    In The Summertime.

I saw something about summer songs in the paper the other day. The writer said "In The Summertime" by Mungo Jerry is his favorite summer song. He went on to add he's surprised David Lee Roth never covered the tune. Good idea. I think he'd do a killer remake. His voice and attitude are perfect for that song.

Yeah, that would be a good one for Dave.

Agree. This reminds me of Keef recognizing his vocal change in his book Life and explaining moving toward ballads and slow groove music rather than force his voice into something that's just not there anymore. I think Dave has a more natural, comfortable sound in his One Piece Thermo-moulded Country Plastic Chair song than on, say, Beats Workin'. A John 5 album of mellow tunes that has been talked about would be a logical step for Dave if/when VH comes to an end. And yes, the Mungo Jerry song is classic!

Sunny Afternoon from The Kinks would also work.

I always thought The Kinks' All Day And All Of The Night would be a cool VH cover - maybe as a B side or something.

....Or, how 'bout this one for Dave, accoustic solo with steel drums, ala, '88 tour.

It may be a little left of center since some of the lyrics could be misconstrude as kinda creepy, but a beautiful song nonetheless.

That's funny...earlier this week I was walking around my end of the machine at work singing the Mungo Jerry tune. I kept changing the words to include rain and clouds though.

How about "Summer Breeze" by Seals & Crofts. I could picture Dave doing a groovy acoustic version of that tune.

I always thought that if Dave sang the first two verses of the song "Girl Watcher" a capella before Ed kicked in with the opening riff of "Beautiful Girls", it would be an awesome Van Halen moment onstage....

Your best Van Halen audiences are at least 50% beautiful females...

That would be cool as shit, but it would require VH to be spontaneous, which has been MIA since about 1984...
