I enjoyed the review , though couldn't stop thinking it was done by the John cusack character in hi fidelity ranting in his store.

At first, I thought this seems like a good movie - more original than the usual comic book nerd shit Hollywood has been chugging out - and then, Adam Sandler? The Jimmy Page actor of all that is shit. Jesus fucking Christ.

Now, reference to the 'The Last Starfighter' that's class.

I saw the preview for Pixels when I went and saw Ted 2. The first twenty or so seconds of the preview gave me a similar reaction, along the lines of this possibly being something I might want to see.

Then I saw it was an Adam Sandler movie with Kevin James, and it was "nope, no fucking way."

Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy and The Wedding Singer were funny. I was amused watching them. Pretty much what you want from a comedy, right? Wouldn't say they were even close to being the best comedies ever made, but then so few are. Went with the missus to see Mr. Deeds when it came out (her suggestion, but I didn't have to be dragged kicking and screaming), and it was just a bad movie. Didn't care for Daddy Day Care, or Anger Management so between those two and Mr. Deeds I was done with Adam Sandler. It was clear for me that his first four movies were the best his own limited abilities had to offer, and he wasn't worth bothering with. Ten years later, the missus insists we go see Jack And Jill. That time, I did make my reservations known that I was opposed to this choice, but would go with an open mind. Even going in expecting a bad movie, Jack And Jill was a dreadful viewing experience. It wasn't even something I could define as a movie, rather a 90 minute non-subliminal series of commercials tied together with lazy, failed attempts at comedy. It was as if Adam Sandler couldn't even execute the bare minimum of setups and punch lines required for a run-of-the-mill comedy. After that, I told the missus I was no longer going to watch any Adam Sandler movies.

Kevin James, unlike Sandler, wasn't even someone I thought was even mildly amusing at one point. The missus used to love watching The King Of Queens. I, despite my aversion to the majority of tv sitcoms produced since 1995, did try and get into The King of Queens. Just couldn't do it. Kevin James just wasn't funny to me. The missus rented Paul Blart: Mall Cop based on her enjoyment of The King Of Queens. Sat through that one. Next to Jack And Jill, Paul Blart: Mall Cop is literally one of the unfunniest comedies I have had the displeasure of viewing. 90 minutes of "fatty fall down and go boom" gags that were as humorless as they were uninteresting. After that, all done with Kevin James forever. Don't give a shit about how great Grownups and Grownups 2 supposedly were, because I'm not wasting my time with Sandler or James.

I'll admit a mild sensation of glee hearing that Pixels, which cost between 80 to 120 million to make between production and advertising, and had an opening weekend of 25 million.

Sadly, Paul Blart 2 seems to have made back its cost on opening weekend, so while Sandler's career may be waning, Kevin James will be around for a little while longer.

In a general way, I'd agree with the rankings, at least in terms of the flicks I actually saw...which was 9 of the 29.

This is the problem people need to stop going to any of them so that his career ends.

The problem with Sandler is everybody keeps misunderestimating him.

I actually went to see this movie tonight. Pre-teen nephew and niece really wanted to see it. It was kinda cornball but not nearly as awful as that review would indicate. Given Sandler's use of Van Halen references in earlier films like "Airheads" and "The Wedding Singer", I was actually surprised he did a whole movie based around 80s video games without a single mention of the biggest band of the decade. (well OK, in the top 5 at least)

Probably would have been a much more enjoyable movie if I had been stoned, but not gonna do that with the kids around!

I think Big Daddy is my favorite of the Sandler flicks. I saw one of his more recent movies a few months back (must have been great because I don't remember what it was) but it had several VH songs in it. Might have been That's My Boy.
