Dave rocked but man he must be having a blast here in boston cause he looked like he had some Jack before the show. the guy really knows how to party and sure that CBS told him to keep the Jack off stage!!!!!!

the conductor Keith Lockhart sang some of jump with Dave and knew all the words. after an announcer said how did you know all the words and he said "hey, I went to college ya know"

lol

everyone in the audience was singing along with Dave and looked like they were having a blast. I would have gone but the wife would have been pissed if I left her alone with the kids on the 4th. no babysitter.

Dave sounded great and still knows how to put on a show and perform. the wife said he knows how to put on a show!!!!!!!!

they introduced Dave saying "remember 1977 ? , remember Van Halen back then and how they changed the world of rock music ? here he is David Lee Roth"!!!!!!

rocked and was great to see him work!!!!!!

your the best Dave, happy 4th and glad to see you come to Boston, my back yard and I was not there! :(

still it was great to know he was here and on local TV!

BTW: whoever said Dave only sang one song is incorrect. before 10pm when the real show started was an 8pm pre-show if you will. Dave sang Cali Girls then and then after 10pm for the real show he did Jump. he did sing 2 songs. gota watch the whole show guys!

I just saw Jump also. I gotta admit, I have alot of his latest boots, and wasn't expecting much voice wise. I was totally blown away, he really sounded good. It was pretty cool how the crowd wasn't really into it at first, but by the end the place was rockin. His little septor thing during the middle of the song was really good, he had it shined up.

Will California Girls be televised, or was it just for the crowd there?

The future of this site is going to be minus one Joe Thudner, DP.

I suppose you'll try and tell us how this is your site, and how you will start banning people, and how you pay for this site, and that Sarge works for you, etc, etc, blah blah blah.

You just recently changed the spelling in your profile so now "Licensed" is spelled correctly.

You posted that you introduced VH in Pittsburgh for their show, and that it was in the Gazette, you aren't in it. You're under house arrest.

Give up loser. You're embarassing yourself. Get an education.

The thing that was the coolest part of the whole thing was how he really stoked the crowd without even trying very hard. He's just got dat "charazma." Did they televise Cali Gals, or did I just miss it?

Well this wasn't your usual rock concert crowd to say the least. Had it been a DLR concert, then CBS would be out of business from all the FCC fines! LOL :D

Rebel
07-05-2004, 12:35 AM
I hear ya, but that's kinda what I meant. Of course a DLR crowd woulda been into it, but this was a crowd that was just there. Of course they weren't gonna boo him, but I didn't look for them to get into it. But after Dave twirled the baton, and had the conductor sing, and gave high fives to the sailor boys, the crowd seemed to really get into it.

Anybody see the fat guy in the orchestra jumping from his seat?? That was freakin awesome!!

FORD
07-05-2004, 01:21 AM
Just saw Dave' s performance of "Jump"

Completely fucking outstanding. But it even pisses me off more that he's not touring this summer :(

I really had my doubts that he could mix Brian, Ray , and Toshi with a full orchestra, but they pulled that shit off. BTW, who the fuck was playing bass? Is that Todd Jensen again, and what happenned to Lomenzo?

Even with an orchestra - THIS IS ROCK N ROLL, SHEEP!! Harry Smith thought so. The Conductor thought so. That fucking violin player thought so. They're right. You wool covered morons are WRONG! :D

Yeah, I think a lot of classical musicians are put off by the pretentious attitude that many rock musicians adopt. A violinist might have practiced for 8 hours every day since he was 4, but some cocky guy who knows how to play barre chords on a guitar walks around like his shit is just as good. While Eddie is clearly far beyond that stage, he still takes himself way too seriously. On the other hand, the classical guys appreciate a guy like Dave who puts up no pretense of being on their level musically. Dave's out to have a good time and that's that. It's hard not to respect Dave for being Dave.

It was an excellent performance. Dave was on it and all over it. His voice has been on a steady improvement the last 3 years and still going.

Two things that also stood out... Fucking Ray Luzier was pounding the skins like a madman. The thing I enjoy about Ray is he doesn't try to emulate Alex's sound or style much and just fucking rocks it!!!

Brian Young was dead on as well. The boy definately has the fire or at least tapped into the fire of the younger VH vibe. Ed should take note as well... lose the 5150's and go back to the Marshall's. Toshi is an underlooked guitarist... shame they barely even had him in the mix and nothing but a glimpse from the camera. He and Brian together are a force to be reconed with. I hope Lomenzo returns when he gets off tour with Black label society... He's a better bass player than the knucklehead they had sitting in.

Interesting... Van Hagar is opening w/ Jump and Dave pulls it off fantastically on national network tv... there's a ton of irony packed into that scenario... I really wonder if the brothers caught that performance?

10 thumbs up for Dave though!! That's Americana!! True and blue!!

I wasn't sure what to expect, but he did a great job and was classy all the way. Too bad they didn't show California Girls. Jump is not one of my favorite VH songs, but it was a great fit for an orchestra. He looked like he was having fun and the crowd gave him a big hand.

My favorite part was the violinists jumping around, funny as hell!

Oh my goodness! Look what just dripped out of Sammy's shit-stained hole.. Look my little retarded friend, I think you were watching PBS last night and not CBS. The network boasts a huge market share with 18 million viewers and Dave soaked it up with one song. Van Hagar couldn't gather that much attention for a supposed reunion or any of the tour stops. So maybe the next time your knob-gagging on your sheep friends you will think about the fact that without Dave, there would be no Van Halen. In fact, without Dave, there would be no Sam Hagar living off the fame of Dave or what Van Halen used to be. So turn your pop music back on and groove like your wiggling that dick loosely from your puckered ass, and peddle your bullshit someplace else. Too confusing for ya? Just fuck off! :upyours:

Good find, TLR.

An excerpt-

"Any worries that Roth wasn't a good choice were quickly dashed when the ex-Van Halen singer took to the stage. Looking like a middle-aged Rat Packer, he proved to be the consummate showman with versions of ``California Girls'' and ``Jump,'' the latter punctuated with some nifty baton-twirling and choreographed spins."

The Evening Performers

The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra featuring Conductor Keith Lockhart

David Lee Roth - Beginning as the quarterback for legendary bad-boy rock band Van Halen in its heyday, David Lee Roth has grown into a successful solo artist, music video pioneer, best-selling author, and world traveler. Roth’s unique combination of classic pop, stagecraft, burlesque humor, and startling wit has made him one of the most famous — and infamous — names in rock ’n’ roll. Since his 1977 debut, Roth has become one of the most beloved characters in popular music to grace the stage and screen. This year, Roth is celebrating his 25th anniversary since making his album debut.

Hot on the heels of his recent stints as a guest DJ at radio stations across the country and as a frequent guest on the Howard Stern Show, David is starting to flex his thespian chops. His MTV Dave-TV spots paved the way for his recent VH-1 special (David Lee Roth — VH1 Classic 4th of July Christmas Special) and commentator role (The Greatest: 50 Greatest Funny Moments in Music, The Greatest: 40 Greatest Celebrity Feuds, I Love The ’70s: 1970, and others). He recently appeared on HBO’s smash hit The Sopranos as a poker-playing guest of Tony Soprano.

He nailed that fucking song and was able to capture the entire good time essence that made Van Halen great in under five minutes...something the brothers have not been able to do in almost 20 years.

Great energy, some entertaining flourish with the baton work and, most importantly, he did not choke in front of 500,000 people.

What really clicked was his voice: he sounded great! Sure he was a bit rough the first 30 seconds or so but once he hit his stride he owned that fucker lock, stock and 1984 barrel.

Say what you want sheep: David Lee Roth is a great entertainer who once again proved that he is Van Halen! They are a fucking fat parody of themselves without him.

I rarely post (I heard the call in the other thread), but it appears said newspaper has changed it's tune. I read this article and emailed Larry Katz myself (doing my soldier duty) and we had a lengthy discussion about DLR's rap in the media. I asked him why some artists (Patti Labelle, simon & Garfunkel, Bruce) seem to get a free pass and others, like Mr. Roth, get bashed, most of the time below the belt. He claimed the editor came up with the Title and his one slag about his "career being on the decline" was meant playfully. Suck me, it was.

I think the performance was great. First consider how bad it could have been....then how great it was and you'll see he pulled that out by himself. Knowing Eddie was crosstown (their hotels are less than a mile apart, for you conspriracy theorists), he must have seen it and must have been beside himself. In that one song, he exposed his detractors pretty throughly, as even the herald went from bashing him to front page news in less than a week. Eddie and the boys are a great band, minus Hagar, who is a decent 80's solo artist. In this one performance, he was seen by what (optimistically) VH will be seen by in 5 months. Another masterstroke, deal with it.

The EMT thing is pretty funny too. In every article the key word is "certified". Sheep change that to "Career" and run with it.

Dave's hair looked good combed away from his face, color made him look a lot younger.

Had to laugh when the bald fat guy in the orchestra was jumping. Dave was laughing his mouth wide open too.

Said there were 500,000 in the crowd and millions more watching it on tv.

Crowd was getting down to "Jump" also. Dave shook hands with some of the army guys down front didn't he?

I didn't see CA GIRLS...That probably disappointed a lot of people. It was later before news came on I guess.

Mezro...Dave will be back in VH...the new image and improved vocals are one important step towards the inevitable...fuck yeah

Mez, you nailed it Mate !

Dave seems to be on a different trip now. I think he realizes he is in
the final straight, and wants to go out properly, not bitterly. Now seems the time to celebrate what it was all about. If Eddie watched
this and didnt give a fuck, that MoFo doesnt have a heart beatin in his chest...

im wondering what priveliges the mods here have that they cant control the spams on this site. really its out of control and posts like this should be deleted. defending Dave is one thing but having ot be a fulltime job is another.

if this is truly a Van Hagar site than please rename it to Hagar army. if not then please show the Dave fans some respect and start deleting useless posts that Dave fans shouldnt have to resond in defense to.

this is a Dave site mods , lets please clean it up! unless you guys dont have that kind of control and only sarge can do that.

banning and deleting posts must come into effect pronto.

show Dave some respect and clean this site up.

Dave was great and typical of him, he was perfect for the venue. Rock, Vegas, Classical Pops. Doesnt matter. All the worlds a stage for DLR.

And I think he should keep this look. It is totally appropriate for a 50 year old guy.

The Pops celebrate with stars and pipes
By Richard Dyer, Globe Staff | July 6, 2004

Reprinted from late editions of yesterday's Globe

Painted stars were stretched around the base of the Hatch Shell Sunday night. But the stars that mattered were on the stage -- David Lee Roth, Jennifer Holliday, PopSearch 2004 winner Tracy Silva, and, shining brightest of all, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and conductor Keith Lockhart.

Roth, a quarter-century past his first album with Van Halen, held the greatest curiosity value. He's been in the news lately as an EMT trainee and a poker-playing guest of Tony Soprano. How would the bad boy do back on home territory -- Roth spent seven childhood years in Swampscott and Brookline and is a veteran of Esplanade concert audiences -- in the context of the Boston Pops?

He had only two numbers, "California Girls" in the first, locally-televised part, and "Jump" in the national CBS segment, but he had the 450,000-plus members of the crowd on their feet, dancing. He wore black pinstripe pants and a vest and glittery shoes that he might have bought at Liberace's estate sale.

Roth's voice was rough and ready, his energy high, and if he doesn't jump and spin as high as he once did, neither does Mikhail Baryshnikov. He's a showman, and he put on a show, even dueting briefly with Lockhart.

Believe it or not, at the end of "Jump," he grabbed a baton and twirled -- somebody has to on the Fourth of July. You could see the Pops playing, but there was no way to hear it over the pumped amplification of Roth's band.

With the state of the world right now people want entertainment that makes them happy. There is no better band to deliver that vibe to the masses than VH with Dave!

Thanks, Full Bug. That was AWESOME. Ed and Alex are total idiot's for not touring with The Diamond One. The entertainment value this guy possesses is off the charts. At 49 HE STILL KICKS ASS. And as for the Hagar sheep, they can go to hell. Dave's voice sounded pretty sharp to me. If VH doesn't wake up and come to their senses, this time next year they will be playing with Ratt and Dokken on the local club circuits. NO ONE RULE'S THESE STREET'S AT NIGHT BUT DAVE!!!!!! I was going to watch the download from the other forums but it took too long, so I cannot comment as I haven't seen the performance. I did watch the video clips on CBS and think Dave is catering to a different crowd these days. Sure he has the hispanic accent down, but WTF did he say. KMA is what I say about that shit. Must not have been important anyway. Sure, in the vidoes he looked good. I really can't believe how excited you people get over two lousy songs. Yep, thats going out in a blaze of glory....Im hyped.

That Boston Pops performance by Dave was WONDERFUL! Someone else had posted about doubting his performance beforehand because of some bootlegs he had heard recently. I too had the same doubts, but the Diamond One pulled it off ! Showed what a true superstar he really is. What a lowly pig I am to ever have doubted him.... really kind of emtional to watch him perform that well.

Another thing I've learned... don't judge by bootlegs, you are only getting pieces of the total sound. I compared a recent boot of DLR doing Panama against a boot from the current incarnation of VanHagar doing the same song... and Dave (and Brian) blow away Sam and Ed. Seriously.

You can love Van Halen, Van Hagar, Mach III or all of the above. But remember where you are: DLR country. We are hard core Dave fans and we especially hate fucking Sam!

When you are a member here it is to talk about all aspects of Dave and not necessarily to try an win us over on the merits of Van Hagar or Mach III.

Sheep (Van Hagar) fans have a hard time here because they post shit like "Dave sucks/Dave is bald/Dave is gay" and it puts us immediately on the defensive. If somebody shows up in your backyard and starts punking out your "family" you'd react with anger too.

Maybe you should just stay focused on sharing your interest for DLR era VH and leave the Sammy stuff for the links.

I was just happy to see him wearing his gear & looking like he just made the "she's my machine" video from oh, what was it, 12 years ago...that to me just a pleasure he's still so up to date with 2004!

Yes, Roth knows what his fans want to see...and the "singing" of jump, let's face it...Roth naver sang any record...more of a speak along with any song in his career. Go listen!!

Yes...he talks and makes you believe it's singing!

fa-la-la-la-la...la...la...la..la!!!

Starwood

Starwood hosted a 4th party, and we all came in and gathered around to check out Dave. As expected, most thought he would suck. Mostly because they haven't seen him in 20 yrs and they only hear the negative stuff like Vegas, BBQ, intruders, EMT, etc.
EVERYBODY was blown away at his voice, energy, and charisma. I shit you not - people were literally raising their glasses and cheering.
Yup. Dave surprised everybody in my house.
Everybody 'cept Starwood, that is.

that seems to make the most sense. I know I personaly dont care who you like, but I do care about who you bash when you are here. For obvious reasons. I can debate anyone about opinions on Dave and Sammy, I just think its such a waste of good talk, to discuss baldness or weight gains. its immature.

I welcome you to an open and honest discussion anytime about Dave or Sam, but lets keep it real.

To paraphrase Dave, this was "DAMN GOOD." How cool was it to see Dave go down in the front to the audience and sing with the conductor? And bless Dave for doing something a little different with the melody in the verses. Why the hell not?

Dave's performance in Boston was fantastic. With millions of people watching, this will catapult Dave right back into the mainstream public sphere.

This performance will also make it harder for Alex Van Halen, with his ongoing campaign to convince everyone that Dave's not up to it anymore. Millions have seen for themselves that Dave is on top of his game, and many of them will be wondering why he isn't fronting VH this summer.
