Van Halen webmaster asleep at the wheel?

OK...this is admittedly a pretty weak thread for MAIN.

And I will absorb any abuse that Jager-what's-his-face wants to heap upon me for I have been critical of his MAIN threads in recent weeks.

However, I surfed on over to the "Official" Van Halen website today, and found that the home page is wishing all ofus a "Happy New Year."

Nice, right?

Only problem is that the posting is dated December 29, 2009...and references 2010 as the "New Year."

Has the webmaster been hitting the Smoking Loon?

May be a weak thread, but it is just one more demonstration of the sheer laziness of the people involved. At least when dealing with their fans, anyway. You would think they would be grateful that the fans have given them their mansions, their Italian sports cars, their MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, but NOOOooOoooOoOoOOooOooooOOOOoooo................... ..

Ed's old lady has got to be the most useless PR person in Hollywood. Think about it. She has, at her disposal, one of Rock and Rolls biggest names to
hype and keep a buzz rolling. Yet she is like her husband and chooses to do fuck all. Like, what does it take to put up some updates,photos or quotes?
Fuck, she doesn't have to invite the world into her living room (ala. Osbournes or $immon$). But shit, how 'bout some shots of them tracking new music or
a simple greeting to the fans...
Van Halen treats their fans like dogs, with the mindset of when Ed barks they will come. Buncha lame asses living on past glories. Completely out of touch with
modern world...

It's absurd. The fact is, several folks (including myself) have been using the "Official" VH site as a punchline for a while now. It was dumb enough when it was thought appropriate to feature some album covers with Mike Anthony airbrushed out of them, with Wolfgang Van Halen awkwardly inserted in place. The brilliant marketing that lead to the band's merchandise to only being available through the site several months after the 2007 tour was well under way was yet another misstep, so why should it come as a surprise that other than promoting a pair of crummy hot rods for sale and some dubious musical equipment, the band's message to the fans should be a year out of date?

It's interesting to note that when Dave was handling certain aspects of the band's career, the "no brown m&ms" clause was written into the group's tour rider to make certain that every little detail was line checked. One can only wish that someone nearly as astute was piloting the ship at this point.

It is ironic actually that $tarks DID have updates in 1999 on Van Danniels' second album - the one they never finished - but there's nothing regarding the upcoming Van Halen album that has been widely reported in the media.

The webmaster probably tried to steal Wolfies hamburger and Wolfie got pissed and clubbed him to death with his bass. The website still runs because Van Halen Productions accounts payable person pays the bill every month. Nobody is managing anything and Ed is doing lines with Sweet Sweet Connie.

It's fairly obvious Starks only updates the main site as he's told to do so... clearly ain't nobody talkin to the boy...

From 1998 - 2002, Brad & band had one of the top rock band web sites around. They were ahead of the pack on adopting and producing a web presence. One of the first official sites to even open up a bulletin board for the fans. By 2002, the band had soured on the net from being exposed to the fans' opinions and honesty. Then Ed & Val separated in 2002 and Ed shut down the PD to keep his personal failures quiet. Then the cancer ordeal...

2004 had a ton of updates ready and some of it was "allowed" to be released. Starks had the vault completely reorganized and cleaned up with new data. But SPed axed it all...

2007 the band hired t42design to revamp the look of the site, which produced the dumbass editing of the 1978 debut release album cover with Mike erased/replaced by Ed's Brat. No one has ever spoke a word from inside the VH camp on that bullshit... I suspect it was the product of Ed and Matt Bruck's lameass attempt to be cute/crafty... but it backfired miserably when the fanbase overwhelmingly called foul. My interactions with Starks then indicated he had another updated vault and other new "cool stuff" ready to go. Again... SPed axed it...

From all I've seen/heard... you can't blame the webmaster for all this. It's mostly a result of Ed's psychosis and add Al & Janie into the mix as well.

Nah, it ain't Starks fault for that, he's merely doing what he's told to do by Ed. Back when the site was actually worth a damn, it was his baby. Ed had him yank all the good stuff imo. They should take it off the 'net, it's that much of a joke.
