen Matthew Stafford's shoulder and wouldn't know what I was looking at if I did, anyway. I suspect my official diagnosis would be "Ewww," with a strong recommendation to "cover that thing up." Then, to make Stafford feel like he got sound medical advice, I would bill him $14 million.

Nonetheless, I did find two people who ... well, who also haven't seen Stafford's shoulder. But they would know what they were looking at, because they are experts in shoulder injuries.

As you probably know, Stafford injured his right shoulder Sunday, two months after injuring that same shoulder in the season opener, and a year after injuring his left shoulder as a rookie. This has led a lot of people to wonder whether Stafford has some sort of shoulder-injuring addiction, or put another way: Is he injury-prone and are the Lions jinxed and why isn't life fair and why do the Steelers get to win all the time and Detroit can't have ONE decent season?

Well, settle down.

"One way or the other, he is going to be fine," said Dr. David Altchek of the Hospital for Special Surgery, who is medical director for the New York Mets and a medical consultant for the NBA. "It's not that bad an injury. I've never seen a quarterback have a career-ending injury of this kind."

Dr. Paul Saluan of the Cleveland Clinic said, although he has not examined Stafford, the most likely scenario is that he is just unlucky. This would jibe with Lions coach Jim Schwartz's comments this week that Stafford's two shoulder injuries this season were unrelated. "I would be willing to bet that 20-30% of quarterbacks in the NFL have had AC separations," Saluan said.

The chances of Stafford being 100% are not great, but let's face it: Nobody is ever 100% in the NFL. If this is a normal case, Stafford should return at something close to his normal physical ability. This injury -- or these two injuries -- should not define his career.

Mlive.com reported that Stafford has a Grade 3 AC separation, which reminds me of a study I read back in 2005 by Dr. Richard Hawkins called "Grade 3 AC Separations and NFL Quarterbacks." It was a riveting piece of literature, full of plot twists and nuance, and I especially loved the part when Eli Manning's shoulder screams that Archie Manning's shoulder always liked Peyton's shoulder better, and ... OK, fine. I didn't actually read it. Saluan told me about it.

Anyway, Hawkins looked at 15 NFL quarterbacks who suffered Grade 3 AC separations. Twelve chose not to undergo surgery, and they missed an average of five games. Three underwent surgery immediately. They missed an average of eight games.

The conclusion? There isn't one, really. Apparently there is some disagreement in the medical profession about whether surgery should be performed on Grade 3 AC separations.

"This is a tricky issue," Altchek said. "It's very individual." Altchek said that the convention used to be to avoid surgery. Now, though, he thinks there is "a subset" of players who should undergo surgery.

The Lions aren't saying much. Their options, though, are pretty clear. They can wait to see how Stafford's shoulder heals without surgery, with the hope that he can return to get some experience at the end of the year. Or they can opt for surgery now.

Either way, I know this is frustrating, but it does not mean Stafford is doomed to spend the rest of his career in hospitals. As the Lions have shown, bad talent can kill a team. Bad luck should go away. We know Stafford has talent. Now he just needs better luck.

Third-string quarterback Drew Stanton said he is getting ready for his second career NFL start Sunday when the Lions play at Buffalo.

"(I'll) go in later today and watch film and prepare as if I'm going to be the starter," Stanton said Tuesday morning. "It doesn't change I think any of our preparation. We're all going to approach it that way."

Coach Jim Schwartz declined to address reports that said QB Matthew Stafford suffered a Grade 3 separated right shoulder Sunday against the Jets. The injury would be slightly worse than the separation he suffered to the same shoulder in the opener that caused him to miss five games.

The Lions and Stafford are waiting for Birmingham, Ala.-based orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews to review the MRI results before determining how to proceed with treatment and rehab. A source familiar with the situation told the Free Press that there was "no other damage" believed to have occurred to Stafford's shoulder.

With backup Shaun Hill still healing from a fractured left forearm, which made him available only to hand off the ball last Sunday, Stanton could get the start.

Players spoke about Stanton as the de facto starter Tuesday and voiced their support for the 2007 second-round pick from Michigan State and Farmington Hills Harrison.

"The thing about Drew is we know Drew's a dog, in a good way," Calvin Johnson said. "He's going to go out there and get the job done, whether it might be pretty or ugly. We're going to stand by him and he's going to stand by us."
He's confident he can do the job

Stanton has not had the easiest road in his NFL career.

The Farmington Hills Harrison product once was thought to be the Lions' quarterback of the future after the team drafted him in the second round of the 2007 draft out of Michigan State. But Stanton's future beyond Sunday, when he could get his second NFL start when the Lions visit Buffalo, is rather hazy.

Stanton is in the final year of his contract. He has played in only nine games, he threw three interceptions last season in his first NFL start, and he made a poor decision to throw on a crucial third down Sunday against the Jets.

With Stafford's separated right shoulder likely to sideline him for Sunday's game and possibly the season, and Hill still healing from a fractured left forearm, the starting job this week appears to be Stanton's, even though he didn't count out the gritty Hill.

"Knowing the type of person that Shaun is," Stanton said Tuesday, "he's probably going to do everything in his power to get back and play."

Stanton did prove to be capable when he entered the game against the New York Giants late in the second quarter after Hill suffered his arm injury. Stanton was 19-for-34 and passed for 222 yards, including an 87-yard touchdown to Calvin Johnson.

Stanton said he was preparing to be the starter this week and was confident in his ability to lead the offense.

" Very confident," Stanton said. "I think that I draw from the strengths of what we do in our (quarterback) room. I've said many times that this is the best quarterback room that I've been around. We depend on each other and we rely on each other for a lot of different things.

"But I think the confidence that comes out of that room is a direct effect of the preparation that we put in throughout the week. We know the weapons we have on offense. It's our job to get the ball in their hands and allow them to make the plays."

The Lions have a high-octane offense with playmakers like Johnson, Nate Burleson, tight end Brandon Pettigrew and running back Jahvid Best. Their 25.4-point average ranks seventh in the NFL. But most of that comes from the passing offense, which ranks eighth with 247.8 yards per game. The rushing offense ranks 30th.

The question will be whether Stanton, a mobile quarterback with a career completion percentage of 52.9%, can power the passing attack against the Bills, whose passing defense ranks sixth.

"We know what Drew can do," right tackle Gosder Cherilus said. "He has a very strong arm and he can run the ball, too. It's our job to execute and make Drew look good and do whatever we can to give 110%. If it's time for Drew to run, then let Drew be Drew."

If Stanton gets the start, the work will begin with today's practice when the starting quarterback gets the bulk of the snaps. Even when Stafford returned two weeks ago from his initial shoulder injury, he was a little rusty.

Johnson said receivers get used to each quarterback in practice throughout the season, but he still expected some adjustment period with Stanton. "It might be a little rust to knock off come Wednesday, but as we get it going, things will be smoothing out," Johnson said.

Stanton is in the final year of his contract. A start Sunday would help him increase his value as well as provide him with an opportunity to show what he can do.

"Yeah, definitely," Stanton said. "To be able to get out there and play is why you put all the hard work in. ... All this stuff that we do is in pursuit of that time that you get to get out there and have the chance to operate an offense. You continue to prep and get ready and when that test comes on Sunday, you want to be prepared for it."

BACK TO SCHOOL: Stanton, Johnson, Cherilus and safety Louis Delmas visited Vandenberg Elementary in Redford to promote physical fitness and present the school with a $10,000 check on behalf of the Lions and the NFL. Principal Syndee Malek said the money would help provide playground and gym equipment.

The Dolphins are not required to pay his full deal here, because he cleared waivers. If they signed him before that, they would then need to pick up the tab. In any event, he was only signed for a 1 year offer.

LB Merriman strains leg in first Bills practice

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP)—Shawne Merriman’s first practice with his new team in Buffalo didn’t last very long, and now it’s uncertain when the linebacker will play again.

Coach Chan Gailey said Wednesday that Merriman strained his lower right leg and that it’s not “anything major,” but declined to offer any specifics. Gailey did say the injury makes it less likely Merriman will make his Bills debut Sunday against Detroit.

“Yeah, it hurts him. His chances (to play) go down tremendously,” Gailey said of the one-time fearsome pass-rusher whom Buffalo claimed off waivers from San Diego a week ago.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Merriman was hurt during an individual drill about 10 minutes into practice. He was dropping back and then pivoting to his left when he pulled up and began hopping on one leg.

Merriman pulled down his right sock and limped to the sideline, where a trainer spent a few minutes checking his ankle. Merriman then consulted head trainer Bud Carpenter at midfield before being escorted to the Bills’ fieldhouse, where the team’s training room is located.

Merriman’s injury was yet another disappointment for a team that’s had very little go right this season, and has dropped each of its last three games by three points, including a 22-19 loss to Chicago last weekend.

“It’s a tough situation. You don’t want that to happen, especially with the excitement he can bring, and what he can do for us defensively,” linebacker Paul Posluszny said. “Man, we can’t catch a break, but what are you going to do but keep going? We still have to play, we still have to prepare. So we’ll continue to press on.”

Injuries over the past three seasons have slowed the performance of a player nicknamed “Lights Out” for his hard-hitting style. Merriman’s five-plus year career in San Diego ended after the Chargers placed him on injured reserve last month due to a calf injury.

The Chargers waived him once he was ruled healthy.

Merriman passed a physical with the Bills after reporting to the team last weekend, but was wearing a wrap around his left calf during practice Wednesday. He had also been bothered by a right Achilles’ tendon injury for much of this year.

He missed most of the 2008 season after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery, and had only four sacks last year after managing 39 1/2 in his first three NFL seasons.

The Bills, off to their worst start in 26 years, were counting on Merriman to spark a defense that’s had difficulty generating a pass rush. The team also lost two starters this week when middle linebacker Andra Davis(notes) (shoulder) and receiver Roscoe Parrish (broken wrist) were placed on injured reserve Monday.

Gailey was disappointed but not entirely surprised that Merriman might have been stiff in practice, given that he’s not practiced for nearly a month.

“What happens is everyone gets their expectations so high, but you’ve got to realize he hasn’t played a lot of football,” Gailey said. “He hasn’t had pads on in a while, all that kind of stuff. You want him out there, but he’s not ready. We’re not going to put him out there until he’s ready. That’s the number one thing.”

Before practice, safety Donte Whitner(notes) expressed hope that Merriman could start on Sunday.

After practice, Whitner was lowering his expectations.

“Hopefully, we can get him out there as soon as possible,” Whitner said. “And he’s going to be a big piece for us when he does finally gets out there.”

I don't get it, Henne isn't lighting the place up by any means but Crypt Keeper Pennington can't be the answer for anyone, they would be better off bringing Marino back.

It spells one of two things...the coaching staff is panicking, or the idea of "win now" means the so called QB of the future experiment may be just about over. Pennington hasn't played since he was injured in the 3rd game of last season, but the Dolphins brain trust seems to believe he gives us the best chance of winning. That in and of itself speaks volumes.

White must just be brutal in practice, they drafted him kind of high and it doesn't sound like he is even a option.

Pat White was brought in to compliment the wildcat. He was dismal, and since every team in the league is either running a variation of it or has figured out how to stop it, he became unnecessary. This leaves us with Tyler Thigpen as our 3rd QB. And with the Jets and Patriots in our division, things look fairly bleak.

I like the fact that he will install his own offense and am sure he would be able to maximize the talent they already have. I wouldn't mind seeing Dallas switch back to a 4-3 defense either. I would love Bill Cowher. I think he could lure Dick Lebeau to come be the DC. I’ll even settle for John Mitchell as our DC. But all this is not happening, unfortunately.

This is what I see happening. If Jason can somehow make the team play for him and win half the remaining games, I think Jason will be the head coach next year. I would love to see the D go back to a 4/3 and get Zimmer back. Even though the Cowboys were in horrible shape salary cape wise, he was able to put together some pretty good defenses, which always ranked in the top 10.

When NFLN makes a show 20 years from now on the “Most Disappointing Seasons Ever,” the 2010 Dallas Cowboys will be number one. Damn!! :(

Not at all. The guy has an arm, and anyone that has been to Dolphin camp (Uhhh, like me) can attest to this. The problem is that our receivers are not exactly what you'd call dependable, and our offensive line is still shaky with regard to pass blocking. This isn't a problem with a QB with a short release and some established pass running patterns for the receivers, but we do not have any. The deal is further compounded by the honest to God weird way our offense is changed from week to week. One series, the pass is a decoy to establish the run. Then the run is abandoned, Ricky Williams sits idle and we invent these dumbass Ronnie Brown plays that create 3 yards and a cloud of dust, leading to our special teams to make things even more spectacular, only for the other team!

And now we are putting in a QB that has had ice on his shoulder for over a year, instead of sticking with a guy who while not exactly being the reincarnation of Dan Marino, has managed to be a serviceable QB and was at least learning to deal with what he was handed by the coaching staff. And it's his fault? Nope, not at all.

That said...he's better than Pennington...and better than many starters in the league. To me...that says more about the other guys than about Henne...

The entire principal about the Dolphins this past three years under the Parcells' era has been one of gimmickry. The wildcat? This offensive scheme was thrown together out of a high school playbook in order to get our two best players (Ronnie Brown and Rickey Williams) on the field at the same time. The future thinking included drafting Pat White (since cut) to run the offense. (C'mon, Chad Pennington? This guy can throw 36 yards down field with the wind at his back on a good day, yet he was positioned as our starting QB.) This idea came off the rails when every team figured out and copied the wildcat ,and as a second thought Henne was drafted somewhere along the way to work as a back up plan.

The thing is, Henne is not a bad QB. Yes, he is prone to rookie mistakes, yet you have to question just how limp our offensive line is that leads to him making questionable decisions. Also, ask why the deep threat of Brandon Marshall has yet to materialize. Could it be that the O-line can not hold off the rush long enough for plays to materialize? It would seem so, as the only time Miami seems to get anywhere is on the ground. Of course, this is only at an average of 3 yards per down, so we wind up having to throw on 3rd and long and wind up either intercepted, punting or of within range, kicking for 3 points.

The painful truth is the Dolphins have not been capable of putting an offense together since the Marino days, and even then it came down to the QB to make something out of it. 1985 was a long fucking time ago. Being a Van Halen fan should make that obvious, but certainly no less delusional.

Michael Vick's record game sparks Eagles to hammer Redskins

SOURCE (http://www.timescolonist.com/sports/Vick+record+game+sparks+Eagles/3832927/story.html)

LANDOVER, Maryland — Michael Vick threw for 333 yards and four touchdowns and ran for two more scores to lead a voluminous record-breaking performance in Philadelphia's 59-28 destruction of Washington in the rain at FedEx Field.

Vick completed 20-of-28 throws and added 80 rushing yards to become the first player in league history to throw for more than 300 yards, run for more than 50, throw four TD passes and run for two more in the same game as the visitors piled up a team-record 592 yards of offense in the second-highest scoring game in franchise history.

Jerome Harrison ran for 109 yards and a touchdown while LeSean McCoy carried 11 times for 43 yards and caught five balls for 51 yards and a score for the Eagles (6-3), who have won two in a row and four out of five since a 17-12 setback to the Redskins in Week 4 to move into a first place tie in the NFC East with the New York Giants, their opponent this coming Sunday night.

DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant also caught TD passes in the high-octane attack that established league records for the most first quarter points (28),the largest lead by a road team after the first quarter (28) and the most points by a visiting team in the first half of play (45) in addition to setting a Monday Night Football record with 59 points.

Donovan McNabb threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times on 17-of-31 efficiency just hours after it was announced that he had signed a multi-year contract extension, reportedly worth $78 million over five years, including a reported $40 million in guaranteed money, with the Redskins (4-5), who returned from a bye week to suffer a second straight loss.

Keiland Williams carried 16 times for 89 yards and two scores and caught four passes for 50 yards and a touchdown in defeat as the Redskins allowed the third-most points in a game in franchise history.

After Jorrick Calvin bobbled the opening kickoff and made it to only his 12- yard line, the Eagles, who could not get the ball deep down the field against the Redskins in their first meeting, went up top on the first play from scrimmage to strike first.

Vick rolled to his left, fired deep down the middle and hit Jackson in stride inside the Redskins 35 and the fleet receiver went untouched the rest of the way into the end zone to finish off the longest scoring play of his three-year career just 18 seconds into the contest.

After forcing a three-and-out on Washington's first offensive possession, the Eagles started at their own 37 and needed just five plays to find the end zone again.

McCoy's 27-yard catch-and-run on a screen pass moved the ball to the 'Skins seven from where Vick ran in on the next play. The southpaw rolled to his right, shed a tackle at the five and dived across the goal line to make it 14-0 only 4:43 into game.

It marked a complete reversal from the first meeting when Washington needed just 4:25 to forge a 14-0 advantage.

Kurt Coleman made an interception on a deflected pass off the hands of Santana Moss on the hosts next drive and brought it back seven yards to the 'Skins 37.

Philadelphia required only six plays to cash in again, as McCoy took a shovel pass 11 yards to paydirt to extend the margin to 21 with five minutes left in the opening stanza.

Following another Washington punt, the Eagles made it four-for-four on TD drives to cap off the highest-scoring first quarter in franchise history. Harrison started left, cut back right, shed two tackles and angled right down the sideline before diving and hitting the pylon to complete a 50-yard scoring run, his first with his new team.

The visitors struck again with another long touchdown on the first play of the second quarter.

Vick found Maclin down the right sideline and the second-year receiver made a leaping catch just inside the boundary and hit the pylon with his left elbow and shoulder while maintaining possession. The play was reviewed and the call on the field was upheld, giving Philadelphia a 35-point advantage.

Washington finally got its offense untracked on its next touch, moving 74 yards on just two plays to make it a 35-7 game only 36 seconds later.

Fred Davis went 71 yards to the Eagles three-yard line on a catch and run on a drag route before McNabb rolled right and found Darrel Young in the flat and the rookie from Villanova made his first touch in the league a three-yard touchdown.

Washington finally got a defensive stop and used another big play to set up a second touchdown.

McNabb found Anthony Armstrong deep down the left sideline for 76 yards to the Eagles five. Two plays later, Williams took a pass from McNabb six yards to paydirt to trim the lead to 35-14 with 9:39 left before halftime.

Dimitri Patterson picked off McNabb on the Redskins' next drive to set up the sixth touchdown of the half for the visitors, who only needed to go 28 yards.

Vick took a shotgun snap and ran to his right six yards for the score that made it 42-14 with 3:34 to go in the quarter. David Akers field goal from 48 yards out pushed the margin to 45-14 at the intermission.

The hosts marched 56 yards on eight plays on their first second half touch to cut the lead to 24. Williams' four-yard TD run around the left end finished the drive that took 3 1/2 minutes.

Philadelphia's last offensive thrust came when Vick moved to his right to avoid the rush, set and drilled a three-yard scoring pass to Avant in the back of the end zone to polish off an 11-play, 71-yard drive that made it 52-21 with 6:15 left in the third quarter.

Patterson's 40-yard interception return 56 seconds later made it 59-21 before Williams 32-yard TD jaunt closed the scoring with just under 11 1/2 minutes to go in the game.

8 Year old tackled by Browns fan to get jersey from LT

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The executive director of LaDainian Tomlinson's "Tomlinson's Touching Lives Foundation" said he will send an autographed Tomlinson jersey or ball to the 8-year-old New York Jets fan who was reportedly tackled by a drunken Browns fan in the parking lot of Cleveland Browns Stadium after the Jets' 26-20 overtime win on Sunday.

Shannon Brazzell, the executive director of Tomlinson's foundation, said he'd hoped Tomlinson could meet the 8-year-old and his family after Sunday's Jets-Texans game at the New Meadowlands Stadium.

The Jets offered to fly the family to New Jersey to watch a game in a luxury suite at the New Meadowlands Stadium and receive autographed memorabilia from coach Rex Ryan and players. But the child's family turned down the offer.

So Brazzell hopes to do the next best thing by sending autographed gear to the 8-year-old.

"We just want to send him something to brighten his spirits," Brazzell said.

A television station in Cleveland, quoting the boy's mother, reported that the fan and his father, who were dressed in Jets gear, were harassed after the game on Sunday.

The mother, identified only as Danielle by ABC affiliate WEWS because she didn't want to reveal her last name, said fans threw food at the boy and his father after the game.

She said her son was then tackled in the parking lot.

"As [my husband] was walking, holding my son's hand, a guy from behind tackled him. A drunken Browns fan tackled him and pulled him out of his dad's hand. He was on the ground crying," Danielle said, according to the station.

As much as I feel for the boy and his father, I question the wisdom today of entering an opposing team's stadium or arena wearing the road team's gear. There has always been a degree of danger in doing this, but the idea of expecting civility in this day and age from drunken assholes (that pretend to be fans of the home team) is pretty much a foregone conclusion. It is mere coincidence that these intoxicated imbeciles happen to be attending a sporting event, as they are more than ready to display their crummy and boorish behavior in any environment.

Steelers did our job FOR us and beat Oakland (soundly)

Chiefs are back on top

Now the interesting thing will be to see who wins tonights game.....
If the Chargers do...Oakland is on their way to being edged out of the running...
and Denver has all but lost their shot....

Childress had to go regardless of the QB. I do think they need to start Jackson now at QB just to get a look at him so they can make a decision on QB for next season. Not to mention AP needs to touch the ball 25 times or so a game regardless if it is carries or catches. The Vikings have fallen hard and fast and as bad as Favre has been the defense has to shoulder alot of the blame to. Allen has been a non factor and it isn't just from being on the field to much, they get lit up all game long.

not positive, but I think it's The Man in the Glass.

It is a reference to the poem that he reads to his players on every Monday....

Man In The Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day
Just go to a mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say
For it isn't your father, mother or wife
Whose judgment upon you must pass
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass
Some people may think you're a straight-shootin' chum
And call you a wonderful guy
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye
He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest
For he's with you clear up to the end
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of life
And get pats on the back as you pass
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the man in the glass

(afraid I don't know who the author is...)

Redskins running back Portis sidelined for the season

Nov 24 (Reuters) (http://www.ottawacitizen.com/story_print.html?id=3879478&sponsor=)

WASHINGTON, DC - Twice Pro Bowler Clinton Portis of the Washington Redskins was ruled out for the rest of the NFL season on Wednesday after being placed on injured reserve.

The 29-year-old, Washington’s primary running back since 2004, had already missed five games with a torn left groin before suffering an abdominal injury during Sunday’s 19-16 win over the Tennessee Titans.

"He’ll have to have surgery in that area," Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan told reporters. "It’ll be a couple of months before he can get back."

It is the second season in a row for Portis to be placed on injured reserve, and the third time in the last five years.

In 2006, he was sidelined by hand and shoulder injuries while last year he was ruled out after being severely concussed.

"(It) really is disappointing because he has worked so hard to get to where he was at," Shanahan said of a player who needs 77 yards to reach 10,000 for his career.

"He’s encouraging all the other players and he’s a big part of this football team. You hate to see a person work that hard and not get an opportunity to finish the season."

That said, there was one neat moment in the game, which happened near the end of the first half. The NFL Network broke away from the game for a moment so that a host of soldiers currently serving in Afghanistan could say "Hello" to their families. One of those soldiers was Lt. Marcus Millen of the 230th Infantry Task Force. Millen sent a holiday greeting to his wife, and then admonished his dad - "Don't make any mistakes tonight, because we're all watching!"

Spygate Part 2? Broncos official on leave amid probe

In a case reminiscent of the New England Patriots' Spygate scandal of 2007-08, the Denver Broncos have fallen under the microscope of the NFL for possible impermissible videotaping of an opponent, The Denver Post has reported.

Broncos chief operating officer Joe Ellis confirmed to the newspaper Friday that the league was reviewing the team's possible filming of the San Francisco 49ers from before their London game of Week 8. Team sources told the paper that the Broncos were actively working with the league in regard to the investigation.

The team's video operations director, Steve Scarnecchia, is on a "personal leave of absence" while the NFL's investigation takes place, Ellis told The Post. He declined to address the matter further. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to comment when reached by The Post.

The Broncos lost the London game 24-16. The investigation is focused on walk-through practice sessions held the day before at Wembley Stadium, according to the report.

Scarnecchia, who also declined comment, worked for the Patriots along with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels in 2008, when commissioner Roger Goodell docked their first-round draft pick for that year and fined coach Bill Belichick $500,000 for a violation of NFL rules that bar teams from filming opponents' signals. The Patriots, who were found to have videotaped New York Jets coaches during a 2006 game, were fined an additional $250,000.

McDaniels was the Patriots' offensive coordinator that season, having been promoted from quarterbacks coach in 2006 to make him the youngest coordinator in the league at the time.

McDaniels said at his introduction as Broncos coach that the videotaping scandal "didn't really affect" the team.

"That situation was something that happened," McDaniels said at a January 2009 news conference. "I was not aware of that. I wasn't aware of it and all the things that did happen in terms of that whole scenario. It really didn't affect us, to tell you the truth. It was all about preparation and trying to do whatever we felt was best that week. It really didn't have anything to do with that.

"I don't think it is good. To have that kind of attention was a distraction, and I think that is how we all treated it. We tried to do the best we could to limit those distractions every week, and it will be no different here. Certainly we are never looking to do anything that is not within the rules established by the National Football League. They determined the punishment on that, and it was what it was and we moved on."
