Def Leppard Announce Lullabies Album
terrybezer / News / 09/05/2011 16:58pm
In a move that should surely be filed under the folder marked ‘crap ideas of our time’, Def Leppard have announced that they are to release an album full of their greatest hits as lullabies for babies. Honestly.
Who thought this was a good idea? how was this allowed to happen? In a bonkers move, Def Leppard have announced that they are to release ‘Dreamin’ With Def Leppard’, a collection of 12 of their biggest hits in a softened style that is suitable for babies.

The 12 tracks being released on ‘Dreamin’ With Def Leppard’ will be:

‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’
‘Hysteria’
‘Photograph’
‘Love Bites’
‘Foolin”
‘Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad’
‘Bringin’ on the Heartbreak’
‘Too Late For Love’
‘Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)’
‘Promises’
‘Animal’
‘Rock of Ages’

Um........

A few of those songs will need some serious lyric swaps to make them suitable for babies.

but really....W T F !!?? Vince Neil ice skating made more sense than this. Jack Russell being a spokesman for a new BBQ grill where his one line is "Now that's a fire, and I know fires" would be more believable than this.

And can't parents just play 'Balance' to put their kids to sleep?

It's even more stupid because most Def Leppard fans had their kids years ago, is this for their grandkids?

There was a commercial on TV here recently with a lovely gentle version of 'Sweet Child of Mine' selling baby wipes or something which was incredibly wrong.

Still it does make some sense since on most of their albums the have had a couple of songs with a verse melody of 'Pat a cake pat a cake bakers man'.

Talking of which when was the decision made that 'Pour Some Sugar' is their best song? That's always the one you hear on Classic Rock stations.

Apparently, the band has hired the ever-so-astute Janie of the Van Halen PR department to create the press release for this idiotic album. How on Earth can you have a "popular "Rock the Cradle" series" when the first album has not been released yet?

BLABBERMOUTH (http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=157738)

PHIL COLLEN, VIVIAN CAMPBELL Featured On 'Dreamin' With Def Leppard' Lullaby Album - May 5, 2011

eOne Music and Happiness Records have announced the release of "Dreamin' With Def Leppard", the first installment of the popular "Rock the Cradle" series, on June 28.

The "Rock The Cradle" series features lullaby renditions of popular songs from legendary rock groups, and is the only lullaby series that series that features full band production and original members of the band.

"Dreamin' With Def Leppard" is no exception, as it features DEF LEPPARD guitarists Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell performing 12 of the bands biggest hits. And, contrary to the usual simple keyboard and xylophone production, each track features a complete band production. DEF LEPPARD's biggest hits are melodic at their core, and for the LEPPARD "lullification" process, the producers of the album wrapped those great melodies with a warm blanket.

"Dreaming With Def Leppard" includes 12 song set featuring some of DEF LEPPARD's greatest hits, including "Pour Some Sugar on Me", "Photograph", "Love Bites" and many more. Now, the toddler set has a rockin' way to go to sleep. This truly is a "Rock of Ages!"

Meh.

Rock music has been getting soft and corporatized for years now. A bunch of faux rebellious twaddle packaged in spandex and leather.

Enough people have come to accept this disneyfied shite as somehow representative of what rock music stands for that this specific Leppard biz is hardly surprising.

It ain't called the record business and music industry for nothing.

Totally agree...they get a lot of flack for Hysteria, and it does have a great deal of polish on it, but they had so much time to tweak it, while Rick recuperated and got acclimated to his new drum kit and style. They didn't have to wait for the guy, but it was important to them that they did.
They took a big gamble being out of the public eye for so long after the success of Pyromania.
I will say that I lost interest after Steve was lost...nothing against Phil, but Steve's sound seemed to be the signature.

RickAllensLeftArm is one of my old aliases as a tribute to the man who plays drums with a leg better than many with two arms... or at least better than that drunkard Sesh... anyhow, DL brings back some good memories. I would have cut off my own arm too if the band replaced me with a drum machine... and the background vocals sound fake as hell also, but I still like Pyromania... all I got is a photograph!!! Gonna dig out my sleeveless Union Jack concert t-shirt and parachute pants.... but I digress...

Honestly, overall I'd rather listen to Heart, Journey, REO Speedwagon or Foreigner than Leppard. Save for Hig N' Dry, any of those other bands at their best are more preferable to my ears.

Matter of fact, when I saw Journey open up for Leppard several years back, Journey blew 'em away; better sound, better songs, Neil Schon was fucking BLAZING...AND it was a Perryless Journey (Jeff Scott Soto on lead vocals), too boot.
Leppard were kinda lame, and Joe Perry was plainly avoiding any high notes: like, he wouldn't even make an ATTEMPT at 'em, just sung in a lower register. Plus, Vivian Campbell was up there gladly playing second fiddle to Phil Collen - depressing.

Always loved Journey. Just can't do it without Steve there though. But unlike Van Hagar, Journey made no bones about what they were selling you. I like that kind of music, just not when it is coming from a band that shouldn't be playing it.

I hate Vivian Campbell. Seen Def Lep once with him. Unhappy times. Joe not hitting the high notes is a bummer too. But I really liked Hysteria and can't even explain how awesome I think Pyromania is. I could listen to that album every day forever.

One thing that Joe Elliot said once about the early songs that I didn't like & has stuck with me was he compared them to boosters on a rocket. And how they use them to get up to a certain level, and then fall off. That the songs were used to propel them to a known level, but dropped off which is why they don't play them anymore. :( He also said while 5% of the crowd would love them, the other 95% wouldn't even know the songs. Maybe if they started playing them, the people at the shows would hear them and really like them.

For me Def Leppard ended the day Adrenalize was released.

When I saw them several years back, this was before they found Arnel.

Jeff Scott Soto sang lead vocals (this was the guy who sang for them for a couple of concert seasons after Steve Augeri left the band - Augeri being Perry's first replacement) and drummer Deen Castrnovo also sang lead vocals on a couple of tunes.

I bet the band would sound great live with Arnel; from what I've heard of him on the net, he is the closest sounding singer to Perry the band have had since Perry left.

So I was in WalMart and saw the new Leppard live album, Mirrorball. For $12 you get two cd's of music and a DVD of stuff. I figured for $12 it was a decent deal and worth having to listen to at my desk. Well, I probably could have used the $12 to buy a nice porno mag and beat off to it, since I was getting fucked over. This has to be least energized "live" album I've ever heard. They show a little bit of the old form on some of the Pyromania tunes like Rock Rock, Photograph, Too Late for Love and Foolin', but geez, they massacre Bringin' On The Heartache, and do no other songs from the first two albums. The rest is just weak. What the hell happened to these guys? They sound bored. I can imagine what they'd look like if it were a DVD.

Night Ranger had the ability to not so much look ahead as just remember that being hired for a gig was the start....everything else was gravy. Yep. Shit since Steve passed. They all deserved a huge pat on the back for creating Hysteria with a 1 armed drummer. WTF right? And totally awesome the guys had the class to stick by their bud. He was not just the drummer....he was their friend. And that's HUGE! They will always have my respect for keeping him in & being patient.

Yeah, I give them huge props for that as well. I am still what you would call a Def Leppard fan. I like to go see them play live, they put on a pretty good show, sing all the right songs and put their heart into it (except maybe Viv). It is ALWAYS a fun night out. I think Joe Elliott is a great guy, a REAL fan of music who is ALWAYS involved in outside projects that are not commercially oriented, Joe is probably a big reason why I am still a fan of Lep. As far as their albums go, it's a pretty mixed bag. I don't like everything they've done but each album seems to produce a couple of good songs. I would say "Songs From....." maybe even had four. They say the upcoming album is a throwback, I guess we shall see about that...... I think if you temper your expectations and realize that mere mortals could never sustain the standard they set with "High and Dry" and "Pyromania" then you will be on the right track.

I saw them in December.

The five of us left at the sixth song, When Love and Hate Collide.

I'm not into that Celine Dion shit.

Just looked up the setlist and we didn't miss much...

Undefeated, Rocket, Action (Sweet cover), Make Love Like a Man, High 'N Dry, When Love and Hate Collide, Women, Two Steps Behind (Acoustic), Bringin' on the Heartbreak (Acoustic), Switch 625, Hysteria, Animal, Armageddon It, Photograph, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Encore: Let's Get Rocked.

Losing his arm must have been a real hindrance when he was trying to beat up his wife too.

I'm sure he was able to creatively use his legs as well...

It would be nice if they actually did "Get Rocked" anymore...

Always been a big DL fan, however, I agree that the stuff beyond Hysteria has been blah...if they put out something that throws back to "High and Dry" and "Pyromania" it would be amazing, however, as gbranton says, it's good to temper my expectations...

It's possible, maybe they need to bring back their old synth player from "Pyromania", Booker T. Boffin, who also had some hit songs under another name.......
