Clippers: Baylor will do whatever it takes to get Kobe

General manager Elgin Baylor discussed the team's significant interest in Lakers free agent shooting guard Kobe Bryant publicly for the first time, suggesting the team would spare no expense in courting the three-time world champion. "As far as Kobe's concerned, let me say this: We're willing to do whatever it takes to get Kobe," he told the Los Angeles Times. The maximum offer Kobe can receive from a team other than the Lakers is $100 million over six years; the Lakers can potentially offer $130 over seven years.

We don't expect Kobe to leave a squad that is clearly doing everything it can to appease him, but if he did walk away, the appeal of staying in Southern California could prove compelling to him. The ideal fantasy situation for Kobe would be to play for the Lakers without Shaquille O'Neal. As a Clipper, he'd share the rock (ever so reluctantly) with Elton Brand and Corey Maggette. As a Laker without Shaq, he'd be a top-five fantasy pick without question.

It's a pipe dream of the Clippers.

With Sterling running that team...they would sign Kobe...and do nothing else...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."
