Listening to YSP here in Philly today. After the conclusion of I'll Wait the jock comes on and says Van Halen is in the studio for the first time since 1984 with DLR at the helm working on a new album! She then has a quote from Ed " this is going to be something different from what the fans are used to hearing VH sound like".

So I guess those rumors, sightings etc are true?! Only time will tell.

GOOD!

Since we are used to hearing keyboards, Hagar, and drunken porno noodling ....we are looking forward to something different.

Let's just hope it's not VHIII with Dave singing.

...or an album full of "Ladies Night In Buffalo" and "Push Comes To Shove" wannabes. All great tunes, BTW, not just an entire album full. My next door neighbor is bettin' me it's going to be a bunch of "guest appearances" with the actual band on one or two tunes.

A poll of the neighborhood seems to show a consensus...

That would be awesome as long as Ed is the one being substituted. Just think of all the cool guest guitarists Dave could sing with.

I have reason to believe that there WILL be a new album dropping late this year, if not very early into 2011. I'll put money down

Mr Wu was amazing still makes me laugh every time.

The actor seems to have played every chinaman on US TV for the last 30 years...

I was thinking about a new album this morning while driving around listening to 1984. You know what? If they release a 10 song album with 9 songs like "How Many Say I", and only 1 song like "Girl Gone Bad"...I'll have a raging VH boner for the next 3 years and it will trump anything they have done since Me Wise Magic.

1 gem...that's all I need.

As much as people say the well has run dry...Daves voice is gone...Eddie can't play anymore...Wolfie is too noob. They gotta have one fucking gem in there to make us all just shoot a wad on the first listen. This I swear to you!!!!

Just my $0.02 (or $15.99 when the CD hits)

FUCKING A RAWR!

They are recording and it will be good. Why?
1) Eddie's sober
2) DLR
3) Wolfgang, while not being MA, I’m confident will help VH connect with modern music directions and a new younger audience
4) They have to release a new album and material to make money touring – they can’t tour off their back catalog forever. If they flop this one its game over. I don’t think they could recover - they are getting too old.
5) They have a back catalog of very old tunes like ‘Down in Flames’, ‘Bullethead’, ‘Big Trouble’, ‘lets get rockin’. It’s an obvious temptation and nod to the fans to re-do one or some of them.
6) Eddie will have a new guitar solo on the record ala eruption, Spanish fly, cathedral but it will be modern like ‘primary’ and longer – something that dazzles us and shows us he still has the fire. Eddies more competitive when he’s sober.
7) It will be more of a straight up rock album to obliterate Chickenfoot back to the coop.
8) or it may be a complete departure to NOT follow in Chickenfoots tracks and either go heavier to attract the younger audience OR it will go back to their roots. The music they group up with. Im convinced DLR and Ed will get competitive and want to do something to kick the chicken and red roosters ass! They can't replicate 1974-1984 either but Im doubtful how 'new' they can sound. Their sonic identity is difficult to change. They are not Porcupine Tree.
9) Hopefully it will be more trippy and less 80’s ballads – if keyboards are used they will be influenced by modern techno – it will be the fair warning of the 21st century.
10) Ed is sober
