Congressional Reform Act of 2012

This a repost of the Congressional Reform Act of 2011, which needed to be reposted since it is now 2012 and there has been no action taken to reform.

As a citizen of the United States, I find the actions of career lawmakers reprehensible. I believe in the vision of our founding fathers in creating citizen legislatures. I am asking you to hold our leaders past, present, and future to the same rules and limits that every citizen must follow. While I understand that this causes a hardship on you and your envisioned career, I am only asking you to be the leaders we elected you to be and make hard decisions that benefit our country and the people you represent.

Congressional Reform Act of 2012:

1. Term Limits.
12 years only, one of the possible options below:
A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective the day this is signed into law.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

:gulp:

I agree with everything except the term limits, however I'm almost ready to jump aboard the term limit bandwagon with the current bunch of idiots we have.

It is certainly a better looking deal than what we have now.

Fantastic stuff. Too bad it has 0.0000000% chance of passing.

I don't think people have figured out that asking corrupt people to pass legislation intended to force them to be less corrupt will never work. It takes more than just a bill in congress... it takes a movement.

Something besides the bowel movement we currently have.

I can't believe I just "Thanked" LM for a Kickass post! I agree with everything in it, though. Doc, you're right of course in your post. Those greedy power-hungry bastards in Congress (and I'm talking R's, D's, and I's here) will never go for it.

I think this is the one thing ALL of can agree on.....

The system is broken, and the system has no incentive to fix itself....

:gulp:

Something has to give soon though. We've become a joke.
