Well, if it's a bunch of guitar snobs doing the voting, maybe it's a protest against the fact that the first two singles from 1984 were synth pop tunes. It's easily the least guitar-oriented album of the 6 pack.
Still better than Stryper's first album though, which only had 6 songs on it, for fuck's sake. Good record for the time, I still have it. But it's not as worn out as my copy of 1984.

It's funny how Rolling Stone seemed to be in bed with VH when Sammy was fronting the band. If i am remembering correctly they were hard on Dave's solo work as well. Now VH seem to be an afterthought. Did Dave fuck the wrong wife or what?

I voted for 1984 just now. But to be totally honest, as far as guitar only my heart was saying Defenders Of The Faith. I had just gotten my first guitar and that was such an epic album to try & learn all the superb opening riffs. I finally bought the tablature book and wore the fuck out of the pages. That album was tailor made for the young kid learning guitar. 1984 was really complex stuff that was hard to pick up on....except the slow part of Panama (still my fav VH part ever).
