    The Pretenders

God, I LOVE The Pretenders!! Chrissie Hynde is so amazing. She is my girl crush! She is perfect.
And songs like Kid, Back on the chain gang, Chill factor, My baby, Don't get me wrong, Middle of the road, etc are beyond amazing!! One of my all time favorite bands, if not the favorite.

I would say those songs still hold up. Something real about Chrissie. No gimmicks going there.

And she sings so good. Clean. No Whitney Houston-like whailing.

Pretenders definitely make my Top 10 list of favorite bands.

Even though I was still just a young buck when James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon died, I still remember hearing the news and being really sad.

Always had a lot of respect for Honeyman-Scott for being a self-taught guitarist. He was pretty solid.

"Day After Day" remains my favorite song from them.

Love the early stuff....kinda lost interest after half the original band died and it morphed into "Chrissie Hynde and a rotating cast of studio musicians".

It is worth noting though, that Chrissie (though an Ohio native) was a huge part of the UK punk "explosion" of the mid 70s, was actually an early member of The Damned (though she left the band long before they ever made a record), tried to teach Johnny Rotten how to play guitar, and almost married Sid Vicious to get a green card (or whatever the UK equivalent of that would be) so she could stay in England. Actually, she should have gone through with that last one. It might have kept that dumb junkie bitch Nancy away from him.

                        Now here's an interesting question......

If you crossed Chrissie Hynde with the Sex Pistols, would you get something that sounds like it came out of Phil Spector's studio in 1963??

Oddlly enough, the answer seems to be "Yes".....

Far, far too many awesome tunes to list, yet this ranks as a personal fave. One of the coolest riffs ever. This despite the fact that I (along with roughly 98% of everyone that has ever heard the tune) have absolutely no clue as to what the fuck Chrissie is saying.

I love the original Pretenders. One of the first older bands I got into as a teenager along with VH. The chemistry the original band had was amazing, as was Honeyman-Scott's palette of sound. By the way there's a circulating recording of EVH joining them for an encore in Feb. 1982. DLR and Honeyman-Scott were friends too.

First album is perfection. Second album had a couple weak spots but still a strong album. But where they really shined was their live performances. Just an incredible live band.

This one is my favorite. What a melody, what lyrics, what a song, what a Chrissie!!!
