Last Sunday, my wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Pat Benatar!

Pat and her husband, Neil Geraldo, are touring Australia and for the first time ever they played our home town, Adelaide. We went to one of our major hotels during the afternoon prior to the concert, hoping to meet her. I have met Alex Van Halen and Def Leppard at the same hotel so I thought maybe... We waited about an hour and then there she is! Emerging from a lift, Pat Benatar autographs a book and has photos with us. One very cool chick! (Like most guys my age, I've had a crush on Pat since about 1980).

The show was brilliant - one of the best I've ever seen. Pat and Neil played with a level of enthusiasm and energy that is reminiscent their earl days, blasting out Heartbreaker, All Fired Up, Shadows of the Night and Invincible.

One of the best things about the show was the way Pat and Neil interacted with the crowd. About halfway through the set, they sat on stools near the front of the stage and played acoustic versions of some of their songs between the stories behind recording them.

I would also add that anyone who appreciates great guitar playing should go see Neil Geraldo in action.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has also seen Pat live or met her. Would loved to have seen her during the early days - the 'In the heat of the night' and 'Crimes of passion' tours.

By the way, her book is a good read - an interesting expose into the exploitation of the music biz of the 70s and 80s.

For sure. Seen her a couple times live too. Always excellent.

If I remember correctly, she has a daughter who is also quite the looker.

Yeah she has two daughters and both have inherited her good looks.

Did you see her in the early days or recently?

I'm listening to her first album a lot these days. Classic late 70s hard rock. Raw and edgy with a live feel to it. Some of the tracks are 'Heartbreaker', 'If you think you know how to love me', 'In the heat of the night', 'No you don't' and 'So sincere'. I like her early stuff most but I can still get into her poppier mid 80s albums.

The one negative was the venue. The show was originally scheduled for the Adelaide Entertainment Centre's Arena (about 8000 capacity), but later it was shifted to their smaller 'Theatre' room (about 2500 capacity). We had elevated seats for the Arena but when we went to our seats in the Theatre they were ground level and near the back. After a few songs we got up and walked down the front and ended up within two metres of the stage for most of the show. Normally this venue does not allow people to leave their seats but several hundred did, probably pissed off with the change in venue and no elevated views. It is also a very corporate, bland looking place. Would rather have seen them in one of those old theatres.

But hey - after 30 years - at least they came here!

Little known fact about Pat Benatar: Neil Geraldo is actually her second husband. Her first marriage didn't last that long, but her first husband gave her something she would keep forever.

No, not herpes. Get your minds out of the gutter. "Benatar" was his last name. Somehow Pat figured out that - even with a voice like hers - she might not have gotten a record deal as Patricia Mae Andrzejewski.

Last time was about 10 years ago at the big Indian Casino here. Packed house. Great show with a lot of energy. She played everything you would have expected her to, and sounded great.

That's right. She married young and soon realised it was a mistake. I don't know if Pat was advised to keep the name for her career but the name 'Benatar' does have a certain rock chick ring to it.

I saw her in Va Bch. I guess it was 2001-2003 time frame. Had fun. She still has her pipes and was impressed with her hubby of like 20 some odd years now guitar work. Their daughter was like 16 at the time but easy to see she was gonna be a "Heartbreaker" if you can pardon the pun.
