Seems to be good news and bad news coming out of Ohio.....

The good news is that they passed a bill to outlaw gerrymandering of Congressional districts. Sadly it probably doesn't mean they can reverse the last one done after 2010, and give Dennis Kucinich his district again.

The bad news is that the weed legalization bill seems to be failing. There's some speculation that the proposal of limiting the legal weed business to only ten licensed growers for the entire state might have caused even some stoners to vote against it. Even Willie Nelson reportedly spoke out against the law, possibly because he's trying to break into the retail market himself, in states where it is now legal.

Responsible Ohio are really a bunch of crooks and the bill would never survive a constitutional challenge. It was an attempt to monopolize the cannabis industry in the state by Build A Bear founder Jimi Gould who is an epic scumbag.
To give you an idea, one of my portfolio companies is an Ohio based manufacturer in the cannabis industry and was actively against Responsible Ohio. No one wants a deal with that group.

Willy Nelsons company would make money either way in Ohio. It is just state sanctioned organized crime Responsible Ohio. My group was offered one of the sites and we passed after meeting the folks behind it.

I had a feeling it wouldn't pass. Local news doesn't think a legalization bill will pass next year, either.

The casinos passed on their third or fourth try, and that was a monopoly as well. The revenue is not as high as what was projected, but by the time casinos came to Ohio all the surrounding states already had them.

Behind the scenes there has been significant work to create a legislative solution. I believe you will see in mid 2016 a legislative medicinal bill passed to block Responsible Ohio from returning to the ballot. The rec side will come later at the ballot but likely will not be from Responsible Ohio. The degree of corruption associated with the group has unified many of the other factions in the industry which will be good. Soon Ohio will end up being one of the top markets in the country for cannabis, just not this year. Expect their program to look a lot like Maryland's when it is said and done

Not surprised this came up so soon

House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger, a Republican from Southwest Ohio, told reporters Wednesday that Republicans plan to take a "measured and methodical approach" to drafting and passing medical marijuana legislation.
