    Youtube Guitarists

I am sick of these youtube guitarists who take the time out of our busy lives to record themselves playing the songs we like THE WRONG WAY.

I mean, some of them are pretty good, and that is the reason I personally look for certain guitar and/or drum covers, but more often than not, there's some video of some idiot twerp with the dexterity of a banana and the grace of a burst sausage murdering a fucking song and sticking it out for the whole painful 3 to 5 minutes.

That shit pisses me off, but do I stop there? no; fuck no. I read the mother fucking comments!

    "Great job!"

    "You kick ass!"

    BULLSHIT.

You motherfuckers are the reason failure is not simply tolerated, but REWARDED. STOP REWARDING FAILURE!

The idiot sucked, the song sucked, his playing sucked, his cameraphone with its overdriven microphone sucked, and YOU SUCK.

    Exhibit A: UTTER FAILURE

    Exhibit B: The correct way

The first video we all know...

The second one while not having the best speaking ability, got the parts right, and even explained the tuning which needs to be adjusted to make up for the temperment of the guitar fretboard.. which the PROFESSIONAL IDIOT in Ex A failed to grasp.

And now the reason why I posted this fucking insipid thread:

If you can survive long enough to get to the first "solo".. you'll soon (if you don't already) understand why youtube guitarists need to be dealt with! And by dealt with I mean public fucking humiliations, "Monday night rehabilitation" style.

This is yet another part of my day that drives me bat-shit bonkers. Most of us have what, between 6 & 12 minutes throughout the workday to click over to Youtube, type in "Van Halen uploaded this week" and get rewarded with a buttload of clips featuring some nitwit in his living room or sitting on his bed torturing a guitar with his own particular variation on a VH tune. Look, I have no issue at all with artists working through their interpretations of other people's music, yet some of these utter boneheads not only need to be stopped, they also need to have their access to the internet denied.

What was that DLR quote about "Jesus son, what did melody ever do to you?"

Occasionally you have moments of brilliance though, like these two rednecks doing a near perfect reproduction of the Brussels 1973 Live rendition of the Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want".

The thing I notice on those videos, besides their mediocre play, was the amount of equipment they had...

I mean, they've got thousands of clams of guitars and amps there, and they play like THAT ??

Posers with pro gear.. so disappointing. I suppose as long as you're pretending to be a guitarist, you might as well look like one, right? appearance is worth 75% isn't it?

I got some good advice when I was a teenager. My guitar teacher said never have gear better than you can play because it's embarrassing to yourself and offensive to those who should have it but can't afford it.

At least its better than watching some "Guitar Hero" douche show off his phony-ass skills.

Anyway, sometimes you can find some actual talent. Like this drummer for instance:

Every dog has his day... or 5 minutes on youtube it seems.

I don't let any of the trash bother me. For every good player there's 99 mediocre or crappy players out there. That's life in the music world. Always has been.

Never fails you got kids who's parents buy em thousands of dollars worth of top gear or even adults that blew all their money on top gear... not a one of em can play for shit. It's necessary though... it's what keeps Guitar Center and Musician's Friend in business. It's what keeps gear sponsorships a float... it's what enables Eddie Van Halen to offer a signature Wah pedal when you have to work hard to find much of his guitar godliness with a wah in the chain...

Flip side you got some homely kid with an old beat up cheap strat copy about to fall apart in his hands... yet the kid can play the shit out of it and nail tones $5000 promises you from Guitar Center and it's coming out of some old worn out 80's tube combo that the poor kid got for $200.

Bottom line... those that work hard to show off their stuff rarely got much to show musically. Cheap video recording and a free showcase on the net just confirms all the crap out there and gives these fools an outlet. Used to be you'd find these idiots in any garage on any block... now they can bring it globally.

Good players don't chase the lights... the lights find them. Even though I can afford most any gear these days... I'm still happy to be the old kid with an old strat that can hold his own in a decent jam and no interest to go broadcast it... just pull it out of my back pocket when the opportunity to play presents itself.

Yep. I was watching Sports Center during my break the other afternoon, and one of the dumbo ex-jock guys hired to provide "analysis" broke with tradition and offered the generally insightful commentary (regarding the current spate of players that feel obliged to exclaim to anyone within earshot of how wonderful they are) that the truly great players never need to tell you about themselves, they simply allow their actions to be the proof. Which in a nutshell describes the entire problem with Sammy Hagar in the first place.
