I've had leg cramps that hurt worse than busting a bone. I got a cramp in the arch of my foot swimming one time. That fucking hurt like hell. I'm a big believer in stretching out really well and then warming up and warming down. You avoid a lot of injury. I used to race super G and downhill and I damn well made sure I was all stretched out before a race and even practice. Your legs start to burn like hell like you are doing squats in the gym and if your wreck you may avoid pulling or breaking something.

The room was probably cold and he came in all heated from playing tennis and then sat down. Temperature changes really can fuck you up. Go do a heavy workout outside on a hot day and then go into a very cold air conditioned building. I used to date a forward on the girls basketball team.
