Based on the old demos found You Tube, the video clips from Cafe Wha?, and these song titles, I'm gonna claim right here that this will be the best Van Halen CD ever. Even better than VHI. Bold statement I know, but I really believe it.
There I said it.

Here's my logic (or wishfull thinking) for believing this will be the best thing VH has ever done.
1. Many of these songs are taken from old demos so this material will have that classic vibe to them. 2. As apparent on the new Tattoo sample and live video from Cafe Wha?, Wolfie can certainly play bass AND sing back up. Sure I wish Mike was there but the guy isn't a weak link as I would have thought.
3. Ed looks and sounds great! Nuff said.
4. Those song titles, if accurate, sound really cool and totally Classic Van Halen, 100%. Funny, interesting, entertaining, cool, witty...
5. There are 13 songs! This is a big point for me. Just on quantity alone this CD could have more kick ass moments than any single 6 pack CD.

Anyway, I'm just glad that this is happening at all. But the more we learn, the more I think they will knock this one out of the park.

Personally, IMO, Van Halenized versions of both songs would rock like nobody's business. They've got Roth written ALL over 'em and the Preston would be a KILLER showcase for Wolf.

It will easily be better than anything they've released since 1984. And even if the material falls short of the six-pack overall, that's good enough for me. From what we've heard so far, the snippet of Tattoo and the live version of She's The Woman, it could give Diver Down a push......

Guess we will know soon enough, but the Johnny Cash one seems more probable, hell both may be covers. All I know is Feb 12 I am going to get disc either at midnight someplace or 1st thing Tuesday. Hope weather is as perfect as it's been for almost a month, drop the top and drive straight to PCH Driving from Seal Beach to Laguna Beach back and forth until my ears bleed. After that 99.9% chance I ink that Cover! Would do it now just want to see final art in case there is more coolness to add to killer design I plan on having Corey Miller do on way back home.

Since Christmas it's been ALL VH & my Mom is even excited for it as she battles cancer. Last 3 days barely sleep not wanting to miss a thing. Feel I can chill for a few, but Monday will amp up again, in 4 weeks probably just stroke out.....ALL better than could dream & having Dave at the helm seeing them happy in sync makes you wonder. they must know they are about to change the face of music. Not just for us, music as a whole. I really expect year from now they are receiving 1st CVH Grammy for Best Rock Album 'A different kind of Truth' or dare I say Record of the Year????

Stay Frosty is the title that intrigues me most.

First thing that came to mind is the HBO series on Iraq war: Generation Kill.
"After First Recon is assigned the unfamiliar mission of escorting hundreds of civilians fleeing Baghdad, they begin to wonder if their part in the war may be ending. Lt. Col. Ferrando has other plans to get his men back into the battle. " His famous quote; "stay frosty."

VAN HALEN: Bonus DVD Details For Deluxe Edition Of 'A Different Kind Of Truth' Revealed - Jan. 7, 2012
According to MelodicRock.com, the deluxe-edition version of VAN HALEN's much-anticipated new album, "A Different Kind Of Truth", will contain a bonus DVD featuring four brand new acoustic-performance videos titled "The Downtown Sessions" including the songs "Panama", "You And Your Blues", "You Really Got Me" and "Beautiful Girls".

"A Different Kind Of Truth" track listing:

01. Tattoo
02. She's The Woman
03. You and Your Blues
04. China Town
05. Blood and Fire
06. Bullethead
07. As Is
08. Honeybabysweetiedoll
09. The Trouble With Never
10. Outta Space
11. Stay Frosty
12. Big River
13. Beats Workin'

"A Different Kind Of Truth" is now officially confirmed to arrive on February 7 via Interscope.

The first single and music video from "A Different Kind Of Truth", called "Tattoo", will arrive next Tuesday (January 10). A pre-order is available at Amazon.com.

A 30-second audio sample of "Tattoo" is available in the YouTube clip below.

The set will be the group's first all-new collection since "Van Halen 3" was issued 13 years ago, and its first with singer David Lee Roth since "1984".

VAN HALEN returned to the stage for the first time since the end of its 2007/2008 reunion tour on Thursday night (January 5) when the band performed at the tiny Cafe Wha? nightclub in downtown Manhattan.

The setlist for the evening's show stuck to VAN HALEN classics from the six albums of the initial David Lee Roth era, with the exception of a tune called "She's The Woman". That song originally appeared on the 1976 demo, produced by KISS bassist Gene Simmons, that got VAN HALEN their record deal with Warner Bros. It was left off the group's 1978 debut but has been resurrected for the new disc.

The capacity crowd at the 250-person club mostly consisted of press and members of the entertainment industry.

Roth at one point introduced his uncle, 92-year-old Manny Roth, who used to run Cafe Wha? and introduced a young Bob Dylan to the stage decades ago.

At the same time, VAN HALEN released details of its upcoming North American tour, which will kick off on February 18 in Louisville, Kentucky. Tickets for the tour will begin going on sale January 14. KOOL AND THE GANG will open for VAN HALEN on selected tour stops.

Damn cool! But since this is from MR...

They have often sent false rumours, or
news mingled with built-up stuff...

Hard to trust them anymore, and VHND

sources now.

That said, the perspective is great - dunno
which option would be better, this one or a
bonus video of the Cafe Wha gig?
Both, of course, but I'd rather get the latter.

To be honest, I think on this tour we're going to see Wolfgang blow the world away much in the same way we witnessed Ed in '78... there, that's MY prediction! I'm just glad the Wolf-Man seems a lot more confident now at almost age 21 and it's reflected in his stage presence. He was only 16 on the last tour and was quite shy.

I wouldnt say he's as animated and crazy as a young Mike Anthony --- but I did see some shuckin' & jivin' onstage at the Cafe Wha, as well as some grins to the crowd that seemed to say "I'm kicking your ass ---- get ready, because I got more of that to hand out, bitches"

Big River intrigues me. Yes, it could be the Johnny Cash tune, and how great would that be? It could totally work.

Lets watch the hyperbole language when talking about Wolf's playing. The guy is a decent player but he's not setting the world on fire. Its kind of like all the friends I hab in high school who we forced to play bass with us at some point. Eventually we found 1 kid who had some sense of timing and chief changes.
that's Wolf. He doesn't have to be Joe bass player to do what is needed.just know when to go to the next note and try to sing backups.

Sorry man, but Wolf is doing way more than what you're describing. He's much more than a 'serviceable' bass player. He drives and plays with confidence and power. You cannot deny him on the clip of 'She's The Woman' - he just kills it - all the little things.. as good, if not better than bass player.

I was a big critic of Wolf on the last tour. He really impressed me with his Cafe Wha? performance. I'm a bass player so I know what it's like to hold the fort down especially on a song where the bass drives the train like She's The Woman. I was also impressed with his drumming ability on a YouTube video. You can tell his uncle Al trained him because he drums just like Al. The kid also looks like he's been working out. I hate seeing all the fat, sloppy kids we have now and Wolf was one of them. It really looks like he's getting his stuff together and hell having an alcoholic dad that went nuts and a divorce and all that is not easy on kids. I don't care how much money your family has. I give Wolf a thumbs up.

I agree he's not setting the world on fire --- and Wolf is not gonna make people's jaws drop on this tour like Eddie did back in 1978.

However, the Cafe Wha? performace is a HUGE improvement over his sheepish onstage presence on the last tour. He's much more confident and it shows. I hope the new songs showcase his improvement as a musician.

Wolf's growing talent is also a nice way to keep Eddie in check and let him know there is someone else named Van Halen onstage to kick his ass if he gets sloppy.
