Is there a nice quality video from the 1984 tour that is generally accepted to
be one of the better shows? I'd like to get a video from that tour (even if it's
not the Buffalo show I attended.) The Montreal Forum seems to get high
marks but it doesn't seem to be readily available.

The only one I've ever seen is the Montreal show. There must be more out there, but I've not seen them. I'd be interested to get my hands on one of the '84 shows too

There are only a handful of 84 shows out there, most aren't complete. Montreal is the one to get..

I remember seeing a copy of the Toronto show back in the day. I've yet to see a copy of it out there. I recall it was of the same quality as the Montreal show...

I've got Montreal. Las Vegas has been circulated out there, and I think Uniondale, New York... Heard about Toronto before but never seen it. If I was allowed to send things via snail mail, I would, but currently I can only upload without getting in trouble with the parents... Even then, that's still 9 gigs of space, that'd take forever. Any audio bootlegs however, i'd gladly upload! :hee:

EDIT: Looked up Las Vegas, it's not a complete show. I didn't think it was.

Thanks for the replies. If anyone knows where to find the '84 Montreal show,
lemme know. I've been trying torrents searches but have come up empty so far.
Guess I'll have to be content with YouTube clips (http://www.google.com/search?q=van+halen+montreal+1984&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#q=van+halen+montreal+1984&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=z1a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=iv&source=univ&tbs=vid:1&tbo=u&ei=_4GfTL_tF4OKlwfmkszfCg&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CB8QqwQwAA&fp=9d6eeca7724bdc1a).

It's a fucking crime. There has to be a pro-shot, high quality film of this tour just gathering dust in Eddies damn vault. It's not fucking fair!

Michael has said he has a lot of stuff, but would be sued to high heaven if he ever let it out. The brothers would know instantly where it came from.

van halen former manager back then, i forget his name but he is dead now, neil something or other, as well as a van halen anthology
book, the 1984 largo concerts, both nights, were pro-shot but the in-house video system.....as most concerts in the capital centre were.
however, at present, the only pro-shot 1984 footage to ever surface, is "hot for teacher" from donnington from bbc's "the old grey whistle test", and mtv's "lost weekend" segment with contest winner.

the largo 1980 and 1984 footage is confirmed to exist, alongside oakland 1981, but other than the 1981 clips on mtv,
none of any of this stuff has ever turned up.

all i know is, somebody somewhere has this stuff and they're sitting on it.

This was right around the Winnipeg show. The quality is not bad really.
I've never seen the whole thing, just pieces of it.
This is better than the US Festival in 83 IMHO. Dave was hammered at that show before it started.

My dad's best friend had went to the Largo show in 1982, both nights. He had seats that I can only describe like this. Let's say we're Van Halen. We're on stage facing out. If we looked up and straight out, there would be a box seat above the floor. He and a few of his friends had some of the best seats in the house. And he even let me wear the tour t-shirt he got there!

Montreal kicks major ass. I often watch it (have it in .avi format) and really enjoy it.
It's just too bad nobody shot the Indianapolis show. The audio is great, IMHO; Dave is On Fire (homecoming), and the audience is wild.

Other than that, I have the US Fest and Kirschner stuff.

Not really so much a case of Montreal being the best 1984 tour video, but really the only 1984 tour video in terms of bootleg circulation.

There's also the Donnington HFT clip, but I've never seen another 1984 start-to-finish show outside of Montreal. Come to think of it, I haven't seen any other 1984 footage beyond the brief snippets MTV aired (Lost Weekend with Van Halen).

Someone once told me in an email that they had the entire Donnington show on video, and they offered to trade me some other shows for it. However, said trade fell through on their end, with a bunch of excuses offered in place of producing the actual show ("Well, my dvd player is broken", "I can't trade right now; family emergency", "I promised the person who gave me the footage that I wouldn't give it to anyone else" - just the biggest bunch of lame-ass rationales rather than manning up and admitting they never had the footage in the first place).

I mean, I'd enjoy seeing some other 1984 footage other than Montreal, but if such stuff exists out there in circulation it's the first time I'm hearing about it.

I cant believe you guys dont have more DVD bootlegs! you should be ashamed of yourselves. The montreal 84 footage you posted sucks...very generated. There are great versions of this show out there. Hell even the donnington is very generated. 10 years ago there was great footage around. Looks like someone has affected the gene pool again!!

My dear Fletch,
in the meantime, I happened to get the 1982 Largo video (classic) and two shows from 2007 (Philly & L.A.), the latter being unwatchable, IMHO.
Sure, I have some DLR stuff, (Montreal 86, Finland 99, Japan 2002 or 3, that Party Dude thing) but I'd surely sell my ass for a video from Indy 84.
