Just had a great conversation with our DDE contact....

Here's how fucking surreal this has been for me... I call her, we're talking for a few minutes, and then she tells me she has to hang up, Dave is calling !! She called back, talked a while more, she's been up all night editing video...

Met both WARF and GreenEyedMurder at the show... Hilarious describing how pumped WARF was !!

The band is still in NYC, although some are leaving today... Dave is leaving tomorrow...

MUCH more video to come... The band had 3 cameras there, they're in the process of converting it all, so get ready for that...

They also taped the soundcheck, and a session at S.I.R. studios.....

That's it for now....

Jesus H. Christ. I must be dreaming. Is this Van Halen we're talking about?

I would be telling that story to my grandkids, Va. It would be passed down from generation to generation.

"I have to hang up, Dave is calling."

A phone call cut short by Diamond David Lee Roth. Damn...

No; it's Van Kick ASS! :D

How cool would it be for them to just start plastering videos and shit like this? Well they had camera's in 2k7/2k8 too and we're still hoping some of that footage might make it to DVD and of course the indications are that it may well happen..

could it be they're gearing up some kick ass content for a REAL website?

Va Beach VH Fan

Don't know about that, but I'd bet that we'll get one of those videos exclusively...

How long they remain exclusive is another issue, but at least it'll be originally....

As soon as I headr they signed with Interscope because of the insistance of Dave, I had a good feeling. Chickenshit can do all the grass roots promotion they want but Jimmy Iovine is no dummy. Billboards in times square for millions to see, a professionally shot live show from a 250 seat venue in NYC.....I have a feeling VH is going to be promoted like a mofo under their new label. It might be just me being optimistic, but Dave finally, once again seems like a full fledged member of the band and that can mean nothing but good things to come. The fact that the venue they chose to play last night has ties to Dave's family proves that he's no longer a silent minority member but rather the rutter of the ship.

I got $100 that says that, just like last tour, NONE of the VIP passes will specifically include a Meet & Greet with the band....

Which is absolute horseshit for the amount of money that those things cost....

I would seriously consider getting one if I got to meet the band, but I'm not shelling out $500 to get some cheap VH swag, eat some chicken wings and drink a couple of beers....

It looks as if the US dates end in time for the main part of summer when all the European festivals kick into high gear. Give it time. I have a strong feeling this tour will be a lot bigger than the dates posted so far. Especially when the album pops out next month & overseas sales are strong.

In spite of this guy's very blatant attempt to get his ASS SUED, the article points up just how fucking special it was that WARF and Greeneyedmurder got into this gig:

"Outside, some fans grumbled it would have been nice if the band had done a second date in the club and let the hoi poloi buy tickets. “Even a lottery would have been better than this,” said one fan, who gave his name only as Tony. Others said they had called everyone they knew in an effort to get on the list, to no avail. Still, they lingered outside in the chill, hoping the band would let a few extra people in, then hung around the back door to hear what they could. “That’s what we do,” said Kimberly Barnhill, 21, an aspiring singer. “We wait in the cold weather for our band.” "

Somebody tell Tony and Kimberly to join the Roth Army!

Yeah, according to Wikipedia (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/James_C._McKinley,_Jr.), this guy is a low class douchenozzle all the way....

On March 8, 2011, The New York Times published an article by McKinley on the brutal rape of an eleven-year-old girl in the East Texas town of Cleveland. The story prompted outrage not only because of the crime involved - a gang rape perpetrated by 18 boys and men - but also because of how McKinley framed the piece. That framing included relying heavily on quotes from individuals who blamed the victim, scant attention to reporting details on the boys and men involved, and an overemphasis on the impoverished environment where the assault occurred.

On March 11, 2011, The New York Times' public editor Artur R. Brisbane wrote that he found that the outrage was understandable. He found that the piece lacked critical balance by relying heavily on quotes from individuals who expressed concern for the perpetrators, as well as detailing the victim's appearance. McKinley and The New York Times, Brisbane determined, created an impression that the victim "had it coming". Brisbane never interviewed McKinley, nor his editors, before writing his column.

On March 29, 2011, the times published a second article by McKinley and Erica Goode that delved more deeply into the criminal backgrounds of many of the alleged rapists as well as the family of the victim. The second article left no doubt the girl was the victim of a horrendous crime.

There was no way to sneak in to see Van Halen on Thursday. Metal barriers had been set up around the front door of Cafe Wha? on Macdougal Street, and a team of bouncers and promoters was checking the driver’s license of everyone in line to make sure they were on a carefully selected list of guests. Several police officers had been assigned by the local precinct to control whatever crowds developed.

VA Beach VH Fan,

Do you know any reason why VH isn't doing any sort of a public release for the new CD? Would they not do some sort of a radio premiere? Cafe Wha was great, but only played to a small audience. I know it created a lot of buzz.. but wouldn't they do something for the public with the release and prior to the tour?

Thanks,

Dennis

Cafe Wha? may have been a "press event", but it succeeded in stirring the VH pot once again....

Reviews of their performance, as well as publicity for the upcoming album release and tour, were all over the music websites and newspaper Entertainment sections....

Not to mention the dozens of videos all over the 'Net....

So in essence, that was certainly for the public....

Now, I agree that I think while their PR machine, while outstanding so far, could be doing even more, in terms of social media....

But right now, they've played their cards pretty fucking well, in my half-assed opinion....

For Christ sakes, don't miss more classes... Absolutely nothing imminent....No to worry, I never go to the first class in a term. All they do is "syllabus, blah, blah, blah". Thankfully all the news broke in the first week of the term. :D Besides, isn't that what work is for (surfing this site?) :beers8:

Rarely do Va and I agree on much of anything past the Steelers, Penguins and Van Halen...

but I agree with him 100%...

They've managed to tight rope the fine line of overboard and underboard...they are swelling the media not with shit they are saying or not saying...

they are swelling the media with their music...and going after the fans, more than anything...

It's pretty brilliant...so either thank VH for their sudden withitness...or ride on over to interscope, knock on their door, and whoever answers...give them a big hug...

It doesn't take much...just an understanding of the social media...

Not to mention the dozens of videos all over the 'Net.... That, I'm sure was intentional...only reason you would allow small cameras in a venue.

Yes, it was probably intentional. But on the other hand, no way in hell could they have stopped people from taking in our phones, or stopped people from filming and snapping pics, especially up front where it was SO packed in tight.

Thanks VA and the folks who responded... appreciate your input. Makes sense. The ONE thing that I do want is for the band to do some interviews. It would be great to hear from them personally, talk about the writing and recording process, what went into getting the songs arranged, etc. Agree?

That's a double-edged sword with this band...that's when the egos start flying...

Who really knows how much they do or don't get along...and the more they talk...the more shit that could hit the fan...

While I agree...I'd love to hear interviews (and I'm sure we'll get bombed with print interviews), I'd rather they keep their pieholes shut, and let the music do the talking...

1 - I WANT TO HEAR/SEE INTERVIEWS! - absolutely

problem - interviewers have a nasty habit of opening old wounds. Old quotes, Sammy, Michael, 1986, 1996, 2000, MTV and Daves cup, Chickenfoot, & on & on & on.....

I don't know if I trust Eddie enough that he is strong enough to handle opened wounds. Guy is a serious grudge holder. Now Dave on the other hand, he is a master wordsmith & spin doctor and can answer any question without really answering it.

It's my understanding that the press rounds for a new record happen a couple of months in advance. If they'd been doing press, pretty sure we'd have picked up on snippets of it now via Blabbermouth or some such site......

I've been hoping maybe there's some of the video from the interviews/war stories of days gone by coming on The Downtown Sessions... Seems 4 acoustic cuts, while stellar no doubt, might be just one possible ingredient on the bonus DVD. Any thoughts?

There were two or three audio clips that were posted at this site, soon after Roth and The DDE video was posted here, before Cafe Wha? gig.

I am not certain, but I bet these audio cuts are from those, Bonus traks.

Exactly... You know they probably HDd those chats, and there has to be way more than a minute about this or 30 seconds about that. I say lay it on us! That would truly be a Deluxe Edition!

I am not so much a nostalgia nut as others, I want the new stuff man..!!!..,but I would buy some of -the vaults- things that is for sure!

Maybe they panned the audience with a camera... and there I was, 15 rows back .. standing all concert long back in 78' with some girl on my shoulders while she showed the band her tits.

I am down for whattever they retail out that is in refference to DLR back up front even, 07 footage. I will have to call it there on my foolish spend thrift ways, more than likely. Releasing vault material is the golden goose around here and with, perhaps any music fan that digs R&R or just digs timeline travel musical retrospectives.

I would *love* to interview them -- and I have a ton of questions to ask, none of which would open old (or new) wounds. As a journalist who's also a fan, that would be awesome.

I guess you're right, new stuff is what we want, but also classic shit wouldn't hurt. I can remeber the first time I saw VH... March 30th 1984, Madison Square Garden, I was 17 years old, best time o' my life! THOSE WERE DAMN GOOD TIMES

Given all the archive releases from other classic rock bands now signed to Universal Music Group labels, I would not at all be surprised if something from the VH vaults sees the light of day in the near future.

Maybe they'll even have a website similar to this one day ------>http://www.stonesarchive.com/

Once I have my pad, pen, and digital voice recorder with me, I'm actually quite the professional.
Back when I was a sportswriter, I got to interview more than a few famous people and I just focused on making sure I did my job and didn't embarrass myself. :D
