I don't really care. Like I said, it may be a technical thing that gives him better fullback. Remember Dave's always calling for more volume in the earphones. It's a decent possibility that all of them are slightly deaf for heaven's sake, and maybe the headset helps him out onstage. And notice he ditched it during "Ice Cream Man". We'll have to ask VA and RD if he put it back on or not. Above all, I want Dave to be comfortable with whatever he uses so we can get the best performance possible.

I have to agree. They will know pretty quickly whether it can work or not up to Dave's expectations. I wouldn't think they would go into it half ass. Nothing they have done thus far has been less than calculated. If Dave is using a headset for the first time in his career, which is something that has to feel unnatural to him, he probably has a good reason. My attitude to the headset thing is that Dave has forgotten more about being a front man of a band than anyone else ever knew.

I'm sure there were plenty of people who questioned every single bit of his thing back in the day be it his jumping around or torn up clothes.

You could write a psychology paper on the upset this headset thing seems to have caused here. It's a common thing to talk about hiding behind a guitar whereby there is a big difference between singing while playing the guitar onstage and just singing. I fucking care for $ 170 bucks !!! He looks lame with his what did you call it ?? Flinging arms ? Grab a mike and sing your ass off !! PERIOD. Head set is stupid !! They sound like shit.

There's no dynamics to them and they tend to sound thin. Anyone that uses them has highly processes vocals. You just can't go wrong with a good ol Shure 58 and that had been Dave's staple mic for years.

Gotta look at it like this: I've paid what? 20 bucks a CD. Played all 6 albums easily over 100 times each. 20 cents for 1/2 an hour. $170 for the show doesn't seem so bad now.
So keep ya fucking headset on Dave. This is possibly the only band I'd happily pay big coin to see. Do whatever the fuck you want - play it Vegas style, skit-skat-bippedy-bop-top-of-the-pops-with-the-beat for 45 minutes, bath your dog Russell, play poker with the 3 Van Halen chaps, show slideshows of medical crap you're interested in, hold your hand out to the crowd and just grin for 15 minutes to kill time, poonce around and do that streamer routine. It's gotta be better than any other band for that price - and I'll sook about them (Def Lep $125, now that was SHIT, headset or not!) Not Van Halen, who have had a steady gig in my ears for years.
