There is a reason I started posting on this board other than being a fan of classic VH with ROTH. That reason is that on a daily basis some Hagar fan is on some board somewhere trying to say that the Hagar era was as big or as "important" historically as the Roth era. In a very recent post EmpyreLounge44 stated that it could be argued that "Right Now" is VH's biggest song or right on par with "Jump". What a crack head. Where in the hell do these people come from. First off the numbers-- JUMP is VH's ONLY GOLD SINGLE EVER. FACT. Secondly does anyone in the real brain functioning world actually believe that Jump isn't VH's biggest single ever? Hell Jump isn't my fave VH song at all, but IT'S BY FAR THEIR BIGGEST SONG EVER AND IT ALWAYS WILL BE. This is important because it goes along with what I've been saying all along (my Roth bros know this already) VHALEN'S legacy is with ROTH. You idiots that love the Hagar era can try and deny it all you want but all you have to do is look at the numbers, turn on classic rock radio, or watch/read an interview with anyone in the music industry to see which VH has historical meaning. AND IT IS NOT THE "DREAMS" lineup. I've never denied that VHagar had success but to say that they were as big or important in any way is just lying. The numbers prove it but more important SO DOES COMMON SENSE. I'll say it till the end ot time, VH's legacy lies with ROTH. Get used to it.

"Right now" had a great video and it won a bunch of awards (back when MTV still loved VH despite spam). That song really didn't get much radio play at all. It was the end of the hair bands and Nirvana was stepping in.

"Jump" on the other hand got more radio play. If you ask any idiot to name one VH song...they'd probably say "JUMP". Hell...my dad is in his early 60's and when "Jump" came out, he loved it. He still does. As a matter of fact, he refers to VH as the "Jump" guys.

Our generation was way more affected by the song "Jump" than "Right now". If you ask me to sing the lyrics to "Right now" I could probably just sing a few, but "Jump".....everyone knows that song.

VH just likes "Right now" better because the brothers (or sisters really) like to pride themselves in the fact that lyrically they moved on with spammy. Whatever!

being the crack head that I am, I will bite into this since I said it in the first place. I wasnt talking about sales or anything like that but I happen to hear Right Now all the time on the radio, at sporting events, all over the place just like I hear Jump. the DLR era sold more yes...im not debating that, the numbers prove that. All I am saying is that you can make an argument that Right Now is as big as Jump was. It did not sell as a single...but sales dont really mean anything or else the Britney/Aguilerra/Timberlake's of the world would be music royalty. But Right Now's staying power has proven to be just as big, if not bigger than Jumps.

Right Now gets as much airplay as Jump. Very funny. Jump is easily the most played VH song ever and to this day is played more across this country than any song VH ever released. The denial of Hagar fans is truly mind blowing.

you can quote all the sales numbers you want, and as I said before...IM NOT TALKING ABOUT SALES. If sales were the issue, I will say again since you are obviously having trouble reading, the Britney/Aguilerra/Timberlake's of the world would be music royalty and the most important ever since their sales are huge. Is that the case? No, so get off your little 34 - 18 kick since I dont really give a shit about it. There is no argument there...sales are sales and its not what I am talking about. Im sticking with what I originally said, you can make an argument that Right Now is as big as a song as Jump was.

well MTV says, now thats gotta be true then. Im not saying that Jump is one of, if not the biggest songs in the VH catalog, Im just saying you can make a case for right now....but Im glad you threw MTV out there but you really should check facts before spouting your mouth off since you are incorrect. Jump is not Top 10, never was...and is not Top 20. Since you didnt look it up, i did for you and even included Rollingstone's list of top videos...

well MTV said...now it has to be true. Is MTV crap or are they now a source...and you really should look up your info as you are WRONG.

This is a countdown that I did not see and I'll take your word that the list is correct (Jump #38; RN #96). On every other countdown I've ever seen (and I've seen a few) Jump was always in the Top 20 and there was one in the mid 90's that had it in the top 10. They re-do these things about every 3 years with different lists. The bottom line is that everything in my post still proves that Jump is a way bigger video historically than Right Now. More popular, more important. Just like the rest of the ROTH era. And anyone who thinks that RIGHT NOW is as big as Jump (video or single) in terms of historical impact, yes you are a DUMBASS. Go up to people on the street and start asking them to name VH songs. I'll bet money if a survey could be done of a few thousand people Jump is going to come up more than ANY other song. Yet stupid people with an agenda try to say different. Van Halen's will always be remembered for what they did with DAVE first, not because he was first, but because they were at their peak in terms of SALES, POPULARITY, & CREATIVITY. All of the numbers and facts point to this. What part don't you idiots understand?

EmpyreLounge44

DUDE, YOU'RE A MORON PLAIN AND SIMPLE. MTV's OWN FUCKING List has Jump WAY FUCKING AHEAD of Right Now. Like I said dipshit, go up to people on the street for the next month, ask them to name VH's biggest hit and most popluar song and video and see what answer you get the most. You just can't stand it (like other Ed/Hagar sheep) because you know everything I'm saying is right and the numbers all point to it. I think MTV knows which video is more popular and has "held up" the most. VH was simply more popular with Dave at the the helm. Their biggest song, video, and albums were with Dave. Their is no debate except from assfucks like you and you're Hagar buddies.

I DEFY you to disprove any of the numbers I've posted about VH's album sales, singles history, or tour numbers. Like I said, MTV changes the top 100 list of videos every 2 to 3 years. HELL I can remember in the 80's when they did it (late 80's) JUMP was #1. Then it fell to the top 10, top 20 for a while and now it's 38 on the century list (which I did not see but will take as the gospel). The big boys of this board, who are you kidding. You're a Hagar ass fuck just like Empyre. If it weren't for me you dipshits would probably be running around saying that Hagar sold more albums with VH than ROTH like those morons over at the links. AND I WAS STILL RIGHT when I made the point that Jump was a bigger video than Right Now. My guess is that you think 5150 "rocks". Everyone here knows who the bigger and more important era of VH was. It's just hacks like you and Empyre that can't admit the truth. ROTH 34 MILLION, hagar 18 million. 5150 sold only half of what 1984 did. Hurts like hell doesn't it.

to give you my 2 cents from outside the us...NO ONE here knows about van hagar or any of the catalogue anymore...but when I was to a beach party (with some flight contest where you had to "fly" from a platform with self constructed vehicels or "planes") and one team played "jump" as their take off melody the audience on the beach (about 14,000) just went nuts and it got the loudest cheer of all songs...says it all for me...

jump (no matter if we like it or not) became the synonym for van halen WORLDWIDE...and there is nothing like worldwide for van hagar...let them go on tour outside the us...they will play for less than 2,000 here in berlin like the day they played with cherone...

On the music channels over here, mostly new bands are played and only the better of 'old school' rock is played. I've seen Jump numerous times on the channels - but not once a Van Hagar song.

One of the Hagar dweebs to show me how they (VH) rivaled ROTH with hard numbers or facts. I have a feeling I'll be waiting forever. Whenever anyone wants me to post the albums sales again or a link to the RIAA site just let me know. I'm enjoying this.

Harumph!!

NOT fair! I LOVE ROTH. I look at Van Hagar as a completely different band. I probably know as much about Van Halen as most of the men here and probably MORE than the female moderators already on staff. (no offense SI and AK you girls ROCK!) On top of that I am on line most of the time and I know how to navigate the board. I'm definitly a drw and I bring up the post count! I say I'd be a great MOD. Hell...On top of that, who else ya gonna get to toss the "It ain't Van halen with OUT DLR" shirt on stage?
