I clipped this from the MTV article..."After fronting one of the most popular bands in the '70s and '80s, Mercury succumbed to AIDS in 1991. The band's music continued to reach new generations of fans through pop-culture vehicles such as the Mike Myers comedy "Wayne's World."

Wayne's World? Really? Is that Really why Queens has survived so well? Shucks, All this time I thought it was because it was great timeless music. How foolish of me...

Inspired casting. I think it's going to end up being REALLY good. Cohen is a great actor...looks-wise, he's a great fit. Really looking forward to this.

I can see Cohen pulling off the acting part, but for the love of God, please tell me he's not singing.

While lip syncing in a movie is going to look totally lame, it's probably the best option for this movie. Cohen can't sing like Freddie, and if they come up with some fucking imitator to do the vocals, he probably wouldn't do it justice. (Maybe Frankie Banali can recommend a WHAM tribute band singer to do it?)

Me & some friends were walking out of the theater from that movie & overheard the kids next to us. One speaking of Freddie said "Man, it sucks he died just before they were about to get famous". I kid you not. We just all gave each other the look and didn't say anything.

This is why it's a crying shame record stores are gone. And physical owning of music in general. Where you would go in, rummage through albums, buy things based on cover art, people talking, how cool the band poster or button was, or borrowing a friends album.

Now everything is just a simple title and mb size listed next to it. No flavor at all.

To be honest, I first listened to Queen after rummaging my older sisters & brothers albums when they were gone. I picked one cause the giant was breaking into the theater killing people. To a 10 year old that looked awesome. The other I picked because it had a song about a dragon...also very cool to a 10 year old.

Hmm...looks are also why I grabbed my brothers Kiss-Destroyer album.

At first I was like what? He's a clown. But he is in essence a character actor so he can probably handle portraying Freddie Mercury. I just caught part of Bruno on HBO, he does do a convincing job of playing a homosexual, just sayin'... Start re-growing that mustache!

That was awesome!! If they don't use that dude for the on-screen role, he should at least do the voice overdubs for the singing! It almost makes you think about reincarnation...

As for Cohen, I have a hunch that he's probably a better actor and has more range than most give him credit for. The problem is that he's become so pigeon-holed into stupid parody movies and lemur voice-overs that nobody can visualize him doing anything else.

Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised....

I really miss Freddie Mercury.
If I helped Jesus fix a flat tire on the side of the road and he told me I could wish anyone back from the dead I would say Freddie Mercury without a seconds worth of hesitation...
I'd choose Freddie over Lennon, Dio, Rhodes, Bon Scott, Elvis...

Queen's Brian May recalls that Mercury could hardly walk when the band recorded "The Show Must Go On" in 1990. "I said, 'Fred, I don't know if this is going to be possible to sing,' " May says. "And he went, 'I'll fucking do it, darling' — vodka down — and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal."

Sacha Baron Cohen on song to play Freddie Mercury

Great Pretender ... Sacha Baron Cohen will play Freddie Mercury in biopic

FUNNYMAN Sacha Baron Cohen is taking singing lessons for his movie role as Freddie Mercury.

Sacha is working with vocal coaches in Hollywood in a bid to copy the former Queen frontman.

Insiders on the biopic — due to be filmed later this year — say Sacha, 41, has not yet decided if his voice will feature in singing segments. But the Borat and Bruno star has been working hard to copy Freddie’s posh accent.

He has also pored over hours of Queen concert footage and private videos of Freddie in reflective and sombre mood. Queen guitarist Brian May said that Sacha is “the driving force” on the film project.

A Hollywood source revealed: “Sacha is a huge Queen fan and is focused on getting Freddie’s mannerisms, style and speech perfect.

“He is working on building his vocals. It is a uphill task, because Freddie has such a unique power and tone.”

Sacha recently wowed fans with his vocals in the film version of musical Les Miserables.

That movie’s director — King’s Speech Oscar winner Tom Hooper — is being lined up for the Freddie film.

I like Queen & Freddie Mercury. But he really is becoming something much larger than what he was when alive. He was great during his time but I just don't think he was quite as legendary as he has become. Another 10 years and we will be hearing how he farted gold dust and his mustache had healing powers. This seems to happen to a lot of musicians who leave at relatively young ages.

It's been three years since Sacha Baron Cohen signed on to play the role of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Since then, there hasn't been much news, but now it looks like it was all for naught as Cohen has officially dropped out, due to creative differences with the surviving members of Queen.

According to Deadline, the members of Queen want to see a PG movie that makes Queen look like One Direction, but Cohen is insisting on a gritty, honest portrayal of Mercury and his struggles. This is disappointing news, as there's a clear resemblance between Mercury and Cohen. In addition, it would be Cohen's first truly dramatic role.

Tom Hooper had also expressed interest in directing, having just worked with Cohen on Les Misérables, though it's unclear if he will stay with the film now lacking its star.
