"A number of Nazi flags erected on lampposts across Carrickfergus have now been taken down after police engaged with local community representatives. The swastika flags were being flown at several locations across the Co Antrim town including Oakfield Drive and Marshallstown Road. PSNI Supterintendent Ryan Henderson said: "Police received a number of calls from members of the public, expressing their distress and concern at the direction of swastika and confederate flags near to a bonfire in Carrickfergus."
He said that police actively engaged with community representatives which led to the removal of most of the flags. He added: "The people of Carrick will be glad to see that these unwelcome symbols were quickly taken down "At this stage, one Confederate flag remains and the community are working hard to have this removed."
