Actually Andy Johns said Sammy Hagar's work ethic sucked and he had a huge ego. I think Andy Johns has told the exact truth about what he experienced working with Van Halen. Sammy wouldn't show up, was difficult to work with and Eddie saw himself as some kind of brilliant music composer who didn't need anyone else.
