Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2012

Fireflies dancing beneath the stars, the last transit of Venus for 105 years and giant swirling galaxies deep in space. The 2012 Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition has produced some awe-inspiring images.

Take a journey through the night sky with two of the nine judges - Chris Lintott who is best known as co-presenter of the BBC's The Sky at Night, and Olivia Johnson from the Royal Observatory Greenwich.

i always think about the ending of Men In Black 1. When it keeps zooming out and our entire galaxy is just in 1 tiny marble in a bag of marbles in a much larger galaxy. I really can see that being like that. Just look at what we see when we zoom in with microscopes. Entire communities of living organisms live just on our own eyelashes.

        We really are insignificant.

Why do you think he's been absent for 2000 years? Maybe he has a magical sleigh like santa claus and can travel galaxy to galaxy with his apostles pulling?. On Peter! On John! And Luke and Mark! Heeyaaa! (cracks whip)

Instead of cookies we lay out a dead sheep, some wine, myrrh, umm.....I never paid much attention in bible class. Most of what I know is of Revelations. And that's only from Iron Maiden songs.

I wonder if Eddies lawyers are suing the church for Frankincense. Isn't that striped incense? Damn I'm rambling all over today. Now I know how Thomes brain feels. I'd like soup for lunch today.

Hell there are at least half a dozen here on Earth over the past 4,000 years, all going by different names.
