Just picked up the new Alice package. Package because you get the CD and a DVD of the concert from Hammersmith. I have to say, as an Alice fan for some 35 years, this album is a little different. It's similar to the Alice Cooper Show in that he seems to play a lot of songs but not all the way through. Medleys if you will. It's much better with the visual of the DVD so you can see the story on the stage.

Not a lot new here tune-wise, other than it was cool to hear "Guilty" live. Alice's voice seems tired. Very tired in spots. I'm not sure at what point in the tour this was, but I saw the tour for the Along Came a Spider tour in 2008, I believe, and this was recorded in 2009.

Otherwise it's good old Alice. As usual he has a good backing band, who can duplicate the old tunes well. For $15 it's a nice buy.

Good deal. I saw him on the Along Came a Spider tour as well and his voice was very strong. Come to think of it, i don't know that i have every seen an Alice show or a concert dvd where his voice sounded tired so that will be strange. Did this recorded show follow the 3 death format or had his tour developed into something different by 2009?

The Coop never gets the respect he deserves.

He never did anything shitty, although people will tell you 76-86 were lean years cos he wasn't "rock" enough.

Mon the Coop!

Shitty production but a good album.

It's not like his voice is bad, but there are some tunes like From The Inside and Nurse Rosetta where it's sounding a bit tired. He gets killed in the three same ways, beheaded, lethal injection and hanging.

Forgotten classic from 91's "Hey Stoopid".

The only real Alice song on the album.

Good CD, though.

I've always respected the fact that Alice is prepared to experiment and try out new sounds and ideas.

For me, the late '80s and early 90s were his creative low-point, even if he was selling lots of records...

He never made a bad album, though.

I always think that "Trash" and "Hey stoopid" was Alice interpreting other peoples songs (even if he did have a hand in writing them).

I always liked "Trash" but went back to "Hey stoopid" recently and was blown away by how good it is.

He was kinda bandwagoning in those days, but that got him platinum albums and his name back in the charts.

If you respect Alice for trying new sounds and ideas, why not respect him for his successful reinvention as an MTV friendly pop/metal act?

As with anyone who's been around so long there are ups and downs. Some people hate the late 70's/early 80's trilogy of new wave albums, Flush the Fashion, Special Forces, and Zipper Catches Skin, but I love them. Alice says he can't remember a thing about writing or recording SF or ZCS because of his drinking.

The low point came right after that with Dada. For I anyway. It's one of those hate/love albums, similar to how fans react to KISS' The Elder. With the exception of a couple of tunes, I just cannot get into it.

The public weren't buying what he was selling so he made "Trash".

Next thing he's got a huge hit album, the "Wayne's World" film and living legends status.

A bad move?

I don't really find Trash to be a bad album. Some good songs. Some hits. It was pretty much the kind of hard rock being put out by lots of bands at that point. Hey Stoopid was a superior album! Although I always hated the title.

That overproduced mainstream crap sucks...

I like Alice's voice on some of the songs, but replace it with a twangy country singer and the lame music wouldn't sound out of place...

I'm down with just about all of the Alice stuff. He should get a ton of credit for reinventing himself in the mid 80's. When Constrictor came out and he was doing the Friday the 13th soundtrack as well as the Halloween MTV special, i tripped out on how he just came out of nowhere after some years of obscurity. Constrictor was ok but i thought Raise Your Fist and Yell was a damn good album. Then Trash came out and i thought it was fair. Hey Stoopid was a very underrrated album as was Last Temptation. I find myself listening to those two records a lot more than the others. What really blew my mind was Brutal Planet. I thought that was the end all be all. It was heavier than anything he had done before and it was killer. To me that was like his 4th or 5th time reinventing himself. Dragontown was pretty killer as well but not quite as solid as BP. I didn't care too much for Dirty Diamonds or Eyes of Alice because he went back to more of a straight ahead 70's sound, but a lot of his core fans liked those 2 records. I guess it just depends on what you like. At the end of the day, Alice Cooper ended up having many different sounds and having played in several different genres. No matter what your mood is you can go pick out an Alice record that fits. He is a first ballot hall of famer if there ever was one.

Saw some pictures and a brief clip of 'I'M Eighteen' from the R&R HOF Ceremony... looks like Dunaway would be the only keeper from the old band... have his autograph hanging on the wall of my office at work (right next to the Paul Stanley autograph that Wooda got me from a NAMM session).

It will be good. Just won't be WTMY good. To be honest, among Alice albums WTMN has never been near the top of my list. It's a great record but it's also not even close to albums like Love it To Death and Killer or BDB.

I hear ya, that whole From The Inside era of Alice should be erased from history. Hell, even the falling apart and held together with duct tape Muscle Of Love was superior. He redeemed himself somewhat a year or so later with Flush The Fashion, but by then nobody (including me) was listening anymore. And that's a shame, as the man eventually got back on track, consistently putting together some great shows and occasional stabs at his former glory since 1987 or so.

I love the 'From The Inside' CD... way overproduced, but still it has some great moments... especially 'Jackknife Johnny'
I have a bootleg copy of this 'Strange Case of Alice Cooper' show and it is pretty bad... but not nearly as bad as the 1977 video from the Lace And Whiskey tour with the dancing chickens and stuff, that was the lowest point of Alice's career.

What's Keisha and disco ??

"What Baby Wants"
While Cooper was thinking of a character to play the devil on Welcome 2 My Nightmare, he came across Kesha at the Grammys and said that she had the qualities of a "rock singer." In typical Alice Cooper fashion (harkening back to Billion Dollar Babies when Donovan sang with Cooper on the title track), he decided to bring Kesha in to work on the album because it would be unexpected. Cooper said about Kesha, "I think a lot of my audience is going to go KE$HA!?, but she probably wrote the most disgusting lyrics in the song – we had to rein her in." According to Cooper, many of her lyrics had to be toned down for the album. Kesha plays the part of the devil, continuing from "I'll Bite Your Face Off", telling Alice that it's time to pay the ultimate price: his soul.

"Disco Bloodbath Boogie Fever"
"Disco Bloodbath Boogie Fever" continues Cooper's idea that "no matter what you do, you can't kill disco." The song is strikingly similar to the Alice Cooper Goes to Hell song "You Gotta Dance", where disco is used as an eternal punishment in Hell. The guitar solo at the end of the song, played by John 5, is representative of disco being overtaken by rock.

Sweet, tap-dancing Jesus...I just listened to roughly 45 seconds of that garbage, and quickly clicked on a clip of KISS playing "I Was Made For Loving You" in order to settle my stomach and calm my nerves. Man, you really can't un-hear or unsee something you've encountered randomly or particularly, on purpose.

Yesterday , I scored some general admission tix to see Alice Cooper at The Pageant on Friday Night , June 16th.
It's fun to be crammed up against the barricade in these smaller venues to see a real rock and roll show .
Alice Cooper always brings it live and never dissapoints .
