900 Dead People May Have Voted In SC

    Columbia, SC

The director of South Carolina's Department of Motor Vehicles has told the State Law Enforcement Division that more than 900 people who were recorded as having voted were actually dead.

DMV Director Kevin Shwedo told legislators about the issue Wednesday as the U.S. Justice Department questions a new state law requiring people to show photographic identification when they vote in person.

In response, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson asked SLED to review the evidence.

"Director Shwedo's research has revealed evidence that over nine hundred deceased people appear to have 'voted' in recent elections in South Carolina," said Wilson in a statement. "This is an alarming number, and clearly necessitates an investigation into potential criminal activity. I have asked SLED Chief Keel to review Director Shwedo's research."

Shwedo analyzed more than 230,000 records on people without state driver's licenses or identification cards. He found state Election Commission data included 30,000 dead people. He said the records involving 900 dead people were turned over to SLED to investigate.

Shwedo said the records also included more than 91,000 people who now appear to live in other states.

When asked, Shwedo did not have the specific dates of the elections the records included.

South Carolina's voter ID law was signed into law last year, and was to have taken effect January 1st. However, last month, the U.S. Justice Department said the law was unconstitutional as currently written.

                    Mormon Baptism for the Dead

Mormonism (or the doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) teaches that baptism by water is a necessary ordinance for people to return to God their Heavenly Father. Mormons assert that the ordinance must be performed in the proper way and with the authority of Christ's priesthood.

Many people have died without receiving a valid baptism, and they cannot undergo this precious ritual as mere spirits. "Because all on the earth do not have the opportunity to accept the gospel during mortality, the Lord has authorized baptisms performed by proxy for the dead. Therefore, those who accept the gospel in the spirit world may qualify for entrance into God's kingdom" (See Guide to the Scriptures). One thing that should be made perfectly clear about Mormon baptisms for the dead is that each deceased soul has the personal choice to accept or reject it. There is nothing in Mormonism that states that the person who is being baptized by proxy must accept this ordinance; he or she is simply given the opportunity to choose.

Baptisms for the dead can only be performed in Mormon temples. Elder Mark E. Petersen explained this requirement: "Always a center of interest is the baptismal font. In each of the temples this font rests upon the backs of twelve stone or bronze oxen, following in this, as in other particulars, the pattern given by the Prophet Joseph Smith as he instituted temple building in his day under the direction of the Lord. Why is there a baptismal font in the temple? Cannot people be baptized anywhere? The living, yes. But the font in the temple is for vicarious baptisms performed in behalf of the dead ("Why Mormons Build Temples," Ensign, Jan. 1972, 42).

This is a practice that has been observed throughout the history of Christ's Church. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:29: "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?" Such rhetorical questions teach much. A just and righteous God would not punish the millions of people who have lived on the earth and never had the opportunity to learn of the gospel and baptism. The Savior Himself declared that He was God of both the living and the dead, 'for all live unto him' (Luke 20:38), showing that He regards them all in the same light.

Mormon Temple BaptismsElder Petersen further explained: "People who die without having been taught the gospel may yet be saved in the presence of God. This is made clear in the scriptures. But how? That is the question. Jesus preached to the dead. The Apostle Peter taught this in his day, saying that after the death of the Savior, and while his body lay in the tomb, the Lord, as a spirit, went to the realm of the dead and there preached to the spirits of the people who previously had lived on the earth. (1 Pet. 3:18–20.) Then he gives us the reason for this preaching: 'For this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.' (1 Pet. 4:6.)." Elder Petersen went on to explain what these passages teach us:

                    (1) Jesus was a Personage of both spirit and flesh, like all of us.

                    (2) When Jesus went to the realm of the dead, he was still himself, an individual, the humble "carpenter from Nazareth," although a spirit divested of his body of flesh and bones which had been crucified.

                    (3) The dead—even those who died in the flood—also were intelligent persons, still individuals, although spirits like Jesus himself.

                    (4) These dead were so much in possession of their reason and their faculties that they could hear the gospel like men in the flesh although they lived in a world of spirits, and they were alive and alert and could use discretion in accepting or rejecting the teachings of Christ.

                    (5) Jesus taught them the gospel, which was their opportunity for salvation.

                    (6) Having heard the gospel, they might accept it or reject it and thus be "judged according to men in the flesh." As they did accept it, they could then "live according to God in the spirit" just as the scripture indicated.

Mormons are therefore very zealous about collecting and submitting the names of their ancestors for this great, saving work. Baptism for the dead in Mormon temples gives those who would have embraced Christ and His Church the opportunity to do so after death. It is a wonderful gift granted by a merciful God.

Election Law Experts Say James O’Keefe Allies Could Face Charges Over Voter Fraud Stunt

                      RYAN J. REILLY JANUARY 11, 2012, 3:05 PM

Update, Jan. 11, 5:00PM: Mark Zuckerman, a federal prosecutor in the New Hampshire U.S. Attorney’s Office, told TPM he recently became aware of the Project Veritas video and was reviewing it but hadn’t formed any opinion on whether it presented an issue.

It was one of the few — if not the only — coordinated efforts to attempt in-person voter fraud, and it was pulled off by affiliates of conservative activist James O’Keefe at polling places in New Hampshire Tuesday night. All of it part of an attempt to prove the need for voter ID laws that voting rights experts say have a unfair impact on minority voters.

Now election law experts tell TPM that O’Keefe’s allies could face criminal charges on both the federal and state level for procuring ballots under false names, and that his undercover sting doesn’t demonstrate a need for voter ID laws at all.

Federal law bans not only the casting of, but the “procurement” of ballots “that are known by the person to be materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent under the laws of the State in which the election is held.”

Hamline University law professor David Schultz told TPM that there’s “no doubt” that O’Keefe’s investigators violated the law.

“In either case, if they were intentionally going in and trying to fraudulently obtain a ballot, they violated the law,” Schultz said. “So right off the bat, what they did violated the law.”

Election law expert Rick Hasen, who writes the Election Law Blog, joked in an email to TPM that O’Keefe’s team should “next show how easy it is to rob a bank with a plastic gun.”

“Who in their right mind would risk a felony conviction for this? And who would be able to do this in large enough numbers to (1) affect the outcome of the election and (2) remain undetected?” Hasen wrote.

Other election experts agreed that the video doesn’t change the substance of the debate over whether the minimal threat of in-person voter fraud is worth the impact that such laws can have on minority and poor voters.

                      Talking Points Memo on Facebook
“The fact that activists can engage in a stunt is not a reason for reform,” Samuel Issacharoff, a professor of constitutional law at New York University Law School, told TPM. “It means nothing. Why would anybody want to do this? It proves that they don’t update their dead voter information as quickly as they might, but so what? To pull this off on a large scale, you’d need coordination, and presumably somebody would have heard about it.”

Someone did, in fact, catch on to the scheme when a man dressed in a suit and tie tried to vote as a dead man known to the poll watcher. The man left before police arrived and said the poll watcher would “soon find out” why he tried to vote under a fake name, the Boston Herald reported Tuesday night.

Henry Brady of the University of California told TPM that O’Keefe’s video showed that what his team did was “possible” but said that was never really a question. He also said that other techniques short of voter ID — like asking voters to sign a roll when they receive their ballot — would stop the type of fraud O’Keefe’s allies were attempting.

“Yes, this shows it’s possible to do what they did but you have to ask yourself… how many illegal immigrants would risk a jail term to vote illegally?” Brady said. “What they didn’t tell us, were they ever stopped and asked what’s going on here.”

John Samples of Cato told TPM that this would be a political issue and that O’Keefe was “pushing on an open door” because voter ID is politically popular. But he questioned whether it was worth the risk for O’Keefe.

“This is illegal, right? This is fraud and you would think he would actually get into trouble for doing this,” Samples told TPM.

Samples said that O’Keefe’s video could have an impact in the political fight over voter ID laws but “in the judicial fights — and the fight amongst wonks — it wouldn’t change much. The big question for policy always was what was the extent of it, and this doesn’t solve that question.”

Late update: Richard Head of the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office issued this statement to TPM: “We became aware of the issue yesterday on election day, and immediately began conducting an investigation. In addition, based upon the information we received yesterday and the information in the video, we’ve initiated a comprehensive review of voting procedures with the Secretary of State.”

Yup. They have a special font in all the temples where they do proxy baptisms for the dead. But then it goes further than that. They have other proxy temple ordinances for the dead including marriages. The question is why? To create an enormous amount of busy work for the church membership. You have to keep the church members constantly busy on church work to take up most their free time and by tying it to their dead relatives you make it personal and special. This is why the Mormon church runs the largest genealogy libraries in the world.

The object of the church is to get all the members to the temple at least once a month and in order to do that you have to go through a series of grilling interviews and pay a large percentage of your income to the church. To twist the knife the church puts a lot of pressure on the members to marry another member in the temple and to go to the family wedding you have to have a temple pass. Anyone in the family that does not have one is barred from the wedding and made to feel like shit.

So the baptisms for the dead and all the dead proxy ordinances and temple weddings are just a really sick money making scheme. I think originally the temple system was just a secret society where the church leaders could practice polygamy in secret. They were doing that shit in secret before it came out openly and since many of the leaders were also free masons they based the LDS temple on the masonic lodge system.

It's all about controlling those under you and getting their money basically using ancestor worship and family ties to do it. Of course because most the world can't go into an LDS temple it makes those who can feel extra special and then you use their stupid egos to exploit them. Perfect.

James O'Keefe needs to be tried under this new fascist "defense act" that just became law. The neocons wanted this shit. Let it be used against their own.

What cracks me up about O Keefe's latest heavily edited misleading propaganda rant is that one of the "dead guys" referenced just died like in mid December.

Does anybody think the Secretary of State in New Hampshire just prints out a whole goddamn database for the whole state the morning of the primary? Odds are these lists were printed and sent to precincts several weeks in advance of the election. Odds are that "Thomas McCarron" or whatever his name was, was actually still alive when the list was printed. And since he died less than two weeks before Christmas, odds are the state hadn't even updated the records anyway. When someone dies, there's a lot of paperwork involved, and the family might not have wanted to even bother over the Holidays.

My grandmother passed away in May of 1996, and she was still mailed a ballot for the November election. If Dole had been any real threat to Clinton, I would have probably voted it. As it happens, the congressional race in this district was so close, that I really should have, since the guy I was campaigning for lost, literally by a handful of votes.

It was an absentee ballot, so the only thing that would have been challenged is the signature. I was never good at forgery.
