If it smells like anything, it should be mushrooms. Since the source material (mycoprotein) is made from a type of mushroom (no, not THAT kind) as opposed to soy-based like other vegetarian food.

I don't think we have any of those stuff that you have. Our McDonalds isn't that advanced. But I love the ice cream at McDonalds. It's not any fancy ice cream, we don't have that either :D just the soft kind.

But I usually avoid them, and try spending money in small businesses. Especially since I am vegetarian, I don't have that many options there either.

If you like oatmeal, it's really easy to make it yourself. It costs nothing and you know what you put in it. You just buy oats, really cheap. Then you mix 1 dl oats with 2 dl water, add a pinch of salt and put in a microwave for 2 minutes.
When it's done I usually add one banana, some jam and a bit of milk. It's delicious :-)

Umm, I'll be 50 on my next birthday, I've raised a child, I think I know how to make oatmeal ffs.

I work 2 jobs and I'm in university full-time. McD's is for when on the run. I choose the oatmeal because it's healthier.

I don't cook anything in the microwave. I warm stuff up in there, but that's it....and when I make oatmeal, it's steel cut oats cooked the old fashioned way on the stove.

Because the only meat available in Sweden is those Ikea meatballs. And you can only eat those so many times before you never want to see them again.

Well.... that and Lutefisk, of course. But once you know how they make that shit, you'll never eat it again.

Milk's not that good anyways. Even if you find some BGH-free stuff from a grass fed free range cow, it will still give you the shits.

Now cheese and ice cream..... that's what keeps this Devil from considering veganism. Don't eat either one every day (for one thing the ice cream melts far too quickly down here) but it's good to know that it's there when I feel like a pint of Cherry Garcia, or a Bacon Double Cheeseburger (no offense intended to our Kosher friends, but they're just damn good, blasphemously or not)

I respect anyone who can pass up a juicy cheeseburger...I just don't understand it. It's kinda like being at a party and saying, "no thanks, I hate alcohol". Yeah, you might live a little longer by passing it up. But bottom line is this - you're gonna take a dirt nap sooner or later. And when you're dying from cancer wouldn't you rather look back and say, "hell YES, I ate every sumbitchin' piece of food I could grab and I enjoyed the fuck out of it!"? We're all gonna kick off within the next 20 or 30 years so why not enjoy every minute? Denying your body of the amazing goodness that the Good Lord hath provided is kinda like hitting the lottery and still going to work every day. Fuck that

Everyone can say what ever they want to about this short go 'round that we all have. The bottom line is no matter what you do, no matter what you eat, no matter how hard you try to keep the Grim Reaper from knockin' at your door...that sumbitch is gonna eat your ass for breakfast when he's good and damn ready. So I say eat healthy. And drink all the booze you want. And when the time comes....well, don't piss and moan and beg for another shot or a few more days. My uncle was a health food nut from the early 70s on and he died, deader than hell, at the age of 57. From cancer. So I say go out and enjoy the damn hell out of the time you have. And eat all the damn meat you want to. Because, at the most, you're gonna get what? 70 or so years? So what's a couple of years either way. One of my best friends dropped dead this year. Sumbitch died with a cigarette in his hand and didn't even drop his lighter. That's the way to go. And he was happy. 67 years old and kicked off doin' what he loved. Fuck it all. Skippin' out on meat ain't gonna help you live any longer. At the most you'll get maybe, what, 10 years over me? 10 years of starving and wishing you could eat a plate full of catfish, or 10 years of wishing you could have some steak? Fuck that.

I applaud anyone who can deny themselves all the pleasures that this short life offers. But really? All you may wind up with is a few more years than me sucking air before you take the magic carpet ride. So smoke 'em if you got 'em. Enjoy life as much as you can. And when your time comes...ask for a plate of salt and pepper filet of catfish and love the ride out...

I liked them a bit back in the day, but I was more into LAGuns, Cinderella, Tesla and Ratt. I bought The Final Countdown as a new release, though I didn't like the title track as much but I thought it had a few bright spots. I bought the next two albums and liked them much better, then they sort of split up and I didn't hear anything else from them until 2006, when Start From the Dark came out. Since then I have been more into them than ever before and they have become one if my favorite bands. I think the albums they have made since 2006 are far and away the best stuff they have ever done and some of the best music released by ANY band during that time frame. I LOVE their new sound, much harder and more agressive but with strong melodies and some tasty riffs from John Norum.

I have never seen them live, nor have I been to a convention, but I am holding out hope that the current tour will bring them to the States.

I was at the old message board and was disappointed that the band shut it down.

And by the way, I was just picking on you, I am already happily marred to a wonderful, lovely woman. ;););)

I know from the old board that some people were a little down on Secret Society (not when it first came out though), but I LOVED it! It is very different than Last Look At Eden and Bag of Bones (much harder edge), but tracks like Let the Children Play are as good as anything they've done.

I was one of those that don't like Secret Society. But I told that from day one. There are couple of good songs, it was the sound that was mostly my problem. Those songs sound completely different live. It felt like their goal was to sound modern and fresh, no matter what, no matter how badly it sounded as long as it's modern.
But then LLAE came out :D and it was the best album ever!

Never tried sushi. Chinese isn't that good. It's pretty thin and watery. There are some fantastic Thai-places. Thai and Indian are the best.
I like Mexican, I do it sometimes at home. Well, here everybody eats the exactly same version of mexican, wich is: you take minced meat or veggie "meat", stir it with some onion and a bag of Mexican spice-mix. And a lot of chopped tomato. When it's done you serve it with nachos or tortilla. Usually a lot of vegetables like bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, corn. And also salsa and sour cream. Maybe guacamole too.

Yeah, seafood is popular here. Crabs, prawns, tuna, salmon, shrimp. Seafood is really popular in Croatia, but it's different kind. I don't think they eat salmon. They eat fish from Adriatic sea, squid, sardine, etc. Even though it's all seafood, it's totally different thing.

What I was wondering about are fish restaurants - up here in NC and the states around here they're called fish camps and the food is typically breaded and fried. A normal meal would be fried fillet of flounder or catfish or perch, shrimp, etc., hushpuppies, fries and slaw. I was wondering if you guys cooked it up like that too.

From around 1969 until sometime in 1984, we used to go out to the Everglades on Alligator Alley, dragging my father's bass boat around 5 AM on the weekends to catch a month's worth of fish, mostly bass. You'd cut and clean 'em right on the boat, saving the meat in the ice-filled live well. When we'd get home, the majority of it would be frozen for use during the next 3-4 weeks, and we'd take a portion for the evening's dinner. We'd roll the fish in a cornmeal mixture, further using the corn meal to make hush puppies. Both would be fried in hot oil using a deep fryer. It was a win-win situation, and if we had a bountiful catch, we'd share it with our neighbors.

Sadly, the run-off from all of the Big Sugar refineries, government malfeasance and the encroachment by developers have pretty much sent the practice of catching and eating Everglades fish the way of the dinosaur. There is up to 19% mercury to be found in the local fish populace, more than you'd find in a mercury thermometer. So unless you enjoy losing your hair or watching your itching skin fall off, it's a pretty good idea to not eat anything you hook and engage in the catch and release practice.

Yeah, here in NC and the surrounding states seafood restaurants are called Fish Camps and most everything is deep fried. They do offer grilled and broiled as well but almost nobody eats that :)

Ahh, I don't think we have anything like that, but there are a few fish markets that are also restaurants that are very good. I love good seafood so I'm always on the lookout.

That's what I thought - that it's a regional thing in the states "up here" in the South. Well, if you've never had fried salt and pepper fillet of catfish you're missing something good

It's very good. And extremely easy to make, even for a lazy ass like me.
You just take some bell peppers, red or yellow, and split them in half or in fours. Put them on an oven plate, pour some olive oil on them, put salt, pepper and marjoram. Or any other spices that you like. I just went with these 3 today. When it comes to filling I go about 50/50 with feta cheese and philadelphia cheese. It becomes salty and creamy at the same time. Put some on the bell peppers and in the oven for maybe 10 minutes. Not too long, just enough for the cheese to bake and for the bell pepper to lose a bit that liquid.
It's really good. The sweetness of the bell pepper goes so well with the saltieness of the cheese.

Here's a picture :-)
