Half those bands aren't even remotely from LA. Neil Young's Canadian, for fucks sake. And Metallica was from San Francisco, last time I checked.
The original Crazy Horse was an LA band that was together years before Neil Young showed up. Danny Whitten was the group's leader, and the group was co-opted by Young for his Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere album.

Zappa's original band. I'd say they certainly belong on the list, but #1? Ridiculous.
Only three possible contenders for the #1 spot: Van HALEN, The Beach Boys, and The Doors. And some would disqualify The Beach Boys, because Brian had studio musicians play on the records after 1964 or so. But then so did the Byrds, and even the Monkees are on the list, and they certainly fall into that qualification.

The thing is, when you get down to it, the best LA band of all time was the Wrecking Crew. Hell, they backed up the Byrds, Beach Boys, Monkees, The Mamas & the Papas, The 5th Dimension, Simon & Garfunkel and even Bing Crosby!

Welcome to the 21st century.
It is not illegal to run the script. It is not unethical to run the script.
LA times could have easily put in place almost any sort of blocker.
They want the story of OMG "they" used scripts!
LA times is trying to catch the wave.
It is pretty easy.
Show em it's an Army.
