Sarge, I shopped all over Kansas city stores and the net and really comparision shopped bang for the buck type of a deal for a DVD VHS duping machine to convert VHS to DVD (don't know why buying the movies on new dvd studio release is better but I am a wierd need to do it myself kind of guy sometimes). The first one I bought broke within a year, purchased locally here in KC,junk. The crutchfield I bought after researching, is a Toshiba and will even boost the quality of my TV show to HD and the movies up to 1080p. My TV isn.t HD but the signal is improved thu HDMI cables.

Anyway these cats at Crutchfield had the best of the best they are kind of pricey but not upper end the gear however is fine quality.

I will list the website and you can view it but I reccomend ordering thier Catalog I get one every couple months and the selection of Theater Systems is wide varries single speakers etc or a complete set up that is upgradable and repairable in the future unlike some systems .

I don't know why I wrote all this crap but I will reccomend this company thru the week or two I spend doing research.

2nd link has a red colored highlite to order a catalog.

                Excellent recommendation from POJO.

Onkyo makes good shit. You also can't go wrong with Denon.

I don't know if you're interested in component based systems, however I have built a very good sounding system by choosing from a bunch of inexpensive but fairly-decent gear for a little bit less than the typical home-theater packages, but IMO it's better for listening to music and I _personally_ just didnt have room for the sub or satellites or a huge budget.

Check out http://newegg.com as they sell quite a lot of A/V gear and most of it is definitely less expensive than the stores.

I've got the following and have been very happy:

Onkyo TX-SR506 - 7.1 channels, HDMI passthrough, 3 in 1 out, 2 digital coax audio 2 optical audio (each one assignable) and a bunch of other shit

Polk Audio Monitor 50 speakers - very good sensitivity (more dB per watt), power handling and average rating, the sound is crisp and has good bass response considering the small drivers - well designed.

                  Pioneer elite center channel speaker.

TV is a rather old samsung 56" dlp so i connect with DVI->hdmi adapter. Plug in a laptop via dvi->hdmi, plug in the blu-ray player and let the receiver do the work. It does have support for an onkyo ipod dock as well.

Of course you can't go wrong with anything by onkyo.. The reason I chose onkyo is in the power. Cheaper systems are rated by how much power it can output during a single frequency (say 1200 hz or something), while better systems tend to be tested throughout the entire frquency range and the power rating is therefore much more accurate. Not only that, but be wary of anything that advertises power output in terms of "peak" - peak is bullshit. If your receiver can sustain at least 75 watts/channel it'll rock - even without separate powered subwoofers.

                  HTH

                    Nice TV choice, Sarge!

Samsung puts out awesome TV's. Mind if I ask what you paid for it?

                      Pojo,
Are those speakers wired or wireless?

I am checking around for Black Friday (no racist, you son's a bitches) deals.

the speakers are wired...which is probably the one beef I have with it...

                        but it's a small beef.

                        My system is awesome...

Lets make this thread about me...j/k...but I have a question with all of the wireless around the world today.. my 13 year old niece leaches her internet off the neighbor.. I don't skype and use road runner for internet (cable)...I mean I always thought hard wired would be the way to go, isn't there a possibility for some interferance with your speakers being wireless..loss of quality..?

I have heard some people yell add Edward Van Halen to plug his guitar back in ( on this board) to get better sound?
My ex boss uses nothing but a wireless flash sync system ( radio) for his camera and lighting photography system but that is only a short pulse, to flip a switch, and sometimes we have issues with interference.

I am assuming you all are talking about wireless speakers system for the home theater I am out of the loop on sending ampified stereo sounds to a speaker system is it really a great idea or just a new toy type of thing or the way all home systems will be in the future...?

I have set up quite a few home theater system, HD tv, laser disk, DVD Audio, connected to 5 other componants etc..wall of sound..? more like wall in the basement of 12 audio and video machines all needing to talk to each other with wire, for friends... I seem to be able to figure out the 50 sets of wires that run from machine to machine, the backs of some of these amplifiers have 50 connection possibilies.. s video HDMI Componant in/ out, HDMI it's nuts back there, I am no raodie wires can be a bitch like a big nasty rats nest..is this going to be a obsolete thing...do I need to come out of the dark ages..I am serious and could use some 411 most of the time I just act like I know everything, I know nothing about wireless home systems..?

I have little or no real time in the wireless world am I a caveman..?

any help welcome..( except take a bath, quit smoking ciggarettes, and start to use splel check)

I bought an Onkyo system earler this Fall. I think it rocks. Here's the link:

I also picked up a Rocketfish Wireless Speaker adapter for $100. It works great and sounds damn good.
